interview with Redeemed Chaos

Have any of you played in other bands? yes, we all came from previous bands area known bands. Bud(Vocals) was in Sinful Bliss and Dendera. Outlaw was in so many in a duration of time, to name a few is Self Hatred, Nihilistic Outlaw: Criminal Order, Dragging Misery... list goes on... haha! CJ(Bassist) was in As The Handsome Die. Rob(Drums) was also in Sinful Bliss(Bud and Rob known each other since high school, formed and ended the band in its duration), Saint Solution. We all were in a friendly supportive scene, regardless of different musical styles, we've shared the stage plenty of times in an amount of 5 years with each other.

How is it that you started playing music? I'm sure just as everyone else, given the tools of heavy metal: tapes, cds, vinyls, videos from parents, older siblings, cousins and such. We all just found our spark in such acts that came in periods of time as we grew up since age 10 and became strongly developing.

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Bud - Vocals - 27(turns 28 in a few weeks), Outlaw - Guitars - 28(oldest), CJ - Bass - 24, Rob - Drums - 28

Have you had other previous members? In the beginning development, we didn't have a bassist, there was a different singer, drummer and a second guitarist. Bud replaced the singer due to work and other distracting things goin on. Rob replaced Nick due to lack of trying to keep his stamina and attention on the music. Cj was rather needed as a bassist than replacing Chas as a second guitarist. We did have Outlaws brother Tim as a second guitarist, he was second guitarist with Outlaw in Self Hatred and bassist in Within This Hour that had broken up and he went back to W.T.H when reunited half a year later. This all being within a year span of Redeemed Chaos' first year, been a strong 4 piece unit, for almost 4 years now.

Did you make music even when you were young? I think we all did experimental writing when we were in our early teens when we first picked up instruments, definitely alot of covering our influences to get the groove in jamming and crafting our ways. We all start somewhere, almost 15-10 years later we know what we love and don't try to be but definitely improving as we go.

Where are you from? All originally from Lubbock TX, Outlaw was born and raised in Lamesa, a very small town but moved to Lubbock after high school graduation.

What year did the band form? October of 2010

What's your style of genre? Thrash Metal as the root of it, we have a deep heaviness that grooves along to it for the most part too. We just simply call it Thrash Groove Metal.

What inspires you? Anything and everything to tell ya the truth... we can't say it comes from one straight source but the 4 of us put all our chips in and make what we love out of it. If it makes us feel good, go for it... if it makes others feel good, great! We know we're not alone in what we feel and what makes us feel good so we share the vibes.

How often and where do you reherse? We can't say we have a definite schedule but we just get together at Robs old job location which used to be an archery shop, It literally looks like a tiny prison compound, haha!... barbed wired fenced in building and parking where no one can harass us but we have throwndown some cool get togethers for sure. Gets the mood up for making awesome jams to say the least.

How have you developed since you started with the music? To be honest, we know we have grown together in writing and its been a good stepping stone into what we wanna do for ourselves and what we do. There's no milestone we set for ourselves but we always do the best we can without stressing ourselves out over making music.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Most of us jam with other projects and bands that aren't like Redeemed Chaos, keeps creativity up and alive so when we come back to Redeemed Chaos time, its definitely fresh and rejuvenated. We all also have personal thrives we attend to as well, most of which i'm sure is to each their own and not needed to know about other than we do have lives away from the band for sure.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We handle most of the business aspect ourselves, unless there was someone out there than can help the band in some areas, mainly with other networks and bigger levels we need to put the band on but we also don't want the band in any areas we don't want it in. We like to keep the band on a personal/with the fans level as much as we can, we love showcasing in front music lovers as much as we can. We don't want to be under someones belt that's gonna use it for their benefit levels than our own. But that doesn't keep us from talking to new people about any ideas that come up

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We are currently with Sik Side Records at the moment, they definitely helped with distributing the band in areas we need to be in to get our music out there, but for the most part we keep the band business to ourselves so its just us the make the final decisions and what we're comfortable with. What we do and how we do it is fine with the guys at Sik Side and if we need any help or advice, we just simply ask and they answer. We both look forward to future releases.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Outlaw and Rob do the basic levels of creating the song, Bud writes the lyrics out himself

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Always start with the music, Bud always has a good turn out on what the mood and writing develops into...

