interview with Poseydon

Have any of you played in other bands?

Yes, we all played in several bands.

I have another band called Everglow, power-metal with female vocals and keyboards.

Our bass player had another band called Court of Chaos, thrash metal.

Our vocalist has another band with members of a motorcycle gang, they played mainly covers, metal and rock songs.

Our drummer is also a member of Everglow now!
So yes, we have played in other bands!

How is it that you started playing music?

Many years ago, I had a friend who played the drums and his brother played guitar, that’s how it started.

The passion for the guitar was there immediately and after a while I started to play the drums as well!

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?

Alain De Block: lead/rhythm guitar / backing vocals: 46 years old

Jeroen Bonne: bass guitar / backing vocals: 29 years old

Christophe Lamsens: lead vocals: 36 years old

Leander Karageorgos: lead/rhythm guitar: 26 years old

Jef Boons: drums: 26 years old

Have you had other previous members?

Yes of course, nothing you can do about that.

In a lifetime things happen and for several reasons members can quit the band.

For example: artistical differences, getting married and having children, building a house.

Did you make music even when you were young? From the moment I started to play music I have written songs.

Where are you from? We hail from Belgium, out of the province East-Flanders.

What year did the band form? The band started in 1992.

What's your style of genre? Thrash/death metal

What inspires you? Everything in life triggers me to create songs and lyrics.

How often and where do you rehearse?

Years ago, we had rehearsal on Tuesday and Sunday,

Now we rehearse once a week in our rehearsal studio at my home.
Depending on the need we sometimes rent a professional rehearsal room.

How have you developed since you started with the music?

You always try to improve it to get the best song you can create.

You can learn from other bands, to have an idea and you work it out with the band,

Always looking for the best riffs for the songs, put your level high!

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? No, Every minute I can I put it in the band.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes sure, if there is a good deal we might think about it. Now we have a friend/fan who does most of our bookings.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that?

In the earlier years it was an option, but now times are changing.
Now you are better off if you have a booker for the gigs!

If we can get a good contract we will do it, otherwise it’s a no!

What made you decide to make this music?

Playing in a band charges your battery and releases all the build-up frustrations of work and everyday life.

You forget all this when you make and play music, that’s why I think it is important for all musicians.

What are your songs about?

Everyday things in life, about death, the mind of a serial killer, aggressive people.

We always try to put us in their situation and think about how it is, and how they can feel.

Not in a negative way how we bring it together.

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics?

We try to do as much as possible everything together, but that is not always easy.

We all write music and lyrics, so a good co-operation is necessary.

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Most of the time it starts with the music and the feel the music gives you, but it can happen sometimes the lyrics are there first.

Do you compose in a certain environment?

Everywhere I can, sometimes at work, in a break, in the car during traffic or at home.

It does not happen in a special room or something like that.

Have you done any covers live?

Yes, when you start a band you make your set a little bit longer with some covers, but now we have enough songs of our own, we don’t need a cover now

In the beginning we did covers from slayer and sepultura!

What language do you sing in? English

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? From 10 people up to 600

What ages are most of your concert attendants?

All ages have been attending  our gigs.

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary?

We try to change our set every gig.
It’s important to vary and keep your set interesting if you have fans who come several times to your gigs!

Do you have a regular place you play live often? No, we always try to play at different locations to meet new people and new fans!

Nothing you can do about that, you can be happy people would like your music anyway!!!
We don’t play music for the sake of money.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this?

People won’t buy cd’s anymore (a new digital generation)!

The music industry have to change it’s wa, everything changes constantly!

Do you have any role models or idols?

When I start playing guitar my favorite band was slayer and I’ve learned everything through them.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Me Personally, some years ago I’ve reached a point where I hadn’t much inspiration writing. Overcoming that was a big challenge, but a new world opened before me!

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Never give up, work hard, you always reach something!

How do you get psyched for a gig?

We don’t do anything special, we just turn on the switch when the first note of the intro start playing.

We try to relax as much as possible just before the gig starts though.
