interview with Until We Fall
How was the band formed? The band was originally formed at school by a music teacher. At the time, only Adam (guitar) and James (drums) were in the band and there was a different bassist and singer. The singer left and Laura (current singer) joined. We played like that for a little while and then the bassist we had left and we brought in Matthew (current bassist). We played like that for just over a year until recently when we found Kieran and brought him into play guitar along with Adam.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are all from Newcastle in north east England. Laura does vocals, Adam and Kieran play guitar and switch between who plays lead and who plays rhythm, Matthew play bass and James plays drums.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? It was mainly just for fun as we all enjoyed playing music, and that still kind of is, but if we could have it is more than that, it would be amazing.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? We cover mainly punk rock songs but with a few exceptions, I'm pretty sure our own songs will be like that too when we start writing them
Where was your first gig? At our old high school in a concert there
Where was the latest gig? At Jesmond cricket club, which is a club close to where we all live
Who has the best sense of humor in the band? We all kind of have a similar sense of humour, so im not sure really.
What's good/bad with the band? We are all good friends and have a laugh together, also we enjoy making music together
Why did you pick that particular style? It was a style of music we all enjoyed listening to and it's fun to play, so it seemed the best for us to do
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? All covers at the minute, but we are starting to write our own songs now

How old are you?/What got you started in music? Laura is 17 and got started in music through school mostly and the love grew from there, Adam is 17 and got started in music from his dad who introduced him to it, Matthew is 17 and also got started in music from him dad who introduced him to it. Kieran is 17 and James is 14
At what age did you start playing? Laura 7, Matthew 6, Adam 7
How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? Adam 8, Matthew 9, Laura 8, Kieran 13
What year was the band started? 2013
Best/worst gig you've played? Best was the most recent one, worst was probably one in June because there wasn't many people there
What places will you be playing in in the immediate future? We have no where planned at the minute
Where haveyou played from then till now? Old high school, Linskill centre, Jesmond cricket club
Which band is the best you've seen? Laura: Avenged sevenfold or All time low, both were amazing in different ways. Matthew: Busted. Adam: Avenged Sevenfold, Aerosmith and Guns N’ Roses
Is it always the same songs live? We have a few we play every time, but we try to add new ones in when we can
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? The last one we played, everyone seemed to enjoy it
Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? Sadly not, hopefully one day though!
How big crowds do you usually play for? Anything between 20 people and just over a couple hundred people
What are the plans for the rest of the year? Hopefully write some of our own songs and work on our music as much as possible
Where do you usually play? Different places, we don’t really have a usual place
What are your goals with your music? To perform it live and the crowd to sing the lyrics back at us
When did you decide to go all in for the music? At this point in time, we haven’t yet, we know its hard to get into the music industry so right now we are working on getting exams done so we have backup plans if it all fails
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Its easier to get inspiration from modern but that doesn’t mean getting inspiration from both isn’t good, just modern bands know what its like in the industry right now. But getting inspiration from both I think is the best way to go.
What are your sources of inspiration? We all have different sources of inspiration, Laura- bands such as all time low, pierce the veil, tonight alive, we are the in crowd Matthew- from my friends, Adam- gathering ideas from other artists in the same genre
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? We all have different opinions on it, some of us think it's okay and it's mainly about the music, others do it because it's free and music costs a lot, so without it we couldn't not listen to a the music which inspires us, others think it's wrong because artists work so hard in their music to just have it taken for free, but thanks to the price of music, there is nothing we can do about it.
What would be your dreams for the band? To have a crowd of fans singing our songs back at us and loving what we do
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? We listen to a range of genres from pop music which is in the charts to drum and base and metal, however we all have our own personal favourite genres
What do you hold most dear? Our instruments probably
What would be your greatest fears for the future? Our greatest fear is probably failing with what we want to do in life
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Messing up the songs and having people laugh at us, also having to speak on stage to introduce the songs is a big one for Laura.
What songs and what years were they released? At the minute we don’t have any
Have you been in any other bands? Only when we were younger, they didn’t really get very far though
What do you work with outside of the band and the music? We are all either in high school or sixth form studying at the minute
What would you do if there was no music? I don’t quite know how I would survive
How important are your fans? Very important!
How often do you rehearse? Once a week on average, we probably need to practice more though!
Where do you rehearse? At James house, his parents kindly let us use all the equipment and make a lot of noise every week
What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? The thought that one day you may be famous, that’s what keeps us going anyway

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Don't ever give up!
What advice would you like to give other bands? I'm not sure we are really in a place to give any great advice, but I suppose if we have learnt anything it's not to give up and I'm sure we will all get where we want to be eventually.
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Getting noticed by people is probably the brightest obstacle at first and it's the main one we are facing right now.
What's your Pre-show ritual? We have never really developed one I don't think.
