interview with Black Svan

What´s the name of your band? Black Svan

What year was the band started? 2009

How was the band formed? Jagger and Keith met while Keith was managing a video game store called Gamestop in our hometown. They naturally started discussing their love of all things Metal. Jagger mentioned that he played guitar and Keith said that he sings, the rest as they say is history. Shortly after Mo joined following a drunken conversation in the local Bar with Jagger. After a couple of lineup changes Kenn and Joey became the rock solid rhythm section that we were looking for.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Basically the main ambition was to write and gig original metal music. Most local bands were either Death Metal or Thrash Metal bands and we wanted to do something different, something more melodic. Recording an album was also an obvious next step.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Rich Ward of Fozzy/Stuck Mojo described us best, “They're a mixture of things, the best bits of Grunge, the best of Southern Rock and also a twist of Metal”. I think that just about covers it!

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? We all listen to a wide variety of music and naturally the different influences have made their way into the music but all with our own little twist. Our songs are about various different things, life and life experiences, death, immortality, revenge and many other things, all set to a heavy groove!

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We are just about to release our debut album titled “16 Minutes” Worldwide via M&O Music. It has been mixed and mastered by Danish Producer Jacob Hansen, who has worked with the likes of Volbeat and Xerath.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? We currently have a trailer for the album on our YouTube channel but soon we shall have a promo video for our song Sickness and hopefully a follow-up shortly after.

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? We previously toured Europe with Fozzy and Stuck Mojo. It was our first introduction to “touring” life and we grabbed it with both hands and ran with it, loving every minute of it. We can’t wait to get back out there and play for some new people.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? The album is scheduled for release in October so we will have a couple of gigs before Christmas in support of that and then hopefully in the New Year we will hit the ground running and get some tours scheduled.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Seeing as all of the modern bands are inspired by the older generation of bands in one way or another, we would have to say both. The likes of StoneSour wouldn’t be heavy without the Metallica influence and likewise Metallica wouldn’t have been as heavy without Black Sabbath.

What would be your dreams for the band? It would be amazing to be headlining World tours and also the bigger Summer festivals such as Download, Wacken and Sonisphere.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Between us we listen to artists as varied as the likes of Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Kerbdog, Pantera,  Slipknot, Carcass, Mastodon, Rush and everywhere in between!

How important are your fans? Obviously fans mean everything to us, without fans we are just five guys in a rehearsal room, playing to ourselves!

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? We just want to get our music out to as wide an audience as possible. If we can see some of the world and make a living while we’re at it, all the better!

Do you have any webpages? Our official website is www.blacksvan.com . We can also be found on www.facebook.com/blacksvan and www.twitter.com/blacksvan

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Work your ass off and never settle or be complacent! Only hard work will breed success. Also enjoy yourself as much as possible.
