interview with Prophets Of The Rising Dead

What is the name of your band? Prophets Of The Rising Dead

Can you briefly introduce your band and who you are? / What was the ambitions of the band when you started? 2006 the eternal destiny (also a name of our songs) decided to bring four guys together. These guys were 14 and from this day on, they spread the disease all over the world. Since 8 years they are on modern paths and they never try to erase their traces of their way to fame and fortune.

Where are all bandmembers from?/Who does what in the band?

We are all from Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany.
Vocals / Guitar – Lucas Klück
Vocals / Bass – Sven Eltner
Guitar – Pascal Bischoff
Drums – Sascha Winkler

Where was your first gig? Our first gig was the birthday party. The father of our old lead singer had his 40.  Birthday. It was the inception of the legend, now known as “Prophets Of The Rising Dead”

Where was the latest gig? On 25. 12. 13 we played our last Gig in the Makonde Club. Every year, there is the Christmas party with some bands of the region and we take part of it for some years.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? We take some minutes to warm up. When everyone is ready, we ask everyone, who’s not in the band, to leave the room. We place our hands on each others, then there comes thunder and lightning from the sky and we know: now we are ready for the stage.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? The lyrics are mostly written by Sven, the bass player and vocalist. Together we develop the songs. In most cases the music comes first.

What are your songs about? We are telling stories with a personal character. Based on the fate of single persons, we try to take a critical sight on the world.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? In 2011 we released “Welcome to the Wasteland”, an EP with four songs. Actually we are working on songs for our upcoming album.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yeah, we actually got three videos (one studio-video, one live-video and one just-music-video) on YouTube. But a very good friend of the band is working on our new video.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We are planning to play some shows in Berlin and our hometown. But we are constantly looking for shows.

Where have you played from then till now? Our shows are mainly take part in eastern Germany (Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden…)

What are the plans for the rest of the year? Working on our songs (what else?) and organizing gigs allover Germany. It’s hard to find the balance between live gigs and band rehearsals. And it’s hard to decide what’s more fun: develop more of our magic or to enchant our fans live.

What are your sources of inspiration? Mostly personal experiences. It’s like you have a strainer in your mind and on the end of the day, you’re emptying it and all the things (sentences, feelings, melodies and so on) will form to an overall picture. But for us, it’s not a picture, it’s music.

What's the first step when making a new song? It’s always the same. Pascal, Lucas or Sven come to a band rehearsal and is telling us about that great riff he has written. And piece by piece the songs comes out. It may be always the same, but that moments of magic, when you feel the potential of a song in these few tones are indescribably beautiful.

Who has the best sense of humor in the band? That’s a very tough question. It depends on the alcohol. Our bass player Sven is called Thomas when he’s gotten some beers, because he’s a completely different person then. He is the most funny guy you can imagine then and he can entertain a whole room of people, just with his monologues.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? That´s very different. Every member has his own taste of music. There are some bands, we´d start to listen together when we´re starting to listen to metal. The old classic Metal bands like Metallica, Slayer or Iron Maiden. Until today, they´re a big influence to our music. But over the years, every one of us had his own favourite genre. Sven is our expert for black metal and other old school stuff. Lucas mainly listens to new school bands like Asking Alexandria, Suicide Silence but he also likes bands like edge of sanity and disillusion. Pascals taste of music is kind of different. He loves classic music like wagner and chopin, but he loves old bands like CCR, Bruce Springsteen or The Smiths. Sascha listens to many different bands like Kvelertak, The Black Dahlia Murder or Steel Panther. The different kind of music, we listen to is the main reason for the big bandwith of our music.

How important are your fans? Fans are important for every band. Period. We love our fans and we love their reactions to our music. It’s some kind of input for the band. It’s our declared goal, that everyone on stage and everyone in front of the stage is having fun. The sweat has to drip from the ceiling, even on Open Airs.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? There was this one guy on a gig. We didn’t know him, but he seems to know us very well. We were standing on the bus, smoke some cigarettes and wait for the show. He was on his way to the Club, stopping at our bus. You should’ve seen his face. It was a mixture of fondness and unbelief. He was just so happy to stand there and have some beer with us. Some minutes later he called all his friends and told them, that he just met Prophets Of The Rising Dead. We had a great time with this guy and he is still one of our biggest fans. But there was also a funny story in Halle. It’s also in Sachsen-Anhalt. After the gig, we asked some fans, where we could get some cold beer and have a good time there. They lead us to a club called “Dark Angel”. We ordered our beer and wondered a little bit about the people there. Mostly 40+, leather… Some minutes later, our guitarist Lucas came back from the toilet, white as chalk, and told us, two leather-gays asked him to join their dark room in the back of the club. We laughed so loud, that the other SM-fans around us looked very confused. But all in all we had a great time there.

What do you feel is the best liveband you've seen? Strange question. Of course, we are the best liveband. Just kidding, we agree with each other, that actually the best liveband is Steel Panther. We love their show and the whole image of the band.

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? The main reason is, never forget why you started to make music! It’s a fucking hard piece of work and you never know, when someone will appreciate it. But enjoy every moment in the rehearsal room and on stage! Have fun and show it to the world. That’s the only thing, your fans will believe in.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence? One of our biggest fans described us as Zombiecore (we like the zombie-image) or Modern Melodic Death Metal.
