Interview with S. from Ars Veneficium

Have any of you played in other bands? Yesh, some of us still do.

How is it that you started playing music? I think i was about an age of 14 years old and just like most teenagers (i guess) you want to be creative at that time.. And so i started playing electric guitar which was quickly followed by doing vocals in my very first bands on the age of 15 years old.

What are your names? / Who plays what?

Vocals & Lyrics
Ronarg - Lead Guitars & Compositions
Lava - Bass
Archcaust - Rythm Guitars
Norgameus - Drums

Have you had other previous members?

Yesh, we had a couple.

Past Members:
Ketter - Rythm Guitars (Winter 2013 - Spring 2014)
Sorath - Drums (Summer 2013 - Summer 2014)

Past Live/Session Members:
Perthalgiz - Drums (2014 - Early 2015)

Where are you from? Belgium.

What year did the band form? We started out under the name Ars Veneficium in June 2013.

What's your style of genre? Tradditional Satanic Black Metal i believe is the best way to describe our music.

What inspires you? Thoughts, Personal highlights, Things i feel and see when i push my mind into a more darker side (this is something personal which i find very hard to describe), Satanism, Occultism,

How often and where do you rehearse? Depends, we try to rehearse at least 2 times a month. Mostly before a gig.

How have you developed since you started with the music? I personally believe i have. I'm creating this kinda of music for over 10 years now and when i look back on myself or early recordings from when i was young i can see a huge growth.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? I've played in many others bands besides Ars Veneficium. Most of them are now split up except for a few. And i own my own record label Immortal Frost Productions.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Not really, i mainly handle all the bookings myself.
Of course if a booking agency is interested to work with us they can always contact us and we'll see what happens..

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Well, since i own a record label myself i don't really look for another label. Yet, it is always good to have interested people towards our music especially since we want to get our music out on different formats. (CD, Vinyl, Tape,..)

What made you decide to make this music? This is hard question to answer since i was only 14 years old when i start playing this type of music. Back then i think it was more or less for fun..

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics?

Lyrics
Ronarg - Composing

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Mostly the music first followed by the lyrics.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? I mostly write my lyrics on my own away from any company.

Have you done any covers live? NO

What language do you sing in? English

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs?

This is diffecult to answer since i'm not counting the crowd (hehe).
But i think the least people we played for is probably around 30 people or something and the biggest crowd up to now around 150 people.

What ages are most of your concert attendants? No idea

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? Some we play always, others we change. Depends also on our playing time.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? No and i try to avoid this aswell.

What was your first gig like? Our first gig, i think this was a pretty good one to start out with.
We played at a small local pub and we had around 120 visitors. Indoors was full and outdoors was also crowded. And we recieved many good reactions so i think this couldn't have been better.

Have you had to cancel a gig? Yesh, we had to cancel 1 gig because i got very sick with the flue a few days before the gig would take place.. I was really exhausted and my voice was totaly gone. So there was no point in trying to perform. So we cancelled.

Where can people buy your merchandise? Through the online webstore of our record label Immortal Frost Productions: http://shop.immortalfrostproductions.com

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? Personal i'm not a fan of downloading music. And i think people who only download music instead of buying the physical records are killing the music industry.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? I think a lot. Since many people download, its hard for record labels to fund new releases and by this many bands don't even get a chance to get a record deal.

Do you have any role models or idols? I do like several musicians which i believe had some influence on me but not to say that they are my role models.

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Personal i don't like to take any inspiration of other bands. Ofcourse this can happen unaware but i never let myself guided by this.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Hmm, this is a very complex and personal question i think which is rather hard to answer in an open interview.

How do you get psyched for a gig? Mostly i'm to busy to pay any attention to it, unloading the car, setting up the merchandise etc.. I guess like every other artist. Have a few quick beers before enter the stage.

Do you have any new material? Yesh we have. We're recording at this very moment for our full length album "The Reign Of The Infernal King" which will be released in early 2016.
