interview with Colossal Corporation

What´s the name of your band? Colossal Corporation (Corp.)

Can you tell about your band? We play hard rock, glam rock, funk, progressive rock ,well anything that rock, there is no particular piece of music we concentrate , but yeah we play exactly what strikes us and make r heart fast…our band is more emotion driven rather then trend.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? Our bands members all hail from Guwahati city in Assam, India.. We have got Farhad doing the vocals, Santu on lead guitars, Ranjan on Bass, Sunny on Drums and me(Sarfaraj) on rhythm guitars and vocals.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Basically we first created this band to have fun! Then we decided why not we share our idea of fun with others? So we set up an acoustic mini group with Farhad, me and Santu on it…..then soon are band turned big after gathering impressive response from the people.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? We do covers …but are originals when you hear let you feel an unique way of story telling.

Where was your first gig? There was one pub named Blues which was also the first music pub in the city..we played there as a three piece band.

Where was the latest gig? Café Hendrix ,Guwahati last week

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Basically the lyrics are written by me. The songs are arranged by me and Santu.

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? We are highly compatible; there is a sense of being in a family, as we look after each other like brothers. Bad I guess we are not that technically profound and are knowledge regarding stage presence and sound has to keep on improving. We feel hard rock and glam rock best suits us.

What are your songs about? Well, we haven’t limited our writing skills with one-dimensional topics. As a matter of fact we take in all topics. However, our favourite genre is story-telling with fictional characters. Our first OC “The adventure of Mike O’ Bryan” tells the story of highly clumsy and absent minded person with whom our fans and every listener can somehow relate with. We have the OC “Questions” that’s about the social and environmental disturbance in our state. Our successful OC “My nights are sleeping” is a love song that has a power ballad feel to it. Our next single will be a wacky one! Watch out for it! We think the people here can be divided into two sections. One that enjoys the music, who scans and identifies the technicalities and musical prowess in a song, while the other who makes an effort to listen to English songs and they are the ones who are critical about the lyrics and the cause.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We do both

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Not till yet. We have released two singles.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes

What are the plans for the rest of the year? We will like to release our albums so we are working on it.

How do you get psyched up for a gig? JUST KEEP THE MUSIC IN OUR HEARTS! THAT’S IT!

What are your goals with your music? Let people enjoy and we merge ourselves with them too

When did you decide to go all in for the music? By the next year , since the inception of our band

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Older bands always!!

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? It’s the adventure of Mike O Bryan and My nights are sleeping

What do you feel is the best live band you've seen? Mr.Big for sure, Bobby Cash to name a few

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? In India its really difficult specially if you don’t play Bollywood… for genuine rock musician its hard as they don’t get that huge fan base and support. I am afraid to say any form independent music is still in the underachieving category.

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Play your heart out, you don’t have to follow any trend. Rock music was always about swimming against the current.

Describe your show, visually and musically Our shows are musically very intense, we don’t really see ourself so visually attractive or even we don’t try to be.

How do you view the music industy of today? On the global market , you can take the example of London and other British cities, it was the mecca of rock n roll once, great legends came out from that country whom we all idolized ,but nowadays the upcoming generation is hardly interested in them, music forms like acid, house ,trance, electronic are taking their places. Our Indian scenario is all dominated by Bollywood which gets the lion share in everything, right from the fans to the money.

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Local support and opportunities

What is best/worst with playing the clubs? Best thing is if you play in the right club with the right audience, worst is that if the audience don’t care a damn!, to sum up everything depends on the audience.

Tell us about upcoming gigs and why we should be at them? If you love great hard rock bands as well the new genre called ROCKGRASS be there at Café Henrix for Colossal Corp!!

How would you describe your sound in one sentence Innovative, as well stricking to the roots with  great vocals!!

What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? When my bandmates don’t come on time for jamming!(hahaha)

Whats your Pre-show ritual? Guitar and Bass tuning!

Do you have anything to add? We shall present u wid one of r songs
