interview with Days of Hate

Have any of you played in other bands? YES, WE HAD OTHER PROJECTS BUT THIS ONE IS OUR MAIN PROJECT, SO ALL THE OTHER PREVIOUS BANDS ARE BROKEN UP.
How is it that you started playing music? HMM, THAT'S A HARD QUESTION, SINCE MY CHILDHOOD I ALWAYS LOVED MUSIC, STARTED TO PLAY ACOUSTIC GUITAR AT VERY YOUNG AGE AND THEN SWITCHED TO DRUMS, BUT I THINK IT WAS A NATURAL PROGRESSION, SINCE I ALWAYES LOVED MUSIC IN GENERAL.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?
I'M CESAR CHIOZZO, I PLAY DRUMS AND I'M 31 YEARS OLD
MY BANDMATE IS SAMUEL SALES, HE SINGS AND PLAYS GUITAR AND HE'S 21 YEARS OLD.
Have you had other previous members? YES, MANY. SINCE WE STARTED THE BAND IN 2012 THE LINE-UP CHANGED MANY TIMES. THIS CURRENT LINE-UP IS PLAYING SINCE 2016 AND ABOUT 8 OR 9 GUYS PLAYED IN THE BAND BEFORE.
Did you make music even when you were young? YES, BUT NOT IN BANDS. I JUST STARTED MY FIRST BAND WHEN I WAS 19. AND FOR SAMUEL, THIS IS A HARD QUESTION, BECAUSE HE STILLS YOUNG, HE'S ONLY 21 AND THIS IS HIS FIRST BAND. BEFORE THE BAND HE HAD ONLY ONE-MAN PROJECTS FOR INTERNET DISTRIBUTE.
Where are you from? WE ARE FROM SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL
What year did the band form? WE STARTED TO PLAY IN MAY 2012
What's your style of genre? WE PLAY A MIX OF GRINDCORE AND NOISECORE, VERY EXTREME AND SHORT SONGS.
What inspires you? MUSIC ITSELF, OTHER BANDS, AND OUR DAY BY DAY LIVING IN A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY. FOR SURE WE HAVE TOO MANY REASONS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT.
How often and where do you reherse? NOT THAT OFTEN BECAUSE WE DON'T A HAVE A PRACTCE PLACE FOR OUSELVES. SO WE HAVE TO PRACTICE AT PROFESSIONAL STUDIOS WHAT IS EXPASIVE HERE IN BRAZIL. SO BASICALLY WE LIKE TO USE OUR SOUNDCHECK TIME JUST RIGHT BEFORE OUR GIGS TO TRY SOMETHING NEW, AND SINCE OUR KIND OF MUSIC IS VERY SIMPLE, ALMOST ALWAYS IT WORKS REALLY WELL.
How have you developed since you started with the music? HMM, NOW WE FEEL THINGS ARE STARING GETTING EASIER FOR US. I MEAN, AS MUCH AS WE PLAY LIVE, AS MUCH WE CAN FIND MORE GIGS, MORE CONTACTS AND STUFF LIKE THAT. SO AT MOMENT WE HAVE GATHERED CONTACTS AROUND THE CONTRY AND EVEN ABROAD, AND ALL THESE PEOPLE HAVE HELPED US TO DELEVOPE THE BAND. I MEAN, MANY LABELS ARE WORKING WITH US, RELEASING OUR STUFF, WE HAVE A PROFESSIONAL GUY WHO DRAWS MANY OF OUR ARTWORK AND STUFF LIKE THAT. BOOKING GIGS ARE GETTING EASIER AS WELL.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? WE DON'T MAKE MONEY ENOUGH FROM THE BAND TO LIVE ONLY DOING THAT. SO BASICALLY WE HAVE TO HAVE NORMAL DAY JOBS, WHAT SUCKS...
