interview with Herrschaft

What´s the name of your band? Herrschaft

How was the band formed? We met each other for the first time just to start that band.

Can you tell about your band? It is an Electro-Metal experiment

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We're all from Paris. We now are doing almost everything with my best mate MaX : music, lyrics, production, performances...

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? There was a really few bands playing the music we liked. So we decided to make our own to create and play what we truly loved. And wanted to hear.

Where was your first gig? In Paris, in a lust party in a really small club. Great memories there.

Where was the latest gig? Still in Paris, but in a much bigger club, in front of 500 peoples, even greater memories (laugh)

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? We write all music and lyrics with MaX now.

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? The only bad thing is that the mix between organic and electronic music is expensive (to bring on stage, to produce in studio...) but everything else is good.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? We used to write about mankind, and more recently about the journey of a man during drug and alcohol trips.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Mainly new material, dude. And some very few times we do remixes.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We made 1 EP, 2 full length albums and 1 remixes album.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Not really.

How old are you?/What got you started in music? I'm 29 and I started music because I wanted to rock out.

At what age did you start playing? I started Herrschaft when I was 18, I guess.

How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? Pretty much the same with Herrschaft

What year was the band started? 2004

Best/worst gig you've played? The best is the last one. It is always the last one (laugh). The worst, I could say the first one, but it is not fair. The worst is more than one during a tour, where our singer drank too much and fell into the drumkit during the first song. Really funny now but not at the moment.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We'll play in Belgium at the Coalescaremonium goth fest. You really should check it out.

Where have you played from then till now? All over France.

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? Rammstein !

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? We had a few small tours. And we're looking further.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? Work on a new album, finish the promo around our last remixes album, and rock out 2015 !

Where do you usually play? Everywhere people need us!

How do you get psyched up for a gig? Lot of sleep, one cig during the intro, and I'm ready to get on stage.

What are your goals with your music? Have fun with my mates.

When did you decide to go all in for the music? I never decided it I guess. The evidence felt before I born ! (laugh)

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? I'm not sure. I really like both older and newer bands. It is not a point for me.

What are your sources of inspiration? Mostly movies. And some illegal stuffs. (laugh)

What's the first step when making a new song? Having words with MaX. Four-letter words if required. (laugh)

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? I'm currently changing my mind on it. Still not sure. It is a pain for artists of course but it avoid every money concept about music and it is maybe a positive point in Art.

What would be your dreams for the band? Never die !

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Less and less metal, more and more evreything else !

What would be your greatest fears for the future? I see electro-metal music coming back with power. I don't want to see go away again.

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Technical difficulties. And you DO have technical difficulties when you run with a big electronic set-up like us.

Have you been part of any other projects? Yep. I play in The CNK (martial music) and Bodie (dark-folk).

Have you been in any other bands? A few others, but no need to talk about.

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Nothing else. I play and record bands and albums in my studio. And it is a professional one. (www.zoe-h.net)

What would you do if there was no music? Sleep more.

How important are your fans? They're the first ones we want to thank.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? They're always full of little attentions. One of them create the first t-shirt, before we were capable of create and sell some ourselves.

How often do you rehearse? Not so much. It is not very unconvenient to often rehearse with our set-up.

Where do you rehearse? In my studio.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Mmmmh, “Endlessly Revolving” and “Rat In Cage”

What do you feel is the best live band you've seen? Probably Rammstein.

Do you have any webpages? Www.h-noise.com

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Trust me, I'm not the good guy to ask for wisdom ! (laugh)

Describe your show, visually and musically. We are sweating a lot because of the energy. And when you are bored of our faces, you can still look at our videoprojections behind us !

How do you view the musicindurty of today? Which one ? There is both, one runned by big company that is currently losing everything it has. And another one that I love, runned by bands themselves, really powerful, growing up fast, they'll win.

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Himself ! Don't be pretentious. There is space for everybody.

What is best/worst with playing the clubs? I love play in club !

Tell us about upcomming gigs and why we should be at them? We are playing some new songs, with a new show and we are angry like never !

How would you describe your sound in one sentence. It is a chemical experiment between riff metal, electronic dancing effect, and industrial spirit.

What is your favorite crappy instrument? Ukulele!

What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? We yell at each other for every new song, dude !

Do you have anythingtoadd? Try everything you can in life, that is the best growing up way of life.
