interview with Eyes On Satellites

Have any of you played in other bands? Yeah, all of us have been in various bands since high school.

How is it that you started playing music? We've all been into going to shows and listening to music, so creativity had a natural progression of learning to play instruments and writing songs of our own.

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Andrew- guitar, Will- clean vocals and guitar, Danny- bass, Mark- drums, Dave- vocals We're all in our mid 20s to early 30s

Did you make music even when you were young? I (Andrew) started playing guitar when I was 14, I think the other guys started at some point in middle school or high school.

Where are you from? Mark and Andrew are from NH.  Will and Danny are from Lowell, and Dave is from the Boston area.

What year did the band form? We started writing music in 2013, and releases our first EP Explorations January 1st, 2015.

What's your style of genre? We're a post-hardcore band.

What inspires you? Making art, influencing others, giving ourselves and kids who go to our shows a release from everyday life.

How often and where do you reherse? We practice a couple times a week in Lowell MA

How have you developed since you started with the music? We can all play faster and harder than we used to, so that's cool.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? The band is sort of our escape from work and everyday life, but we all like going out, watching movies, playing video games, and seeing other bands play.

What made you decide to make this music? We just really like art, and what comes out, what we release for music is the natural progression that comes form the five of us in a room making music.

What are your songs about? Girls

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Everything in our band is a team effort

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Usually we start with instrumentals, and put vocals over them after.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? It's a delicate balance between intense focus, mathematics, passion, and inebriation

Have you done any covers live? We covered a Weeknd song once

What language do you sing in? English, but now that you mention it we really need to work in some more Latin dialect.

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We've ranged from 2 to 600

What ages are most of your concert attendants? Probably 16 to 25

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We only have 7 songs at the moment, so we usually just play them all

Do you have a regular place you play live often? We've played a few shows at the Palladium in Worcester MA, which have all been a good time.  They're real good to us, and the crowd is always rad.

What was your first gig like? Loud, hectic, sweaty

What was your latest gig? We play at the Middle East a few weeks ago, and it was so much fun.  That was a big deal for all of us.

Have you had to cancel a gig? Our van broke once when we were on tour, but I think that was it.

Where have you played live this year? Just local shows in MA and NH i believe.

Where do you plan to gig the coming year? We're taking the winter off to write our next album, and planning to get on the road later in the year

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We have cds, t shirts, wristbands, and stickers available.

Where can people buy your merchandise? Check out our big cartel!

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It can make things difficult for bands, because it's hard to support yourself being a musician nowadays.  At the same time though, we're very grateful to just play shows and meet new people, and that makes it worth it in a way.

Do you have any role models or idols? Will Swan, Tom Cruise, Tommy Wiseau, Frank Zappa.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Sometimes deer run out on the highway, so you gotta dodge em real fast

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Turn your amps up all the way, blast some riffs out, and have fun.

How do you get psyched for a gig? A couple beers and a lotta jumping jacks.

Do you have any new material? We just released a new single called Icarus II, check out the video on youtube!
