interview with PsyckophonY

Have any of you played in other bands? Of course.
How is it that you started playing music? We was street friends with similar music taste and we love our musical instruments since our childhood. So one thing take us to the other.
What are your names? / Who plays what?

Francisco Zalinas: Guitar and vocals

César Velázquez: Bass

Leonardo Arredondo: Keyboards

Mike Saavedra: Drums
Have you had other previous members? Yes. We had another drummer the last year, but he leaves the band for personal reasons. So, we are still good friends.
Did you make music even when you were young? Sure, we love the music and that`s a reason why we are still together. We have older music, so that is in perpetual motion trough the years and we use it in new materials, with new arrangements and more mature of course.
Where are you from? From Saltillo Coahuila, México.
What year did the band form? In the second half of 2005, but we take the 2006 as the real beginning.
What's your style of genre? We make a kind of Power/ Speed metal
What inspires you? Everything to make music, and the same for the lyrics.
How often and where do you rehearse? When we where younger we play as much as we can do. But for now if we are just in vacation time, talking about not compromises as recording sessions or shows, just one day peer week.
How have you developed since you started with the music? I think we and of course myself are in constant motion. That comes from our way of life and thinking. Nobody should stay just seeing the movement, and there`s always a lot to learn.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Always. Since small projects and a lot of things to do and learn.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? I´ts complicated for the cost, but we need one. We think that´s necesary to grow up.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We are with CarpeDiem Records for now, but we are open to another proposals.
What made you decide to make this music? I suppose that was the heartbeat, not in the romantic way, i mean literally. We like the faster music with movement and good lyrics.
What are your songs about?
We have a lot of songs. The first ones talks about prehispanic cultures , after that conspiracy and sci-fi, movies, books, and our new CD talks about our particular vision of the story of the creation of the human kind. We made it more like conceptual with some breaks to release tension.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics?
Commonly Zalinas. But it´s always a teamwork.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? It`s matter of taste. I mean thats not problem o the start of all.
Have you done any covers live? Of course, At the beginning a lot, but nowadays just one or two just in some shows.
What language do you sing in? English and spanish.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Well , i really dont know, but we are happy with that. It´s very common to know people who see our show an they start to follow us, and others like our music.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? Kids from 6 to 60 and older. I´ts strange and interesting.
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? Till now we have 3 Lp´s and one Ep. And we`re in the creative process of the 4. So we do some variations, we take older songs, we put a cover, we do jams. We try to be more interesting for our followers or not followers, and of course to stay always awake. As musicians we always need some new goals
What was your first gig like? Great and tired.
Where have you played live this year? This year we played just in México, but the next year will be more outside the country.
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? It´s surprise but it´s outside our country.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We sell in our facebook page and the label makes the rest. We have hoodies, shirts, cd´s, and all that kind of things.
Where can people buy your merchandise? http://zalinas.wixsite.com/psyckophony , amazon, spotify, deezer.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It`s complicated, it`s a double edge knife. Can be a great and helpful tool but if you are living of this the tool can make you lose a lot.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Well, nowadays it`s more easy and complicated, it`s very strange how it´s all working.
What do you think of my work? It´s a great work, we need more people like you.

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? I think this should help us to get more people interested in our music and of course knowing a bit of us.
Do you have any role models or idols? I have a lot of idols or role models, but in the same way i think they have his human side, so i prefer to take the good things and leave the other. So i can live with no false ideas or deceptions, and of course not judge anyone.
Why do you think that they exist? They does not exist or all is an illusion. We are idols to others as others are our idols. But we are humans, so all is very subjectif. As we need a role model, and for that we should be better persons , cos´ we are the idols tho others. This apply in the mainstream as well.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? I guess.
What have been your biggest obstacles?
The money of course. In this industry you need to invest more than your art an time. So it´s a not very funny cycle.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Don´t give up! And have in mind your goals!
How do you get psyched for a gig? I`ll try to be focussed in the rehearsal , not in the way or that things.
