interview with Lords of the Trident

Have you played in any band before? While many of our members have had side-projects during our hiatus years, this has been the first band for many of us.

How will they do that you began to enter the field of music? When I emerged from a volcano containing metal and steel at the beginning of time, I knew that my one driving goal would be the creation of the most METAL band of all time. Because of this instinctual passion, I created the band.

What's your name? / Who plays what? / How old are you?

Fang VonWrathenstein - Lead Vocals

Pontifex Mortis - Lead Bass

Asian Metal - Lead Guitar

Dr. Dante Vitus - Lead Drums

Baron Taurean Helleshaar - Lead Guitar

Have you had previous members? Yes! Many of our former members were captured or killed by a shadowy multinational conglomorate called SPIDR, so we’ve gone through two guitarists, three drummers, and a bassist!

Did you do music already when you were small? Yes, when I was a young barbarian, my parents taught me the war cries of my people. That’s where my vocal power comes from.

Where are you from? We currently live in Madison, Wisconsin, USA

What year was started the band? We started at the dawn of time, but took a 750 year hiatus in 1342 due to the black plague. We restarted the band in 2008.

What do you play music style? Heavy Metal. Some have described what we do as power metal, but there are a lot of argumentation over sub-genres of metal, so I’ll let you decide!

What inspires you? The sound of battle, the clash of swords, and the screams of war horses as they charge into the frey

How often do you repair? (I’m not sure what this question means)

Each repaired you? (I’m not sure what this question means)

Do you use earplugs when you appear? Yes - we must keep our hearing crystal clear!

How hve you evolved since you started with music? I feel like after each member change, we’ve gotten closer and closer to the type of driving metal we want to make. Everyone brings their own distinct flavor.

Do you have any other interests or jobs outside of the band and the music? Yes, unfortunately we must masquerade as normal humans during the day to make extra gold pieces. We also have a number of hobbies including martial arts, cats, recording, and video games.

Are you looking for the booking company, what are your thoughts and requirements around it then? Most of the booking we do ourselves, so we haven’t found a need for a company yet.

Are you looking for record labels, what are your thoughts and requirements around it then? We’re currently signed with Killer Metal Records out of Germany. We like to stick with smaller record labels, as their terms aren’t as intrusive as the bigger guys. You could even argue that nowadays, a record company is not entirely essential to success.

Questions about your music and lyrics:

How will that you do music? We create the most facemelting metal out there.

What are your songs about the whole? Battles, heroes, and all sorts of other metal things. Many of our songs are introspective, and some are even about futuristic dystopian societies!

Who writes the lyrics? I (Fang) write most of the lyrics, with help from Asian Metal and sometimes the other members.

Who does the music? Usually Asian Metal or the Baron will come up with a general riff, and we put together a demo and build on it from there.

When you do a song, you start with the music or the lyrics? The music. I like to imagine what the music is saying, and write lyrics towards that.

In which environment do you usually do your songs? We write our songs 13 miles beneath the earth’s crust, in our practice space and recording studio.

Do you play only original songs live and also covers? We’ve done covers from time to time! Iron Maiden, Dio, Priest, and a bunch of others!

What language are you singing about? English

Where do you have plans to play the rest of the year? We’ve got a short mini-tour going down into the Southern US at the end of the year. Other than that, we’re writing the new album.

Which countries have you played in? USA and Canada. We want to play Germany and Japan next!

Where can I buy your Merchanndise? We have our merch available on our website: www.LordsOfTheTrident.com

Questions about your views:

What do you think about downloading more music than buying CDs nowadays? I think it’s great! Many people (myself included) enjoy listening to albums on MP3 players, phones, etc. so being available online is essential.

How to think and do you think the music industry has changed since they started downloading music? The barrier to entry have gotten a LOT easier (for better or for worse), but all of the money has dropped out of the business. Labels are hemorrhaging cash currently. It makes being a full-time band very difficult.

If you prefer downloaded music, cassette, CD or Vinyl? I prefer MP3, because I do a lot of work with computers, and I like having all my music at my fingertips without having to swap out media.

What would you do if the music is not the fans? If we didn’t have fans, we wouldn’t be a band!

What about the guards' job at your gigs and stuff? Since we have a lot of sharp weaponry at our shows, we don’t normally need guards. Most thieves know that if they get caught, they’ll lose their heads.

Those attending light and sound how much they have helped you really if you think about? A good soundman and light show is incredibly important to any good show. It definitely makes the experience.

What do you think of my work? It’s great!

How believe and know that this interview will help you in Brazilian music? We have a number of Brazilian fans, and we hope to do a South America tour someday!

What are your role models or idols? In terms of singers, I really like Dio and Pavarotti.

What do you think they are age limits on some concerts? I understand that some environments may not be suitable for younger warriors, and some legal limits on who can buy alcohol are set by the city/country. Unforunately, we can’t do anything about this.

Why do you think they are? Legal limits on who can purchase alcohol.

Is it easier to draw inspiration from older bands than bands that are active today? Sometimes. Many local and unsigned bands are doing INCREDIBLE things, and we look up to many of them as well as the big names.

What has been conditioned biggest obstacles in the music industry? Currently, the lack of money. No one wants to help any up and coming bands because it’s a big investment. They’d rather put money into older acts that everyone already knows.

What advice would you give to other bands and artists? Sometimes you have to build your own way forward!

How tags you up before a concert? I’m always very excited before a battle!
