interview with Horned Almighty

What´s the name of your band? Horned Almighty

How was the band formed? The band was formed in 2002, by S. and Hellpig who made a demo. Shortly after they got in contact with Harm and he has been beating the drums ever since. After a few lineup changes over the years, Haxen joined the band in 2013.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?

We  all live in Aarhus, Denmark.

S.: Vocals

Hellpig: Guitar

Haxen: Bass

Harm: Drums.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? There were not  many ambitions

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Mix Motorhead, Autopsy and Darkthrone, then put in some  punk and then you will have Horned Almighty.

Where was your first gig? Our first gig was in 2003 at a Metal battle in our hometown. We just wanted to try out a few songs live - We ended up winning the whole thing.

Where was the latest gig? Royal Metal fest also in Aarhus in the spring this year.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Its a joined effort. Hellpig comes up with some great riffs and S. does the lyrics. In the rehearsal room we just make some noise over that.

Who has the best since of humor in the band? None of us!

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? We didn't choose a style. It just evolved that way. It started out more or less like a black metal band with punk influences.

It's all about death and damnation!

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Yes we write our own material, but have done a couple of cover songs - Like the cover of Autopsy`s "Twisted mass of burned decay" on our latest album World of Tombs.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?

We have made 5 albums.

2003: 7" In the year of our horned lord (Ep)

2004: Split Cd/LP with Sargeist

2004: Black Metal Jesus (full)

2006: The Devils Music (full)

2008: Contaminating The Devine (full)

2010: Necro spirituals (full)

2014: World Of Tombs (full)

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes, we have a few. Some live stuff.

What got you started in music? I always wanted to play music and when I was offered to join a band in 1994 I took the offer, and then had to learn how to play the drums pretty fast.

Best/worst gig you've played? The best gig we must have been in Berlin in 2011, when we were on tour with Glorior Belli. I have no clue what the worst gig have been - I must have been drunk.....

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We don't have many gigs planned right now, but we are playing at Atlas, Aarhus, d 29/11-14.

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? I have seen a lot of great bands, but of course some stands out like 1349, Behemoth, Gorgoroth, Black Label Society, but especially Black Sabbath at this year's Grasspop festival  kicked ass!

Is it always the same songs live? No. We have different set lists to every show. We do have a few songs we always play though.

What has been the best/most promising gig so far? Inferno festival, Norway,

What are the plans for the rest of the year? To play the concert in November and then we will see what happens.

How do you get psyched up for a gig?

We shower ourselves in blood from local Christians all in the name of the dark lord!

No, I don't psych myself up before the concerts. I'm just doing some warm-up and trying to relax before going on stage. Of course there is some ritual in putting on the corpse paint, but that's really it.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? It's  definitely easier to be inspired by older bands, which clearly can be heard in our music.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to?

Black, Death, Thrash and Heavy.

Funeral mist, Marduk, Satyricon,Watain, Blood Red Throne, Bolt Thrower, Death, Obituary, Pestilence, Entombed - I could go on.

What do you hold most dear? My family.

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? That some crazy ass psychopath should repeat the Dimebag shooting.

Have you been part of any other projects? I play drums in several bands. I handle the drums in Glorior Belli and also in a Danish death metal act called Drab, which I have played with since 1996.

What would you do if there was no music? I would  make some!

How important are your fans? They are very important.! Without them we wouldn't sell records or have an audience.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? There has been a lot of memorable and funny things, but the biggest gesture must be when a fan got the devil from the cover of the Devils music tattooed on his leg.

How often do you rehearse? Once every week.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? "In torture we trust pt. II" and "Repentance"

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? For us, it's our friendship and passion for music.
