interview with Ashes of Her Memory

What´s the name off bands? Ashes of Her Memory

What is your name?/Who plays what?/How old are you? It all came down when Marius Schurmeyer (19) and Stian Blikberg (20) quit their old band and decided to start something new. Marius being the vocalist and Stian, the guitarist. Only a day after that Per-Arne Aadland (19) had his guitar at the ready with Torstein Viksøy (19) on bass and Toril ond drums. We're a group of friends from Norway and most of us met in high school.

What was the plan when you started the band? First of all, we wanted a band were everyone was equal. In our old band we didn't have that luxury. Second, we wanted to play a different genre, wich has changed from when we started this band.

Explain to those who have not heard you, how does your music? Sound? Right now we have different moods when it comes to our music. On one hand, we're heavy and melodic with dark, yet catchy tunes. On the other hand, we also have our fucked up mood. Can't really describe that one though.

Who writes the songs?/Who does the music? All of our music is written and performed by the band. A lot of the music comes from Stian Blikberg, but the rest of the band has a big influence on the songs.

Who has the best humor? We all have the same humor, mostly because we're a group of friends.

Good and bad sides of the band? We're honest. We're ourselves 100% and that's something people will appreciate. But we're kinda lazy and never play concerts.

What you drive for music style?  We're unsure. Some kind of Alternative/Experimental Hardcore

What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Flowers and poop...Mostly

What are your songs about? Everything. We want to tell stories.

Do you own songs or covers? We cover our own songs.

Have you released any album or single? We've released an Ep with five songs on it. That's old now, and we rarely play those songs anymore.

What are they called so, and what years they were released? The ep is called "Reborn" and it came out somewhere in 2012

What do you sell for merchendise gadgets? Nothing right now, but we probably will later on.

How old were you when you started with music? I think all of us have either played an instrument or been interrested in music since we were kids.

When did you decide to focus on the music? Not all of us are focusing on music right now. For the time being we have jobs, school or something else to occupy them.

How has your music evolved since you began playing music together? It's matured, really. We've evolved so much the past two years and will probably evolve even more later on. Our music now has more groove and depht, but we've toned down the vocals a bit.

What are your dreams with the band? Being able to live on our music would be the dream, of course.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band? We're not sure how to establish our music and that holds us back. We want to get our music out there and we want people to hear it.

What record do you work with? We're not working with anyone at the moment, if that's what you're asking.

Describe your show, visual and musically Right now, out visuals would only be us and our instruments. We don't have show routines or coreagraphy. We just go up there and have fun. Our music is heavy, and we want the crowd with us.

Who tags you for a show? We're taking contact with others and setting us up ourselves.

What are your two big favorite songs you done?  "Nobody" and "Goodnight Promise" right now, but we're writing new songs at the moment.

What have you participated in the past? Small events with lots of bands, mostly. We've played as support for "Livstid" in a portable art museum called "Luftskipet" (The Airballoon). But our best concert was in Stavanger on something called "Fredagsliven". That was quite something.

Have you had any previous bands? Marius and Stian was in a band called "Dead Company". Torstein was in several bands. "Baby Heartless", "Istårn", "Råthålo" and "Hadens".

What do you do besides the band and the music? Work, school and gaming.

What would you do if the music does not fans? We really don't have so many fans at this moment, but we're very glad for them we have!

How important are your fans? They are really important, we don't have that many fans, but all folks are important for us

What is the funniest thing a fan did for you? Nothing funny really, we've had some Episodes with people we didn't even know, crying for our autograph. It was weird, but a little funny tho

How old were you at your first concert you saw? I don't really now the exact age, but I guess we're all were about 15-16 before we saw a real concert

How old were you at your first gig? We were 15-18 at our first gig.

What is your goal with your music? Be able to live by it. Playin music not only for fun, but also a job.

How old were you when you were on a stage for the first time? 15-18

Besides your music style you play what do you like the music still enjoy listening to? I know Marius listens to alot of different music, all from Justin Bieber too Stevie Wonder, but also others in the band likes genres as jazz, blues

What are you afraid will happen to you in the future? I think we're all very afraid off the band to split,

What is the biggest fear when you go onstage? Before we go on stage, maybe 2-3 minutes before I think we all have that feeling "that we're afraid to fuck up". But when we come on, We have no problems at all

What drives a band that is not very well known and live on it to continue to play? For the fun of it, and the 15 minutes of fame you have afterwards.

Do you always the same songs live or vary it? in the past year we did play many of the same songs at our shows, that's why we took a break from live playing, to work at our new songs

What countries have you played in? we've only played in our home country, Norway

What is your pre-show ritual? We don't have any ritual to be honest.

Best/worst performed gig? the best gig ever was in Stavanger (norway) so much energy from the audience and upon the stage - the worst I think was in a place at our hometown (at ungdomshuset 1880) in Bergen

Where do you sleep when you're going on tour? How many people usually come to your gig? - It depends on where we play, but the most I think was about 200 people.

Where do you plan to play the rest of the year? We have a gig in september at garage in Bergen, in the Emergenza festival

Tell us about your upcoming shows and why we should be there? our upcoming shows are gonna be epic, not only because we are going to play new tracks! and we are really ready to be reborn on stage!

What do you think of that they go to download music from the internet instead of buying records? I hope people are willing to pay for our records, but I can't stop them for downloading our songs. I think real fans will buy them.

What is the first step to a new song? First we have Stian (our lead guitarist) who allways have some riffs in his backpocket, then others in the band just get the feeling about how the song is gonna be.

Have any of you songs published? we published them on the internet, and we have an EP with 5 songs, but not much more than that

What are your web pages? www.myspace.com/ashesofhermemoryy - https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ashes-of-her-Memory/152964821401784?sk=timeline

What are your role models before? I guess we all have different role models, but we all have inspiration from different bands, such as: Metallica, Norma Jean, Asking Alexandria, etc.

What inspires you? any bands or artist we like, Like them I named before.

Is it easier to draw inspiration from older bands than the bands that are active today? I guess for us that are young, it's easier to draw inspiration from active bands

Where is most common that you play? in our hometown, Bergen at local shows.

What are your plans for the future?to finish up our Album, play in other countries maybe, go on a tour.
