interview with Motorgun

What´s the name of your band? Motorgun

How was the band formed? We played together for about 10 years, but always working with other bands doing covers of classic rock. In mid-2013 we started to do some jamming with Bebeto's  guitar riffs and soon turned into songs. From there, we decided that we should record it and carry on as a new band.

Can you tell about your band? It is a band of brothers, since Edinho and I are real brothers and Bebeto is a longtime friend.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are all from Rio de Janeiro and here is where we live. The band is Leo Rodrigues (drums / vocals) Bebeto Daroz (lead vocals / guitar) Edinho (bass).

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Make music that pleases us first, have fun playing, drinking beer and traveling.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Our music is a mix of everything we grew up listening ... classic rock, hard rock, blues, metal, jazz, country ... Some people classify as Stoner Rock.

Where was your first gig? Our first show as Motorgun was at Lapa Irish Pub, here in Rio de Janeiro.

Where was the latest gig? It was at Sebas the Rock Bar in Curitiba, last week.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? We try to do everything together, trying to put the most of the ideas of each member. The songs are usually born in jams and lyrics  are mostly written by Bebeto.

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? The good thing is playing and composing with great friends and great musicians. The bad part is that we can not devote as much time as we would like it.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? Not choose the style, the songs are just born the way they are. Our songs often speak of the road, cars, women, booze and rock n 'roll. This is our universe.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We have our own material which means about 40% of our set list. The rest are covers of bands we like as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Soundgarden and others.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Yes, we did an EP called Heading for Tomorrow.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes, on our Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwG3QbFSrsNWOs3TwWFvDVQ/videos

How old are you?/What got you started in music? I am 37 years old. I think I became interested in music because my father is also a musician and always heard a lot of music at home. When I was a kid I took my father's records and listen and pretending that I was playing guitar or drums. I think it must be a childhood dream.

At what age did you start playing? I started learning guitar at 12 years. With 15 switched to drums.

How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? The first time I went on stage was at age 15.

What year was the band started? Our first show as Motorgun was in January 2014.

Best/worst gig you've played? In all these years we have had many good and bad experiences. Could not elect a worse and better. But I can say that the best ones are always when the audience participates and become in tune with the band. The worst are organized by amateurs or dishonest people.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We often played in local rock circuit here in Rio de Janeiro. But we certainly have a few more shows in Brazil and perhaps Europe and USA.

Is it always the same songs live? We never repeat a set list. Always moved to keep us interested.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? We are writing material for a new album, we intend to make a clip and of course, more shows, more travel and more beer.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? I think that inspiration can come from anywhere. But most often comes from old bands, because that's what we hear most.

What are your sources of inspiration? Whiskey, women, and a whole lotta blues...

What's the first step when making a new song? A good guitar riff.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? I think that is the current reality, we can not change that. We have to offer the music the way that people want to receive it.

How do you view the music industry of today? I see it as an area with many opportunities because it seems that is starting over from scratch.
