interview with Candle Burns White

Have any of you played in other bands? We have all been in a few projects, but none of them were as serious as this one.
How is it that you started playing music? Most of us have known each other since High School, and when we met our singer, we decided to just get together and do it.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Timothy Nifyah is our lead vocalist, and also plays a little guitar. He is 26
Jeffrey Marcum plays lead guitar. He is 20
Freaky Shanks plays rhythm guitar. He is 18
Kris Ares plays bass guitar. He is 19
Wojak McGee plays drums. He is 21
Have you had other previous members? No, however Freaky Shanks was a part of the band at the beginning, but left for almost a year and is now back to it.
Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, I think all of us have been playing some kind of instrument since grade school
Where are you from? We are from a small town in Indiana called Versailles
What year did the band form? 2016
What's your style of genre? It varies a little, but Post-Hardcore is mostly what we play
What inspires you? Probably our own dreams. All of us want to push us as far as we can, so I guess we are our own inspiration in a way
How often and where do you reherse? We rehearse at a tattoo shop that we also play shows at. We get together as often as we can, but it's normally only a couple times a month
How have you developed since you started with the music? We've come so far since we started the band. The first song we ever played was some 4 chord song that we haven't played in years. Every time we write, I think we step a little bit more outside our comfort zone, so we are constantly evolving
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? We all really like to skateboard
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Currently we are doing everything DIY, and I think we plan to keep it that way for awhile.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Currently, no we are not looking for a label. We have the means to do everything a label could for us at this point, so we are just gonna stick to DIY style
What are your songs about? Heartbreak, sin, evil, pushing people, normal metal stuff.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Timothy Nifyah writes most of.our lyrics, but Kris Ares and Wojak McGee help sometimes
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? It depends, but usually instruments are first.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? No not really. Just whenever and wherever
Have you done any covers live? No, we actually have never played a cover. We do all original stuff
What language do you sing in? English
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We have played to almost no one. One gig we played last and there was I think 9 people including the promoter, one band, and 2 of our friends. Our biggest show was probably our first, I think there was like 70 people.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? Between 16-30
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We play a different setlist almost every show
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Recently we have been playing our hometown Tattoo Shop, South Indy Ink, pretty often.
What was your first gig like? Crazy to say the least. Our vehicles tire came flying off on the highway and we had to pile like 9 people in a 5 person vehicle so we could all get there, and we ended up headlining the show that night.
What was your latest gig? May 13th we played our hometown Tattoo Shop with our boys in Odium, Rig Time, Albert The Cannibal, The Obnoxious Boot, Deadculture, and 156/silence
Have you had to cancel a gig? Yes. We had a tour booked last year, and we had some vehicle issues and had to cancel our Pennsylvania and Wisconsin show.
Where have you played live this year? This year so far we have played Newport KY, Cincinnati OH, Indianapolis IN, and Osgood IN
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? We plan on hitting those states we had to cancel like Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. I think we would like to play Michigan for the first time, and probably hit some more places in Kentucky, and play Tennessee again
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We took all the money we made from our first show and ordered T-Shirts, Bracelets, and Guitar Picks
Where can people buy your merchandise?
https://candleburnswhite.bigcartel.com/products
We don't really have anything up yet but that will be changing in a few weeks
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? Physical music actually surpassed the sales of digital music recently, and I think that's great, but it doesn't really matter. Music is music, no matter what you listen to it through, the support is what matters.
What have been your biggest obstacles? Getting a van I think has been our biggest obstacle yet.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Watch out for scams and anyone that only cares about the money. Keep up the grind. And more than anything, go to local shows. Show support for your scene, and your scene will start to support you
How do you get psyched for a gig? I think it just kind of happens. We're always pumped to our shows!
Do you have any new material? Yeah. We just played a new song last gig that we plan to record sometime. And we just released an EP this year that you can check out on Spotify, and pretty much everything really.
How can people reach you? Shoot us a message on our Facebook page!
What are your plans for the future? Right now we are trying to get a van so that we can keep playing more out of state and do more tours. Other than that, we plan on getting in the studio to begin work on our first full length album
Do you have something to add?
We'd just like to say thanks for having us! Thank you to everyone who supports us! Please give us a follow on Spotify!
