On Odium Hominum band has passed keyboard player named Paulo (Pentacrostic) and 3 drummers: Eduardo Auriemi (current Infernal Curse), Pedro Leandro (Imperial Devastation), Thiago Monteiro (Ex Ala Mortis) until Rodrigo join us and we finally stabilize this formation.
Where are you from? We are from São Paulo - Brazil
What year did the band form? Odium Hominum was formed on 2004
What's your style of genre? We play Death Metal in his pure form
What inspires you? We are inspired on honor, supernatural and humanity’s decadence. All things that brings the world to the rupture point that we are now and what’s the legacy of mankind to the planet.
How often and where do you rehearse? We rehearse to play and compose one day a week
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Here in Brazil we need to work on other things outside the music, cause we don’t have any support. So the bassist is a metallurgist, the drummer is a web designer and I’m a co-owner of a musical instrument store
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We’re not looking for a booking agency cause here in Brazil the agents gets the money of the bands, explore it and don’t do anything for it. We don’t know how it works in other countries, but here in Brazil it doesn’t works well.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We are responsive to any label that wants to sign with us
What made you decide to make this music? I think that the basic thing that lead us to make death metal is the passion for this music genre
What are your songs about? Our songs are basically about the human decadence, the darkness on people’s hearts and social inequality
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We all compose and write the lyrics
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We always start with the music
Have you done any covers live? We like to do a tribute to some bands that inspire us, like Black Sabbath, Rotting Christ and Hypocrisy, and we do this in live performance
What language do you sing in? We always sing in English, but we have a future project to write some lyrics in Portuguese
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We like to vary the set list according to place, public and time of presentation.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Yes, we often play on “Havana” bar, it’s a nice place where we realize a festival named “The Return” (a tribute to Bathory), we invite some bands and make a great Metal Night.
What was your first gig like? Well, that was a great gig, a really good show, when we play with Pentacrostic band
What was your latest gig? The latest gig was in December 2017, and it was a great show too. It was a festival with 3 more great Brazilian bands.
Have you had to cancel a gig? Sure, we have to cancel some shows for many reasons. Here is a kind common some festivals being canceled, specially by the bar owners or agents.
Where have you played live this year? Not yet, our first show will be on March 9th
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? We don’t make plans to play here or there, we just don’t want to stop playing. We’re response to all invites.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We started to sell merchandise in 2006 cause all material band comes only from the income of the members. We sell our album “Omnia Mors Aequat”, T-shirts, etc.
Where can people buy your merchandise? On facebook page: facebook.com/odiumhominum or with us on the shows we play
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days?
We don’t blame that people, but we think that this kind of people don’t love music like we do, those people are not true fans of Metal genre, cause when you love something, you want to see it grows and it’s only possible with the support of true fans that buy our music.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? To turn short a long history of music industry, now the musicians, bands and singers only gets money on concerts and selling clothes. The ”download era”, the music industry lost lots of a money every year and will gets worse in future.
What do you think of my work? We like your work and we always support that kind of work cause we know the importance of it for the metal music. People like you increase the genre and make more easier to “spread the metal” for people all over the world
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? We like to know that our history and song are crossing the frontiers. We think that’s very important to us be heard for people all over the world.
What have been your biggest obstacles? To live in a country that don’t value the metal genre and don’t have any media support
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Make music by your heart and passion, no matter what they say make music with love to the art and never give up, so you’ll be succeed.