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? BOOKING AGENCY MAY BE A COOL OPTION FOR GETTING A WHOLE TOUR BOOKED IN IT'S BEST WAY, BUT WE'VE NEVER WORKED WITH THIS KIND OF SERVICE BEFORE. ALL THE TOUR WE HAVE DONE WERE BOOKED BY OURSELVES, SO THIS UNDERGROUND WAY OF WORK HAS REALLY WORKED FOR US.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? YES, LABELS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME. WE LIKE TO MAKE DEAL WITH THEM, AND ALWAYS IT WORKS REALLY WELL. THEY RELEASE OUR ALBUMS IN THEIR COUNTRIES, AND THEN SEND US SOME OF THE COPIES. IF A LABEL WANTS TO HELP US, PLEASE, FEEL FREE TO GET IN TOUCH. WE REALLY APPRECIATE.
What made you decide to make this music? WE'VE ALWAYS LOVED THIS KIND OF MUSIC, EVEN BEFORE TO PLAY IN BANDS. SO STARTING A BAND TO PLAY GRINDCORE WAS JUST A CONSEQUENCE, A NATURAL ''DECISION''. I LOVE GRINDCORE.
What are your songs about? WE USE TO NAME THE SONGS WITH A VERY STRONG NAME AND THEN IT'S OPEN FOR INTERPRETAION, SINCE OUR SONGS DON'T HAVE LYRICS, ONLY SCREAM. SO THEIR NAMES ARE A KIND OF PROTEST, BUT NO LYRICS MAKE THEM INTERPRETATIVE.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? WE ARE ONLY 2 GUYS IN THE BAND, SO WE HAVE TO DO THE WHOLE WORK BY OURSELVES, SO BOTH OF US CREATE ALL OUR SONGS. SAMUEL IS A GREAT GUY IN THIS KIND OF CREATION, VERY CREATIVE, SO HE COMES WITH SOME GUITAR RIFF AND THEN I PLAY THE DRUMS ON THAT, AND SOMETHING NEW IS MADE. BASICALLY THAT'S THE WAY WE CREATE OUR NOISE.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? ALWAYS AND ONLY MUSIC, SINCE WE HAVE NO LYRICS
Do you compose in a certain inviroment? NO, JUST JAM AND TRY TO MAKE SOMETHING NEW. OUR LATEST ALBUM WAS ALL MADE IN A IMPROVISATION AT THE RECORDING STUDIO. WE DIDN'T HAVE CREATE ANYTHING AND THEN IT WAS MADE.
Have you done any covers live? YES, IN THE PAST. BUT SINCE WE PLAY VERY FAST, ALMOST THE COVERS SOUNDED MORE LIKE A ''VERSION'' THEN A REALLY COVER. BUT WE DON'T DO THAT OFTEN.
What language do you sing in? DESPITE THE BAND'S NAME IS IN ENGLISH, ALL THE REST IS IN PORTUGUESE.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? IN TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WE PLAYED LIVE FOR ONLY 2 PEOPLE WHO WERE AT THE VENUE. THE MOST WAS LIKE 100. WE PLAY A KIND OF MUSIC THAT IS REALLY NOT COMMERCIAL. SO YOU CAN CONSIDER YOURSELF A LUCKY PERSON IF YOU PLAY FOR A 25 PEOPLE CROWD.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? EVERY AGE. SOMETIMES PEOPLE GO TO OUR GIGS AND EVEN TAKE THEIR KIDS TOGETHER WITH THEM. SO I WOULD SAY IT IS FOR KIDS TO ADULTS..
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? BASICALLY ALMOST THE SAME. WE JUST TRY TO VARY WHEN WE RELEASE SOMETHING NEW.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? YES, THERE IS A PLACE HERE IN SÃO PAULO CALLED ''UNDERGROUND CLUB'' AND WE HAVE PLAYED MORE THAN 15 TIMES THERE. ALSO WE USE THIS SPOT TO BOOK TOURING BANDS, WE ORGANIZE GIGS FOR FOREIGN BANDS WHO ARE TOURING BRAZIL AND STUFF LIKE THAT. WE ALSO HAVE OUR FESTIVAL THAT WE ORGANIZE BY OURSELVES CALLED ''NOISE OF DEATH FESTIVAL''
What was your first gig like? WAS A VERY SMALL GIG AT A GARAGE HERE IN SÃO PAULO, VERY FEW FRIENDS WERE THERE. IT WAS MORE LIKE A TEST, JUST TO TRY AS A LIVE BAND.
