interview with MATRICIDE

What´s the name of your band? MATRICIDE
How was the band formed? Matricide was formed in 2004 by Yogev Sitton and Auria Sapir, by then well-known guitar players in the Israeli Metal scene, with the thought of forming some kind of a local super group with members of other active metal groups.

Can you tell about your band? MATRICIDE is an Israeli metal band with a wide range of musical influences. We try to fuse Death Metal aggression, Nu Metal Grooves and Hardcore attitude but without compromising on the melodic side.

Lyrically, our songs focus on the philosophical and spiritual, reflecting the burdens of human existence and our lives in the middle-east.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? MATRICIDE are  Ran Eliahou (vocals), Auria Sapir (guitars), Shahar Guy (bass), Ofir Zigi (drums). Israel is a very small country, and although band members live in different cities, Tel Aviv is our home base.

What were the ambitions of the band when you started? To create the most powerful music that ever came out of Israel
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? We are a Hardcore metal band from the middle-east. The reality here is harsh and it reflects on the aggressiveness of our lyrics and music. Although our music is very intense we are never bound to any one genre, and our influences are from all around the musical
spectrum.

Where was your first gig? MATRICIDE's first gig was in 2004 at Israel's METALIST FESTIVAL, with bands such as BEHEMOTH, ORPHANED LAND, SALEM and other Israeli metal bands.
Where was the latest gig?Our last show was at the GROOVE-FEST, an Israeli metal festival, as part of our tour to promote our latest record – "When Random Turns To Fate".

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? All four members of the band contribute to song-writing, arrangements and production. Each member brings his own influences to the mix.
Our vocalist Ran Eliahou writes all the lyrics.
Who has the best since of humor in the band?We are all very funny, funny people.

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? Death Metal , Post Hardcore, Nu Metal

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? The words of the songs deal with great philosophical and spiritual issues which leads the reader to a mystery journey beyond the immediate materialistic nature of the "normal" stream
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?
In 2008 we released our first EP -  "We Are Alive".
It was recorded in DIY antics, and immediately had a great impact on the local scene, expanding the band's audience inside Israel, and eventually abroad as well. It also received many positive reviews from online magazines from all over the world.
In 2013 the band released it's first LP - "When Random Turns To Fate". With this album we tried exploring new musical and lyrical directions, while staying true to our signature sound and heaviness. Since the album's release we have been touring excessively to promote it, playing many shows in Israel and abroad, leading to "When Random Turns To Fate" receiving rave reviews from international metal press.
