interview with Andy King - Elvis Tribute Artist

Have any of you played in other bands? Yes and some of uns are still have other projects in other bands.

How is it that you started playing music? I was inspired by Elvis Presley movies and startet with singing and guitar lessons

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Andy King Lead Vocals, Jürgen Herb Drums, Heinz Hliza and Steffen Andres Base (they share the concerts), Ritchie Wagner Lead Guitar, Frank Söhner Piano, Norbert Maisch Piano Substitute. The age of us is a well kept secret 😉

Have you had other previous members? Not with this band

Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, I started at the age of 6

Where are you from? We alle live in Germany

What year did the band form? We started with this band in 2012

What's your style of genre? We are doing Elvis Tribute with his sings from the 50ties to the 70ties

What inspires you? The music of Elvis Presley

How often and where do you reherse? We reherse not really often because we have a lot of concerts during the year. For new song we meet for reahearsals but most of us prepare seperatly at home. For the details we meet about 2 times a months.

How have you developed since you started with the music? Well, I started music just for fun and it was a hobby at the beginning. It becam more and more professional during the years and it is my fultime job since 2012 now. I lived my dream to make the hobby to my fulltime job and are very thankful about it.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? I like to create flyers and posters but it always has to do with my band, so it’s not really outside hte band

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We are taking care for ourselves for about 99 percent. We ar in some booking agencies but still doing the most of the bookings for ourself.

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Actually not, I don’t know any label who is interested in Tribute Acts

What made you decide to make this music? First of all the inspiration and second thing is the different eras of Elvis in different styles of music like Rock’N’Roll, Blues, Gospel, Coutry, Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Rockabilly. It is amazing what he did and it will never get boring for us.

What language do you sing in? english

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Least about 30, most about 2500

What ages are most of your concert attendants? We have people from ages 16 to 90

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We vary and change our stage program every 2 years. During this time we put in some new songs.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? Yes there are many regular places we play every year

What was your first gig like? It was very exciting and I was really nervous.

What was your latest gig? Latest gig was in a small concert hall near our home, so we had a lot of friends witth us. Amazing audience

Have you had to cancel a gig? Yes we had to cancel a few during the years. It is always hard but if especially the vocal singer gets a cold it is not easy to handle that.

Where have you played live this year? In so many places all around the world. I had about 90 conerts in 2018

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? Most of the concerts are in Germany but we will also be in the UK, USA, Czech Republic and Switzerland

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? Only Audio CD

Where can people buy your merchandise? Online on all the platforms like iTunes oder amazon

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? Well that’s the way it is today. Some things are easier an quicker but I also know a lot of people still buying records.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? The music industry earns more money with it because everybody can buy a track from his phone tody. So I am not really impressed about this change. Music industry always was looking just for money. So that’s the way I excepted

What do you think of my work? Very interesting and it is good to see that you are looking for all kinds of bands and music, even Tribute acts. Thank you for that

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? I always say that a band needs to have a presence in all kinds of medias. People have to talk about a band. And every interview, every photo or commercial is helpful for a band.

What have been your biggest obstacles? Indeed my old job. I didn’t have the time for doing the music business with my old job. Everything you do as a professional needs a lot of time and work.

What advice would you give other bands or artists? First of all never lose the fun with your music. Decide and talk together what you want to reach and what are your goals. Find the members who want reach the same. Work together on it and always care about you fan base.

How do you get psyched for a gig? I prepare a few days earlier in creating the setlist. Going through all the songs. Before the gig we shake our hands and are concentrating for the event for about 2 minutes.