Do you compose in a certain environment? Just the old archery shop set up, nothing crazy.  Just good friends, vibes, maybe some alcohol but nothing out of the ordinary.

Have you done any covers live? We've done quite a bit, crowds favorites have been Motorheads Overkill, Slayer's BloodLine, Motley Crue's Live Wire. We done fun things with White Zombie, Pantera, Deftones, Anthrax, that list goes on...

What language do you sing in? English. Unless Bud brings out the hispanic in him and starts singing in Spanish but we're not stressin it. haha!

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We've seen from just bar staff to a room full of 600 people. All have been different from home to out of town shows.

What ages are most of your concert attendants? For the most part adults due to age restricted bars and venues. We have been fortune to Bud and Outlaws kids attend when they could, they love seeing their dads onstage. We've been in some outdoor festivals where we invite kids to come up and sing some of the easy known lyrics to songs, its a joy and fun when anyone and everyone joins in, makes the show and great show.

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We do have up to 2 albums of writing, and up to 5 revolving covers we always do upon request. We always keep the crowd guessing on what we do and they love to know their personal favorites are being played too.

What was your first gig like? It was fairly decent, we had 3 full songs written and did 2 covers to get people into what we were doing.

What was your latest gig? At Jakes Backroom in Lubbock TX in January 2015, we been on a break to look for studios to start recording our second album which we have fully written.

Have you had to cancel a gig? Sadly yes, usually its weather that gets us in a slump but we do make it out to every gig 100% as possible. even if it is coming straight from a full days work and loading up straight onstage to do soundcheck and set. Its rough but we still do it at times.

Where have you played live this year? So far just Jakes Backroom in Lubbock.

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? Hopefully some really cool shows, we'll just see when they come up.

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We started in 2011 in the bands first year, it started with stickers, then moved up to shirts our album release, posters, coozies, etc... we keep everything fresh and revolving so its not the same old boring stuff. At the moment we have 2 different designed shirts and our album release, until we have funds to create a new product and then we go until it runs out and then think of something new.

Where can people buy your merchandise? They can go to our page and view our merch at Redeemed Chaos or for our album, they can go to download it at CdBaby, ITunes or for the physical copy for our dedicated fans, just message us on facebook.

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? most of us personally are 50/50 about it, we provide both to cover all areas of it being bought. We understand its a new era of holding and purchasing music but you still have the physical copy which is always a great go to source of it all. Authenticity is always the source and way to go for the most part.

What do you think of my work? its great! its always a joy to know there are others out there like ourselves(the fan), keeps everything on a personal level, thats how we like it anyways. Fuck Rockstar attitudes, we love talking to people and music lovers!

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? alot of people out there like more depth and whats goin on with artist, keeps everything goin and to look forward to.

What have been your biggest obstacles? I guess keeping things going forward, people love merch and music, it takes fans to keep that going. The biggest obstacle is to get people to come out and support, stick around for the performing acts, not just us. keeps everything we do and work for a future to rely on and see it grow. we love going out to shows and seeing our favorites and catching new ones too, so we pay cover, buy merch, support the venue by buying their product, we know everyone has priorities as ourselves but when you can make it out, its an awesome feeling and we always enjoy the company! keep it going and alive!

How do you get psyched for a gig? its just seeing and meeting new people, anywhere we've been, we've always look forward to a great time, playing onstage is the plus!

Do you have any new material? At the moment, we don't. Mainly because we are looking forward to recording our second album, but that usually doesn't stop us from writing. we have the songs to our follow up and ready to record them for our Chaos Crew(Redeemed Chaos Fans)

What are your web sites? www.facebook.com/redeemedchaostx Redeemed Chaos | Metal from Lubbock, TX

How can people reach you? We personally run the websites, we always make it accessible for fans and friends to reach us.

What are your plans for the future? Just keep moving forward for sure, there's no end in sight as long as we keep jamming and making music and people keep coming out and supporting us. Thanks to all those that have been there from almost day one, its the endless support we receive that keeps us going. Without them, we wouldn't be pushing ourselves to the standard we go by, if not, we'd just be doin this within the 4 ways we practice in. From The Chaos Boys to the Chaos Crew, Thanks to you, we keep moving and push on!

I will send you a copy of our debut, a signed poster soon! Thanx for the interview Robex!
