interview with White Satin

Have any of you played in other bands?
Garry initially played drums in a duo called "US" with future guitarist, songwriter, singer in White Satin Viv's brother Adrian Tucker.
Viv has not played in amy other bands.
How is it that you started playing music?
Garry started playing music when he played the drums in the scouts.
Viv started playing the piano at an early age then went on to the Royal College of Music playing the piano & Oboe.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
Garry Willis - Lead Singer also plays drums & percussion and the band's Lyricist currently 62 years old
Viv Willis - Plays Piano and keyboards in the band also can play the oboe, saxaphone and violin currenly 65 years old

Did you make music even when you were young? Yes: Garry played in the scouts and Viv learnt the piano.

What year did the band form? 1974
What's your style of genre? Rock and Pop
What inspires you? Viv & I just love to play music.
How often and where do you reherse? Garry & Viv Rehearse daily in a purpose built rehearsal studio in their home.
How have you developed since you started with the music? We play more diverse forms and styles of music than we used to.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? 
Garry plays golf and loves motorsport.
Viv plays tabble Tennis does Aqua and Yoga
We both are full time grandparents to 4 kids!
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We are not looking for a booking agancy and arrange our own gigs.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? No we are not looking for a label past all that we think!!!
What made you decide to make this music? Listening to music on the radio and attending concerts made us want to play music.
What are your songs about? Everything, love, hate, space, you name it Garry's lyrics cover it!
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Adrian Tucker used to compose most of the music with Garry Willis writing the lyrics.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Lyrics mostly.
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? No
Have you done any covers live? Yes we mainly do covers when we play live now but we also did back in the day.  Everyting fom the Beatles to Ed Sheeran.
What language do you sing in? English
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? 500 and 50
What ages are most of your concert attendants? Currently between 40 & 80
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? No we vary them as much as possible.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? No.
What was your first gig like? Exciting as the local paper attended and we had a great write up.
What was your latest gig? For Charity in our back garden just Viv & Garry.
Have you had to cancel a gig? No
Where have you played live this year? 2 charity gigs in Ryde on the Isle of Wight
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? Probably some more charuty gigs on the Isle of Wight
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? Never sold merchandise
Where can people buy your merchandise? They cannot!
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? It is their choice but I do not think it helps the artist. Garry still likes to collect Vinyl LP's it is a touchy feely thing!
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? Not for the good a lot of tallent seems to be obtained through tallent shows rather than gigging and doing the groundwork.
What do you think of my work? Love it!
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? At out time of life we do not really care Ha ha!
Do you have any role models or idols?
Garry used to like Steve Harley (had a falling out) and Jimi Hendrix.
Viv loves the Beatles 
Why do you think that they exist? Through shere talent
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Both 
What have been your biggest obstacles? Being noticed when we were younger and first started and lack of money and connections
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Listen to all music and stear your own path, try and be true to yourself and original
How do you get psyched for a gig? No need we just love to play
Do you have any new material? New lyrics but no music to go with them as yet
