interview with Modern Mimes

Have any of you played in other bands? We have both played in other bands. Ernesto toured with several bands including Another Black Day, Joan Red, and Evolve Thru Scars. Adi had her own solo project and also sang in a band called Meridian Sky.

How is it that you started playing music? Adi was four years old when she discovered that she could sing. In her teens she began writing lyrics and composing guitar and vocal melodies. Ernesto's father played guitar in cover bands, which intrigued him, so he began playing drums and guitar. Then in his early teens started a rock band with some neighborhood kids.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Adi Elcida Hernandez, 30 years old, Vocals, Guitar, Drum Programming. Ernesto Paez, 31 years old, Guitar, Bass, double neckk guitar/bass.
Have you had other previous members? No previous members
Did you make music even when you were young? Yes. We both started learning to play our instruments at a younger age.
Where are you from? We are from Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA
What year did the band form? The band formed in 2015
What's your style of genre? We have a few different elements in our music. While technically we are considered Alternative, we gave ourselves our own genre called Future Goth.
How often and where do you reherse? We rehearse in our home at least twice a week, if not more.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We came to realize that our sound was somewhat unique. With that being said, we strive to hone in on our sound as much as possible.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Adi works in wardrobe styling for photo shoots and film as well as visual merchandising for clothing retailers. Ernesto only likes music.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We are currently working with Distractions Booking Agency in Minnesota.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? At the moment, we are doing everything ourselves. Should the opportunity arise to work with an independent label, we would more than likely consider it. Major labels are not a point of interest for us at this time, but will be up for consideration in the near future.
What made you decide to make this music? We decided to make music together when the opportunity to play a sober event came up. We learned a few covers and wrote some original material acoustically. After the event, we decided to see how far we could take this project.
What are your songs about? Our songs are about many different things from overcoming obstacles, struggle, spiritual turmoil, love, hate, demons, angels and looking within to obtain a higher potential.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Adi writes all of the lyrics and writes acoustic guitars and electric drums. Ernesto writes electric guitars and bass riffs as well as keyboards and drum patterns.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? It has been different for every song. Some songs start with a simple melody or even just one lyric.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? We try to compose whenever the energy is right. Sometimes the energy in the environment will change and can affect the writing process in either a good way or a bad way.

Have you done any covers live? Yes, we include a Nine Inch Nails cover in our live set. We also know a few 80's and 90's rock covers.

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary?  We vary the set to what we feel the audience will respond to best.

What was your latest gig? Our last gig was in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Have you had to cancel a gig? Yes. Unfortunately Ernesto became sick in Houston, Texas and was unable to perform.
Where have you played live this year? This year we've played various cities in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Arkansas.
