interview with Neverstar

What´s the name of your band? Neverstar
How was the band formed? A combination of friends and finding people online.
Can you tell about your band? We formed in 2009, released our album in 2013 and have been playing up and down the UK, loving every minute of it.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? Vega and Pieter are from Pretoria South Africa, Anthony and Steve are both from the UK. Vega is on vocals, Pieter guitar, Anthony on Bass and Steve on drums.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? To create and play good music.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? This is a tough one, but the closest description would be Evanescence meets Godsmack.
Where was your first gig? The Flag in Watford.
Where was the latest gig? We played the Forum in Hitchin last week.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Pieter writes most of the instruments and Vega the lyrics and melodies. We expect that The next album will be more of a full band effort.
Who has the best since of humor in the band? Probably Anthony, but we all enjoy having a good laugh together.
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? We started out as a Symphonic band, and that is where our roots still lie, but we've updated what we do slightly as we've grown musically. Labeling something as bad? We won't go that far, we've learned a lot and just enjoy making music together. The best part is that we're all friends and get along really well, there's a real team thing going on and that's amazing.
Why did you pick that particular style? Growing up with Classical music is probably where our Symphonic influence comes from, Pieter started out as a classical guitarist, I'm a classical pianist, so it kinda made sense from that point of view.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We write our own music.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Yes, we released our debut album I'll be Waiting in April last year.
Do you have any clips on YouTube? We've released two videos to date, Lose Control and Don't Call you can find them both on our channelwww.youtube.com/neverstarmusic
At what age did you start playing? We all started out really young, Anthony perhaps a bit later than the rest, but we were all playing instruments in primary school.
What year was the band started? 2009
Best/worst gig you've played? Best gig, there's been quite a few really good ones so it's hard to choose an ultimate favourite. We also had a few really bad ones especially in the beginning when we just started out, but we won't name and shame.
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We'll be playing The Horn in St Albans in November and then we have a few dates booked for next year in Birmingham and Croydon.
Where have you played from then till now? All over the country, from Birmingham to Southampton and everywhere in between.
Is it always the same songs live? No we change our set depending on the audience and line-up of the night.
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? We supported Canadian band Kobra and The Lotus recently.
How big crowds do you usually play for? It varies quite a bit from venue to venue and city to city. Between 100+ and sometimes down to 30 in a small venue.
What are the plans for the rest of the year? We're hoping to write some new material, that's the priority at the moment.
How do you get psyched up for a gig? We don't have a ritual, just get on stage and have a good time.
What are your goals with your music? Releasing a new album and playing a few tours.
When did you decide to go all in for the music? It's been all in from the start.
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? A combination of both mostly.
What are your sources of inspiration? Other musicians, things that happen in our lives and the audience at gigs.
What's the first step when making a new song? Coming up with a good riff, or a good lyrical hook is usually where it starts
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Albums are better quality than mp3s so buying an album is first choice, but I have a decent selection of music on my iPod that was purchased as downloads.
What would be your dreams for the band? Touring the world and doing what we love.
What do you hold most dear? Playing and making music together.
What would be your greatest fears for the future? Living in fear is not exactly something I do, so none I suppose.
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Again fear is not something I like to do, but we get a little nervous about things like forgetting lyrics, snapping a string, equipment failing the normal stuff.
Have you been part of any other projects? Not formally, Neverstar is my only project. Steve plays in other bands and teaches as well.
Have you been in any other bands? No, but the guys all have.
What would you do if there was no music? That would be very depressing and unimaginable, luckily that's not the case though!
How important are your fans? The most important, without them we can't exist it just wouldn't make sense.
What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? The most memorable are usually when fans travel from far away to come and see us, we always appreciate that.
How often do you rehearse? Together once a week, but we rehearse individually as often as we can.
Where do you rehearse? These days at Powerhouse studios.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Not Over Yet, and The Edge
What do you feel is the best live band you've seen? Nightwish and 36 Crazyfists, they're both amazing
What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? The music itself and being creative with it, not playing and writing will drive me insane.
Do you have any webpages? Yes,www.neverstar.com
Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Practice a lot and be sensible with your time and money
How do you view the musicindurty of today? It's tough, but people are generally really nice and professional. There's ups and downs, but it's all manageable as long as you approach things with your head and not your hart.
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Balancing music and life can be hard
What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? When Leigh Prout left the band, that was very hard. It wasn't on bad terms or that we argued, it was just a sad period.  Other than that I can't think of a time that we've had quarrels as we get along really well.
Do you have anything to add? Yes, come see us live you won't regret it!
