interview with Chiral

Have any of you played in other bands?  Yes, I have a funeral doom project called Il Vuoto.
How is it that you started playing music?  I had nothing better to do, I guess.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?  I'm Teo, and I'm 24. And I'm the sole member of Chiral. So I play everything by myself.

Have you had other previous members? I had a couple of bands when I was at high  school. But nothing really worth to be mentioned.

Where are you from? North of Italy.

What year did the band form? End of 2013.

What's your style of genre?  I mean, I've approached a lot of different genres since the band was formed. Nowadays I think I'm in sort of an atmospheric /folk black metal moment.

What inspires you? Life, fears, nature and music most of all.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Obviously I have a normal work to make a living. But besides music I run, with a friend of mine, a music blog called The Somber Lane. (https://somberlanemusic.wordpress.com/)

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? No, I'm not, to be honest. Actually, at the moment I'm trying to self release my next album. I'm not against underground labels of course, but I just want to try and do everything on my own this time, and see what happens.

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Usually with the music. Most of the time lyrics came afterwards.

What language do you sing in? English, I sang at all in Italian just one time, on a small part of a song included in a 3 way split album. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC1rjrPWauI

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? I think it was one year ago, more or less. I sold the first copy of my demo to a guy from Japan. At the moment all the stuff I have for sale are displayed here: http://chiral.bigcartel.com/

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? I can't blame them sometime. And however I always try to give away my music as free downloads, whenever this is possible. By the way I find pointless and somehow stupid when an unknown artist, like me, ask money for their digital music. What they don't understand is that people will download their music for free anyway, if they're not interested in support them. But ok, that's just my humble point of view.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Well, first of all I think that majors don't rule the scene, no more at least. Now Indies have more freedom and more possibilities to stand out with their own hands. But, on the other hand music doesn't sell anymore because of the huge amount of new acts that flood the music scene.

Do you have any role models or idols? No, I
don't think I have any idols. There are a lot of admirable people out there, but calling them idols would be a bit too much, in my opinion.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Spread my music. It isn't easy make someone listening to an unknown artist, also considering today's huge amounts of quality band.

What advice would you give other bands or artists?  Mmm, probably to stay modest.

Do you have any new material? Yes, I've just released this new single, taken from the upcoming release: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BridaGtT0C0

How can people reach you?  They can find Chiral at: [email protected]  I used to have a website too, but it is disabled at the moment.
What are your plans for the future?
My first full length Abisso is going to be out on August through Black Plague Records. And I'll hopefully release another one within the end of the year.

Do you have something to add? Well, thank you for this interview and thanks to all the people that have been following me so far!
