interview with Taman Shud

What´s the name of your band? Taman Shud

What made you call the band "TAMAN SHUD"? It is the last line of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayam,  a Persian poem, and the name of an unsolved Australian murder case.

Good: the music.

Bad: we are hideous. Blackened psychedelic motorcycle punk.

How old are you?/What got you started in music? We are in our late teens. Acid.

What year was the band started? 2016.

Best/worst gig you've played? Best was in a sex dungeon in Peckham. There were skeletons entombed in the walls that looked like they were reaching out to grab the crowd! Worst was at a Thai restaurant in Tottenham when we were all drunk.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We are hoping to tour Eastern Europe in the autumn…

Where have you played from then till now? Pubs, dungeons, forests, cemeteries, car parks. Also an abandoned theme park in LA!!

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? Hard to say. We saw Aluk Todolo recently and they were amazing.

Is it always the same songs live? No sometimes we play new ones.

What has been the best/most promising gig so far? Best was the sex dungeon. Most promising was in an abandoned mansion in Mayfair that belongs to a Saudi oil tycoon!!!

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? We toured Brazil but Derry got trench foot so could not play and we had to cancel it halfway through.

How big crowds do you usually play for? Biggest we played was about 300 but that was with the Fat White Family who are famous. Usually around 148.

Where do you usually play? At a studio beneath a railway in Camden. It is full of deviants.

How do you get psyched up for a gig? Daisychaining.

What are your goals with your music? Create sorcerers. Control weather etc. Dominate world/universe.

When did you decide to go all in for the music? From the outset.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? The auld masters.

What are your sources of inspiration? Drugs. Magic. Monsters.

What's the first step when making a new song? Gnostic trance.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Ambivalent: downloaded music doesn’t sound as good but it is cheaper.  Please buy our albums so we will be rich.

What would be your dreams for the band? We want to be the first band to play in space!!

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Metal, black metal, death metal, doom, funeral doom, stoner metal, street punk, hardcore (no preachy shit), post-punk, noise, industrial, ‘dark ambient’, folk (none of that banjolele shit), African tribal shit, shamanic music. Too many bands to list.

What would be your greatest fears for the future? Death.

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Mistakes.

Have you been part of any other projects? Nick was in a noise band called Egyptian Death. Tasha is in a medieval surf outfit called Plantagenet 3.

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Derry = simulacrum analyst. Greg = burned effigy collector. Tasha = psychopomp. Nick = manuscript illuminator.

How important are your fans? Without them we are only as good as we think we are which may or not be that good.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? One girl got our name tattooed on her face!!  One guy followed us back to our hotel room and tried to sneak into bed with us. He was wearing dog mask!!!

Where do you rehearse? Beneath railway in Camden (see above). Also abandoned glue factory (but smells like rotten horseflesh).

Do you have any webpages? Yes: https://www.facebook.com/TAMANSHUD. https://soundcloud.com/tamanshuddd

Describe your show, visually and musically Necro-mesmerism.

How do you view the musicindurty of today? We look at it askance.

What advice would you like to give other bands? Psilocybin.

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Psycho fans with flamethrowers etc who want to burn your face off just because you won’t play their favourite song again. Rival wizards etc poisoning your drink with snake venom.  Girls/guys who just want to have sex with you and not talk about life etc.

What is best/worst with playing the clubs? Best = living it up in VIP. Worst = vampire lizards.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence We sound like volcanos and earthquakes and space disintegrating but it’s all in your head but then it turns out your head is the universe and there is lava coming out of your eyes and the lava is turning into snakes and the snakes are eating each other and their tongues turn into trees and there are hanged men hanging from the branches of the trees and in their eyes are wars between planet-sized aliens who roast each other with fire breath and who each hold a purple crystal in which is another set of universes that are made of mercury.

What is your favorite crappy instrument? French horn.

What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? Greg once broke a baseball bat over Derry’s back because he called his girlfriend a bitch! Derry kicked Greg in the face. Then Nick and Tasha piled in with chains and we forgot what we were fighting about and nearly all killed each other! Everyone was nearly dead by the end but now we like to laugh about it.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? We sacrifice a shiatsu.

Do you have anything to add? Thank you Robex for your interest and for your awesome blog. Keep ruling and we hope to see you at or show or something some time!