What was your latest gig? IN OUR LATEST GIG WE TRIED SOMETHING NEW, SO WE SHARED THE SAME STAGE, AT THE SAME TIME WITH A HARSH NOISE PROJECT CALLED ''DESTRUCTION OF MUSICALITY'' AND IT WAS REALLY LOUD EXTREME AND NOISY.
Have you had to cancel a gig? YES, BUT WE HATE TO CANCEL A GIG. THE ONLY GIG WE HAD TO CANCEL SO FAR IS WHEN MY BANDMATE'S FATHER WAS AT THE HOSPITAL VERY SICK, AND HE HAD TO GO THERE TO TAKE CARE OF HIM. THAT DAY WE COULDN'T PLAY THE FESTIVAL WE WERE SUPPOSED TO PLAY.
Where have you played live this year? THIS YEAR WE PLAYED ONLY 2 GIGS LIVE SO FAR, BUT WE ARE TRYING TO PLAY AT LEAST 50 GIGS DURING THE YEAR. BOTH OF GIGS WERE HERE IN THE STATE OF SÃO PAULO.
Where do you plan to gig the comming year? WE ARE TRYING  TO GO ON TOUR ABROAD AGAIN. WE TOURED USA SOME YEARS AGO AND WE ARE TRYING TO GO ABROAD AGAIN.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? SO FAR, ALMOST EVERYTHING IS SOLD-OUT. WE HAVE TO PRODUCE MORE, WHAT TAKES TIME AND MONEY. I AM WAITING TO RECEIVE SOME COPIES OF OUR LATEST ALBUM WHICH ARE COMMING FROM CANADA, SLOVAKIA AND USA.
Where can people buy your merchandise? DIRECTLY FROM THE LABELS THAT RELEASE THEM. IN OUR OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE YOU CAN FIND ALL THE INFORMATION AND LINKS.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? IT'S GOOD, ESPECIALLY FOR SPRADING OUR MUSIC. I AM HERE IN BRAZIL AND YOU CAN DOWNLOAD OUR STUFF THERE IN SWEDEN. THIS IS AWESOME. ALSO, IT'S GOOD BECAUSE INTERNET REACH PLACES WHERE OUR ALBUMS WEREN'T DISTRIBUTE YET. SO A GUY LIVING IN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD CAN LISTEN TO OUR NOISE IF HE WANTS. SO SPREADING MUSIC THIS WAY IS AWESOME. OF COURSE I AM ANSWERING IT BASED IN OUR UNDERGROUND MENTALLITY AND POINT OF VIEW, AND NOT IN A MAINTREAM POINT OF VIEW, BIG RECORD COMPANIES AND STUFF LIKE THAT.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? INDUSTRY CHANGED BECAUSE EVERYTHING CHANGES YEAR BY YEAR, AND IT'S JUST A REFLECTION OF THAT. AS I SAID, FOR ME IT'S GOOD. PEOPLE SAY NOWADAYS BANDS HAVE SOLD LESS ALBUM COPIES THAN BEFORE, BUT AT THE SAME TIME MORE PEOPLE ARE REACHED BECAUSE OF INTERNET THAN THEY WERE REACHED BY TV OR RADIO IN PAST YEAR. I DON'T KNOW. I MAY BE WORNG, BUT AS I SAID, OUR POINT OF VIEW IS VERY UNDERGROUND.
What do you think of my work? AWESOME, I WAS CHECKING YOUR BLOG, AND IT'S IMPRESSIVE HOW MANY BANDS YOU HAVE INTERVIEWED. THAT'S A SUCH NICE WORK. IT'S ALWAYS GOOD THIS KIND OF SUPPORT, ESPECIALLY FOR SMALL BANDS LIKE OURS. PLEASE KEEP DOING THIS GREAT JOB. MORE BANDS WILL BE THANKFULL FOR SURE.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? I DON'T KNOW, BUT I HOPE IT HELP US IN SOME WAY; IF WE JUST AMUSE SOMEONE WHO IS READING THIS, IT'S ENOUGHT FOR US.
