interview with Taste

Have any of you played in other bands? We both have played in other bands. And we most recently played with Art Nation.
How is it that you started playing music?
Felix: I started playing music because both of my brothers played guitar and I wanted to play as well, but I went with drums.
After a few years I picked up guitar, bass and some keyboard as well.
Chris: I started playing guitar because I wanted to learn how to play guitar solos. I fell in love with the sound of Blind Guardian. And then my music interest just grew from there.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Felix Borg, 27 years old, play: Drums, Guitar, Bass and Keyboard.
Christoffer Borg, 31 years old, play: Guitar, Bass, Keyboard and Sings.
Have you had other previous members? We had three other band members in 2013. But it didn’t work out, so we decided to go our separate ways, but on good terms.
Did you make music even when you were young? Ever since we started to play music we made our own songs.
Where are you from? We are from a small town north of Gothenburg, called Stora Höga. But we both live in beautiful Gothenburg now.
What year did the band form? The band started the day before New Years eve 2009.
What's your style of genre? Our style of music is AOR, Melodic Rock, heavily inspired by the 80s.
What inspires you? Everything inspires us I guess, no specific thing.
How often and where do you rehearse?  We never rehearse actually.
How have you developed since you started with the music? Chris: I have developed a great deal since we started. At first I was a hobbyist making a recording at home but now I am an educated music producer. I actually worked full time at Top Floor Studios in Gothenburg and was being an intern to great producer and friend Jakob Herrmann.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We don’t do live shows these days so we don’t need a booking agency.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? No, we are not looking for a label because we are signed to AOR Heaven and they are really great for a band like Taste.
What made you decide to make this music? We decided to make this kind of music because we both love the 80s.
What are your songs about? Our songs are about various things, on the first record it was mostly sappy love songs. But on our second album the lyrics have evolved and are about everyday stuff, the things that are happening in the world today, personal stuff, dreams and movies.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We both compose songs and write lyrics, but we arrange them together.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We always start by writing music, the lyrics comes later.
Do you compose in a certain environment? We compose the songs in our homes.
Have you done any covers live? No, we have never done any covers live, but we did rehearse a lot of covers back in 2012-2013.
What language do you sing in? We sing in English.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? The least or most people to attend any of our gigs, I have no idea actually.
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We have only played live two times, so the songs we played were from the first album.
What was your first gig like? Our first gig was the opening act for Diamond Dawn. And we had only rehearsed two times together, so we were very nervous.
What was your latest gig? Our latest gig was at Parken in Gothenburg, 2013.
Have you had to cancel a gig?
We never had to cancel a gig.
Chris: I did however have that experience a lot with Art Nation. I guess some band members isn’t strong enough. Personally I would never cancel a gig.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We don’t sell any merchandise now, but in the future we will.
Where can people buy your merchandise? Everything we have at the moment is offered on our Facebook page.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? I don’t think too much about people downloading music. Of course we would like for people to buy our music or music in general, but this is the world we live in today.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? The music industry is slowly changing but there is a long way to go to make smaller bands make any profit.
What do you think of my work? I think you do a great job!
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? To be honest I don’t think an interview is going to help us be a bigger band. But it will definitely help our existing fans to get to know us better. And that is a really good thing.
Do you have any role models or idols? Chris: My biggest guitar idols are Jason Becker, Dimebag Darrel, Vito Brata, André Olbrich, Kee Marcello Alexi Laiho and Yngwie Malmsteen.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? I think it depends on what kind of music you like and are inspired by. For TASTE, it’s definitely older bands, but some new as well.
What have been your biggest obstacles? We have no obstacles really. We are very privileged and happy that we can do this.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Our best advice for other bands is just to have fun and don’t look back!
Do you have any new material? Yes, we have a new single out: We Are Back and a new album on the way.
What are your web sites? www.smarturl.it/tasteswe
How can people reach you? You can reach us on our Facebook .
What are your plans for the future? We have just started working with a new management and we have great plans for the future.
Do you have something to add?
