interview with APOKATASTASE
How was the band formed? 2010, January.
Can you tell about your band? We play death/thrash metal. Our very first influence band is Mortification, from Australia. Our songs say about life and hope. We're Christians, but our faith is to be appreciated and no to be copied... But is a very good form to see the real life.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?
We're all from São Paulo, Brazil. The band is formed by:
Ismael Santana - bass/vocal
Josivan Soares - guitar
Bruno Santana - drums
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? We play for we believe. We think that the metal is a very special 'conductor' of our words. We wanna be respected with our death/thrash metal, and that the people listen our lyrics.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? It's a brutal death metal vocal, with some fast riffs from thrash metal. We looking for to do a song that people like and overall have fun.
Where was your first gig? We played at Crash Underground Point in São Paulo. We opened the very first 'dia contra a abominação' event. It's an event that happens every year in October, 12.
Where was the latest gig? We played last Saturday (02/28) at Crash Underground Point, celebrating our 5th anniversary band.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Some lyrics is write by Ismael. We make the music together.
Who has the best since of humor in the band? We're very happy and 'smileness'.... Bruno is very clown sometimes
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? Our song is about life and death, physics and spiritual, God and devil, etc. We speak about things that we live. We speak about God and how to be a life with sense, and hope a eternal life in Him.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We played covers at begin, sometimes we close a show just for covers. Last year we made a Horde cover, and some set lists of the begin, we played mortification's songs.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We record a DVD with "DIY" (do it yourself). With a poor material we got to made a good material.

How old are you?/What got you started in music? We're 5th years on the road
What year was the band started? We got started in 2010, January.
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? This year we have to record an album, so we haven't taking shows.
Where have you played from then till now? We played some places in Brazil. Curitiba, Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais
Witch band is the best you´ve seen? We support all our friend's bands, cause we believe in the underground, so we think that all of them are the bests. it's a lot, but the best are: Crossrock and Suntribo, both from Brazil.
Is it always the same songs live? Yes, for while, our set list is 12 songs. We have in mind to record this songs at this year
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? The release of our DVD. Was the best ever for us
Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? No, we've not
How big crowds do you usually play for? We usually plays just in a little pubs.
What are the plans for the rest of the year?
Record an album and make it known.
Where do you usually play? Crash Underground Point in Sao Paulo
What are your goals with your music? Brings hope through our faith.
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? We have reference from both, and take the best from each.
What are your sources of inspiration? The bands we listen: mortification, living sacrifice and becoming the archetype are the usual at this moment.
What's the first step when making a new song? The riffs. Then, we think about the lyrics.
What would be your dreams for the band? Be known and liked. And meeting personally our inspirations bands.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? We listen a lot of different bands, since post-punk at brutal splatter noise. We listen to: Antestor, the smiths, the doors, demon hunter, Alice cooper.... Haha, is very variety.
When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? We up to stage trusty, but we worries about the answer from the people.
Have you been in any other bands? Our guitar have another band called Neohadt
What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Bruno is arts teacher, Josivan is system analyst and Ismael is a police man. Yeah, we have a normal life hahahha.
How important are your fans? They are who support the band. There's no sense to be a band without fans.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? 'Salvação' - we like so much this song, cause it CAMES for us. The music was completely formed at once. And 'onde os demônios não ousam entrar' is our new song, and it's in our new t-shirt. It speaks about demons and mankind.

Describe your show, visually and musically We plays raw death/thrash, with speed drums and heavy riffs. Ou behavior is very joyful, cause is a thing that we love to do. And We speaks about the lyrics between the songs. We hope to be understood.
How do you view the musicindurty of today? We believe and support the underground scene. Media usually makes a manipulation of the kind of behavior that people have to be/do. We prefer to run from it and be authentic.
What advice would you like to give other bands? Don't stop to playing ! Is a very difficult path but if u believe, u can go further ;)
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? "Moneyless", Hahahahahah.
What is best/worst with playing the clubs? Usually not pay for it, we plays after all, but the clubs properties keeps a 'culture' that the musician must be works free.
Whats your Pre-show ritual? We pray for the people like the show and understand our propose. And we pray for the people that is in there.