Do you have any role models or idols? ''IDOL'' IS A VERY STRONG WORD THAT I WOULDN'T USE. BUT FOR SURE WE ADMIRE MANY PEOPLE, MANY BANDS WE GREW UP LISTENING TO. TOO MAY TOO MENTION HERE HEHE.
Why do you think that they exist? I BELIEVE EVERYONE MUST HAVE SOMEONE TO BE INSPIRED BY. SOMEONE TO BE A REFERENCE FOR STARTING MAKE SOME KIND OF WORK. DOESN'T MATTER IF IT'S MUSIC OR NOT. A GOOD INSPIRATION IS ALWAY WELCOME.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today?
BOTH OF THEM. OLDER BANDS BECAUSE THEY ARE CLASSIC IN THEIR WAY AND ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER AS AN INSPIRATION, AND THE NEWEST BANDS JUST BECAUSE OF THAT, SOMETIMES NEW BANDS HAVE SOMETHING FRESH TO OFFER. WE ARE A NEW BAND AND WE TRY TO MIX THAT.
What have been your biggest obstacles? MONEY. UNDERGROUND BANDS DON'T HAVE SUPPORT FROM BIG COMPANIES, SO BASICALLY WE HAVE TO WORK IN REGULAR JOBS, MAKE MONEY ENOUGH TO INVEST IN THE BAND, TO AFFORD TOUR AND STUFF LIKE THAT. TO BE ON THE ROAD BY OURSELVES IS VERY HARD BUT WE DON'T GIVE IT UP. AND FOR SURE, IF WE COULD MAKE MORE MONEY TO INVEST MORE IN THE BAND, WE WOULD MAKE MORE RECORDS, MORE TOUR AND MORE GIGS, EVEN LOCAL GIGS. WE COME FROM A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY, PLACES WHERE IT'S FUCKING HARD JUST TO BE ALIVE. COULD YOU IMAGINE HOW HARD IS TO PLAY IN A NOISECORE BAND IN A THIRD WORLD COUNTRY? YES, THAT'S TOUGH.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? PLAY LIVE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, TRY TO BE A GREAT LIVE BAND, PLAY WITH PASSION AND ENERGY AND TRY TO MAKE SOMETHING NEW. EVEN IF SOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND AT FIRST SIGHT WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO DO, KEEP TRYING AND THEN PEOPLE WILL NOTICE. THAT'S WHAT HAPPEN TO US, MANY PEOPLE JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE PLAY SO FAST AND SHORT SONGS. WHY SO LOUD, WHY SO EXTREME.. BUT THIS IS OUR WAY TO MAKE OUR OWN SONGS.
How do you get psyched for a gig? THE GIG ITSELF IS A REASON ENOUGH FOR US TO GET PSYCHED, AND THEN WE GIVE OUR BEST. I TRY TO HIT THE DRUMS AS HARD AS I CAN. THIS IS HOW I PLAY LIVE, TRYING TO HIT REALLY HARD THE DRUMS.
Do you have any new material? YES, WE HAVE OUR LATEST ALBUM WHICH IS CALLED ''DO OCO AO VAZIO'' IN A FREE TRANSLATION TO ENGLISH IT WOULD SOUND LIKE ''FROM THE HOLLOW TO THE VOID''. SINCE WE STARTED THE BAND IN 2012 WE RELEASE AT LEAST ONE ALBUM EVERY YEAR, SO THIS ONE IS OUR 7TH ALBUM.

Do you have something to add? YES, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY AND FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT. WE REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

How often and where do you reherse? Depends , if we are writing a new album and enter the studio we rehearse a lot , for gigs we hardly rehearse.

How have you developed since you started with the music? We all gre older and gt to know our instruments better and developed skills in playing, songwriting etc

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? At this moment we , and we always have done, do most of the bookings ourselves which goes well. We have a booking agency too next to that Wayland management helping us out with the business part of things.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We are signed by Into The Limelight Records and our next record we already have a deal for.
