interview with Party Animals

What´s the name of your band? Party Animals. It clearly identify the nature of the band!

How was the band formed? About three years ago all of us had previously our own band in the local scene, so one day we met as friends and we decided to form an 80’s hard rock cover band...

Can you tell about your band? We play our original songs: they reflect the wild personality of the band, a rock’n’roll band who like to party and to be always at the top on stage. We are as brothers and many of our songs are about this lifestyle.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are from Udine and surroundings, in the north-east of Italy. The band is formed by Andreina (voice), Max (guitars), Ile (drums), Gian (bass).

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? The main ambition was to bring our own music to all people who loves rock’n’roll and believe in it.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Our music resumes the 80’s hard rock/glam of bands like Motley Crue or Van Halen with a modern rock style...the most important thing for us is to have fun with the music that we are better: rock’n’roll.

Where was your first gig? It was the end of 2011, in a venue near Udine with Bad Bones (Italian hard rock band). At that time we played mainly covers or some of the original tracks included in our first demo CD.

Where was the latest gig? At the Wild Power Fest, a famous motorcycle rally in the north-east of Italy. It was a great night!

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Usually Max proposes a riff idea with his guitar and then we work on it all together. Andre writes all the lyrics. Sometimes we create a whole song in a single rehearse session!

What genre do you feel you are? We all like rock’n’roll and we play it with the heart.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? The style of the band is “Party like an Animal”, so this is what we talk about in many of our songs. “Whisky Sour” (n.8 track of the new album), for example, talks about our booze-party-nights at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in West Hollywood during our tour in LA on 2012...

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We write our own songs and actually we’re working for new songs for a future new album. But in the early days we started to play as a 80’s hard rock/glam cover band (Motley Crue, Poison, LA Guns, ecc..)

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? On 2012 our first 6 track demo CD “Rock’n’Roll” was released through a self production. Recently we made our debut album “Light A Fan Cool” under the italian label Street Symphonies Records.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes, we have the band channel at this link: http://www.youtube.com/user/PartyAnimalsrockband ; here you can find some live clips taken at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles and some promo clips for the new album.

How old are you? Andre is 27, Max is 40, Ile is 35 and Gian is 27 years old.

What year was the band started? Mid 2011

Best gig you've played? One of the best gigs was the Los Angeles tour of course, the Bikerfest Motorcycle Rally 2012 in Lignano-Italy or the Interstate Studio 270 gig (a concert venue near Udine) with Thundermother from Sweden.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We are working for some gigs around Europe to promote our new CD..we hope to realize it!

Where have you played from then till now? During these 3 years of activity we played lots of concerts. Some of them have been very important for us: we played gigs in venues like Rock’n’Roll Arena (Novara), Interstate Studio 270 (Udine), Whisky A Go Go and Rainbow Bar and Grill (Los Angeles) and we shared the stage with important bands like Tuff (80’s hair metal band from LA), Thundermother, Elvenking, Lost Angels (super band with memebers of bands like Cinderella, Alice Cooper, Slash’s Snakepit, White Lion)

Is it always the same songs live? We mainly play the new songs and our “old” songs included in the first demo CD. We actually like to play some covers of bands like Motley Crue or Hardcore Superstar.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? To promote the new album with gigs in some Europe countries and, if possible, to come back in the USA. We are working hard on it! New stuff for a next new album is growing..

Where do you usually play? We usually play in local concert venues or rock pubs and in the spring/summer there are lots of oper air rock music festivals and motorcycle rallies.

How do you get psyched up for a gig? Lots of beer before the gig! No, I’m kidding...I think the best way to be psyched up for a gig is to believe in rock’n’roll and to transform this one in music. It’s a way of life.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? I think it can give you an idea of what genre of music you prefer to play...we prefer to mix some of old with some of new rock music. In other words, we try to be a modern band without forgetting the origins of the big past bands.

What's the first step when making a new song? Usually we don’t have schemes. All songs born spontaneously during a session and after we decide if the new song could be a power rock song or a ballad...

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? In this modern years we see that artists and bands live mainly thanks to concerts, merchandising or sponsors, not with their records sales. Music must be accessible to all people but the effort to record a new album must be repaid for all artists.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Rock and metal bands, of course! Andreina sings also in another band called Ravenouse who plays Modern Metal music.

What do you hold most dear? The main thing we hold most dear are the efforts we have made to get to record our first 10 tracks album. We are very pleased.

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Fears? Maybe a guitar or bass string that breaks during a song or an illness of a band member!

Have you been part of any other projects? Actually Andreina is a singer of another metal band called Ravenouse and Max plays in an AC/DC tribute band with Chris Slade (original AC/DC past drummer).

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Max and Ile work in a rock irish pub in Udine called Black Stuff, Andreina works in a mall and Gian is a radiology technician in the hospital in Udine.

How important are your fans? Fans are very important for us and we thank them always because they are our energy recharge with their love and friendship.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? We have a fan/friend called Emil. He created a “Light A Fan Cool” luminous signboard for our concerts and for...drive his personal truck for going to work! During our last gig a the Wild Power Fest all fans wore a “Party Family” t-shirt...it was great.

How often do you rehearse? Due to the work of each one of us sometimes difficulties arise but normally during the week we spend many hours for the band.

Where do you rehearse? In the rehearsal room of our friend Cristian Tavano from FAKE IDOLS, a new good modern metal band  (he played as guest at the title track of “Light A Fan Cool”).

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Damned Road and Whisky Sour.

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? Only two thing: rock’n’roll and passion for music drive us. When we stop believing in them the band will end.

Do you have any webpages?

Yeah, go visit https://www.facebook.com/PartyAnimalsrock or https://twitter.com/PartyAnimalsIT or http://partyanimalsrock.wix.com/party-animals

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? We would not be trivial but it’s the only truth to keep rock’n’roll alive and well: don’t stop believing in music you to play in your band!

Describe your show, visually and musically Energy and fun on stage, with 80’s-like poses of band members with a little bit of irony and high volume during all show time!

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Working out of the band, unfortunately in the first place. The jobs of each one of us is often an obstacle for rehearse and for spend time on the band...

Tell us about upcomming gigs and why we should be at them? We will surely play in some local open air music festivals during this summer. Be there and you will have fun to see us on stage and genuine 80’s nostalgia!

How would you describe your sound in one sentence Take the wildest 80’s glam metal sound and mix it with a very loud modern rock style, with full of melody refrains.

What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? Probably when the first singer Sabrina left the band: there were many misunderstandings with her and with the band, but now it’s ok with her.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? Some minutes before we stay together in the backstage and we encourage each other. Holy moments.
