Have any of you played in other bands? We all started to play in different bands. I played in only two other bands befor i join Divine:Zero. Ben and björn played in azreal´s  tears together, Which became Divine:Zero. Makka was the busiest among us. He played in a lot of bands within a lot of different genres.

How is it that you started playing music? We all started to play music when we were going to school. some friends had the idea of forming a band and we were part of that.

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?

Björn is our singer and plays the guitar; Ben is our lead guitarist; Markus or makka plays the bass guitar; and I am Stefan or plö, I play the drums.

Have you had other previous members? over the years Divine:Zero exists, we had a number of members who left for various reasons. Ben Björn, the only foundling members left, and I are together in D:Z since 2004. I replaced their drum computer. Makka joined us 2,5 years ago after som struggles on our position at the bass guitar.

Did you make music even when you were young? Since we started to form bands during our times at school, I go with "Yes we did".

Where are you from? We are from Erkelenz, a small town in Northrhein-westphalia, Germany. It is pretty close to the dutch boarder.

What year did the band form? The band Divine:Zero derived from a band called Azrael´s tears which björn and ben founded in 1996. When they decided to change their sound the band´s name changed with it in 1999.

What's your style of genre? We play melodic Death Metal.

How often and where do you rehearse? We try to rehearse twice a week, as farr as our work situation lets us. our rehearsal room is a private basement with no rent to pay. It´s the perfect place to make music.

How have you developed since you started with the music? The band underwent a huge development. as Azrael's tears the guys made symphonic black metal like dimmu borgir. then as Divine:Zero. we started to make melodic death metal with a very cold and clean sound. The songs were very complex back then. this was the time I came into the band. I wasn´t eve sure if I can play stuff like this, because I haven´t played anything that fast as some of their songs were. Bur it worked and we became a solid melodic death metal band. some compare us to bands like dark tranquility or even old in flames, but I think we have our own Divine:zero style.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? we are currently working with a booking agency and it turns out to be a good thing. this way we are now able to play better and bigger shows.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Our, we are working with is quality steel records from Hamburg in Germany.

What made you decide to make this music? It was not really a decision; it was more like an ongoing process which lead to the kind of music we play. the only decision was to play metal music.

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? the music comes first. Björn gets his ideas for his lyrics by the feeling the music provides.

Do you compose in a certain environment? The basic ideas are composed at home, so are the lyrics. The songs in total are made in the rehearsal room.

Have you done any covers live? We did play one or two covers songs live when we hadn´t have enough own material for a live set, but we don´t do that anymore.

What language do you sing in? All our lyrics are in English.

What ages are most of your concert attendants? our average audience is between mid-20s and early 30s.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? There are some places we played several times, but we don´t have that one place we play over and over again.

What was your latest gig? the latest gig was just last Saturday in front of 500 people. It was a nice show.

Where have you played live this year? We played all of our shows all over Germany this year.

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? Next year is planned to play some gigs Belgium and the Netherlands and some shows in Germany.

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We sell merchandise since the band exists. our merch includes shirts, stickers, cd, g-strings and lighters, but we plan to expand our merchandise with some new products.

Where can people buy your merchandise? You can come to our shows and purchase our stuff there or you can order it online on our homepage The CD are also available at your local music shop or they can at least order them for you.

What do you think of my work? We are and underground band and we appreciate every support we can get. people like you are important for the underground and the metal world. Without your work there would be no way for bands like us to spread the word if you want to say it like that.

Do you have any role models or idols? We all have our personal heroes, but as a band we don´t have that kind of role model. we create the music we like most without trying to sound like others. if it is like this, than it is  a coincidence.

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Both! it is that simple. If there is something that gets you, it will inspire you, no matter if it´s new and modern or older and classic.

Do you have any new material? We are currently writing on som new songs.
