What´s the name of your band? HAELM. Our website is www.haelm.net
How was the band formed? We first came together in 2006 as three musicians with the common goal of combining a variety of influences to create our own style of black metal.
Can you tell about your band? We formed in 2006, released our debut album "Nos Es Bellum" in 2008 and played several shows. Our second album was recorded in 2009 and was never officially released, but is available for free at our website www.haelm.net. We took a few years off, resumed writing in late 2013, and
have now recorded our debut for Winterrealm Records, which will be available November 26 2014.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are based out of Waukesha, WI, USA. Band members are Xandregg - vocals, Wyvernus - guitar/bass,
and Yorsh - drums.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? We blend elements of black, death, and swedish metal. Lots of blast, solid song structures, sometimes melodic, sometimes discordant...a few odd time signatures here and there. We like to keep a solid foundation
true to black metal, but present it in our own unique way.
Where was your first gig? Our first show was in the summer of 2007 at the "Black Metal BBQ" at Club Anything in Milwaukee, WI.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? We play originals exclusively, and the band's three members contribute an equal third in the songwriting. Xandregg writes the lyrics.
What genre do you feel you are? Black metal.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? It plays to our strengths as musicians and allows us to speak with one combined voice. Each of our songs have a unique concept, but themes of war and conflict have been a common source of inspiration both lyrically and musically.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Yes, we play only originals.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?
Nos Es Bellum - 2008; Lord of Infestations - 2009; and our new self-titled release which comes out
on November 26 2014. Our first two albums are both available free at www.haelm.net
Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes...we have 6 live songs from 2009 and an interview from earlier this year which includes a performance of one of our new tracks. Visit www.haelm.net for our YouTube link.
What are the plans for the rest of the year? Our new album is set for worldwide release on November 26 2014.
What's the first step when making a new song? We generally start with guitars to establish the melody, then drums to set the pace and direction of
the song, and then the vocals to flesh out the song's character.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Anything and everything that is good. From Voivod to Genesis to Immortal...the list could go on
forever.
