interview with Melt Down

What´s the name of your band? Melt Down
How was the band formed?

We all played in several bands before.
After quitting our former bands we formed Melt Down in 2013.
Can you tell about your band?
We are from Cologne, Germany and do a mixture of different Metal-styles.
We call it Melodic Metal.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?

Simon: Lead vocals, guitar
Marc: Guitar
Nikko: Backing vocals, bass
Becker: Drums
All from nearer Cologne.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? We want to do great music and impress the people we play in front of.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? JUMP DA FUCK UP!!!
Where was your first gig? Underground Club, Cologne
Where was the latest gig? Cologne Metal Festival
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? We all write the songs, Nikko and Simon are writing the lyrics. Nikko:“Simon's lyrics suck.“
Who has the best since of humor in the band? Becker, because he's always talking.
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? It really makes fun to play live and write songs, but sometimes it's a little difficult to be the same opinion. We are every genre we want, we don't fix on one genre.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? We make this style, because it makes fucking fun. Our songs are about everything we think, see and feel, like „Dying Dreams“ deals with the fucking mainstream world we are living in.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We write own material, sometimes we cover something of Metallica, Ozzy or Beyonce :D
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We will release our first, upcoming record next March.
Do you have any clips on YouTube? We a lot of live stuff and in the future more of our album on www.youtube.com/user/meltdowncologne.
How old are you?/What got you started in music?

Simon (24): when I was six
Marc (23): when I was 13/14
Nikko (22): when I was six
Becker (37): when I was ten (but he's a drummer, he just makes noises :) )

Simon: I started in a band, when I was 13

Best/worst gig you've played?

Best: Local-Heroes-Bergheim November 2013
Worst: Luxor, Cologne 2013 – everything sucked
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? Underground and MTC in Cologne and MEDIO.RHEIN.ERFT again. Hope everywhere we can – also in Sweden.
Where have you played from then till now? Cologne, Aachen, Bottrop, Bochum, Bergheim, Hürth
Witch band is the best you´ve seen?

Simon: Iron Maiden
Marc: Slash
Nikko: I don't fucking know, so many
Becker: Michael Jackson

Is it always the same songs live? No, we switch to give our fans always something new.
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? It was Local-Heroes-Bergheim, after we won our promoter Andy Bob, from Elsdorf signed us.

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? Unfortunately not...
How big crowds do you usually play for? 100-200
What are the plans for the rest of the year? One last show in December and then finishing the record.
Where do you usually play? In different clubs, but we want to play on big festivals, everywhere!
How do you get psyched up for a gig? Do a little workout and beer.
What are your goals with your music? To play on every stage we want in the world.
When did you decide to go all in for the music? When we signed at Bob-Media.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Both, we can't tell. There are so many great old bands, but also so many great modern ones.

What are your sources of inspiration? Some much, everything we hear and see. Sometimes you hear a Pop-Song and think „This could be a great metal arrangement.“
What's the first step when making a new song? Smoke a cigarette.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? It is much easier to get new music with downloading, but it's crappy for all the musicians all over the world.
KEEP BUYING ALBUMS It is so much hard work in it.
What would be your dreams for the band? To play in front the biggest audience ever seen in the world.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to?

Simon: 80's Hardrock, Jazz
Marc: From Metal to electro to hip hop to blues to whatever
Nikko: Everything with Hardcore, same as Marc
Becker: House, Dubstep, 80's Rock
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? No audience and everything does not work, technical problems
What songs and what years were they released? We all wrote our songs in 2013, except „Hurricane“ and „Betrayal“ in 2014
Have you been part of any other projects?
Simon: Drummer in a pop-cover-band, hopefully guitarist in a Iron-Maiden-tribute-band
Marc and Nikko: STPC (Hardcore/Beatdown), Springbreak (Emo/Screamo), Golgatha (Black Metal), We Roam as Caymans (Electrocore), Oxford Addiction Club (J-Rock)
We are open to every style of music :D

They are the most important people to us.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? Broken bones and stagediving.
How often do you rehearse? Two to three times a week.
Where do you rehearse? In our hometown.

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? The music itself.

How do you view the musicindurty of today? It is all the money, like in every other economic business.

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Time

What is best/worst with playing the clubs?
Best: it is small and you have good vibes out there, strong relationship with the people
Worst: often bad organisation

What is your favorite crappy instrument? Banjos and sound bowls

What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? Communication problems while recording etc.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? Chill and do stuff we want.
