interview with KARMANT

Have any of you played in other bands? Yes, actually all of us played in other bands.

How is it that you started playing music?  I basically started playing music as a co-curricular activity of mine and ended up being a professional.

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Asif Simon - Vocal (Age 24), Hasan Zamil - Guitarist (Age 24),
Rumman Sharier - Guitarist (19), Jami Hossain - Bassist+Vocal (Age 24), Jubayer Trijoy - Drummer (Age 25)

Have you had other previous members? Yes, Jami (Bassist) came up with the idea of KARMANT with it's former and founder guitarist Nibir and drummer Adnan Rashid. Unfortunately both of them left the band due to some personal issues.

Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, most of us here belongs to a musical career of almost a decade. We are basically involved with music form a very tender age. Since, one of our composition 'Greed' is nearly 8 years old.

Where are you from? We all are from Bangladesh. It's a country from South-East Asia.

What year did the band form? The band formed in February 14, 2016.

What's your style of genre? The band started as a crossover thrash/groove metal band and then a year later we decided to keep the genre only Thrash Metal.

What inspires you? We all grew up listening to metal Gods like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Pantera, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Sepultura, Metallica and many more. So, now you know from where these inspirations came from!

How often and where do you reherse? We rehearse, hangout, meet up almost everyday in our own studio.

How have you developed since you started with the music? We believe that all growth depends upon activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort and effort means work. So we worked hard and practiced since we started with the music.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Yes, apart from music we are all are students and involved with part time jobs at various creative sectors.

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? We still ain't looking for any booking agencies but we would start looking for one soon!

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Yes, we are looking for international record levels for our upcoming Extended Play (EP) 'Riot In Uniform' and Long Play (LP) 'Misanthropic Democracy' for a world wide release to spread our music and words to all!

What made you decide to make this music? We actually talk about fucked up system, hypocrisy, corruption, corrupted politics through our songs because we always consider metal as the only comfortable medium to express our thoughts.

What are your songs about? Our songs are about the fucked up system, hypocrisy, corruption, corrupted politics we are dealing in our every day life!

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Actually the band always comes up with the compositions and till now Jami (Bassist) wrote all the lyrics but we are soon having an official lyricist in our band.

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We basically start with the composition and the arrangements then Jami comes up with the lyrics and tunes.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? Yes, we prioritize the environment most in case of composing new stuffs. Because we do believe that a good environment plays a very supporting role for a mature composition.

Have you done any covers live? Obviously we did a lot of covers live in our early days. In fact covering legendary songs helped us a lot in case of building a good chemistry between us and people always appreciate a good cover of their favorite songs.

What language do you sing in? We always preferred the language 'English' in case of lyrics or singing.

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We had shows like only 30 people in front of us again we did shows like thousands of people headbanging and mosh pitting.

What ages are most of your concert attendants? Our audiences are mostly adult people with an approximation of 18-30 years old!

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We always try to present our originals live along with some demanding cover songs so yes with some variations in our track list we often do some songs over and over again considering people's choice.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? Not really, we did shows at various auditoriums and venues all over our country.

What was your first gig like? We seriously enjoyed our very first live with full rejoice.

What was your latest gig? Our latest gig was ROCK Meltdown where we performed our original 'Riot In Uniform' along with some other popular cover tracks.

Have you had to cancel a gig? Till now we ain't had to cancel any shows. It's not like we never faced any issues, yes we did but all our members and crews somehow manages things out at the very end and made every event possible. But you never know, as future always comes with uncertainty.

Where have you played live this year?  This year we performed at FCC (Friend's Conversion Center), a very popular and famous place for metal shows in Bangladesh.

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? We have a lot of plans for coming year, specially about our first
EP launching show!

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We ain't selling any merchandises by ourselves hence we talked with a third party agent about our merch and hoping for a best royalty deal with them. Till now we've just planned for T-shirts with the artwork of our EP printed on it.

Where can people buy your merchandise? People can grab the merchandises placing orders via online or physically form showrooms. We will update all the related information in our page soon.

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? I never support this downloading music thing. We work like 24/7 on producing an album or even a song and it's not just a song to us hence it's more like a representation of our hard work, brain storming, money and many more. One just can't download a song without our consent where we all know there's so many platforms to buy or legally stream a music.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? When we see people downloading songs instead of buying them it makes us sad and demoralized to come up with another piece of our work. In fact many musicians stopped doing music for such issues which is undoubtedly harmful for our music industry.

What do you think of my work?  I loved the way you're approaching musicians for interviews, thus music enthusiasts can easily update themselves with the information of their favorite band. Keep up with the good works dear.

How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business?  I personally have no idea how this interview will help our band but I really do appreciate your good approach towards us as we had a lot things to let people know and you helped us to spread our words.

Do you have any role models or idols? Of course we all have our role models and inspirations! They are the reason we are still here doing music and rocking the stage!

Why do you think that they exist? Role models exist because they show us the path we're always dreaming of. We follow our idols not to be like them, just to be another one of them someday.

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? I don't know if it's easier or not but I do think we have a lot to learn form our senior bands or the bands active most.

What have been your biggest obstacles? To me, obstacles are there to make you tough and experience. I've faced a lot of obstacles and found none of them that big to distract me form my passion. Same goes for all my other band members.

What advice would you give other bands or artists?  I'll advice other bands or junior musicians of mine that to not to loose hope. Music is a very hard thing to come up with. All you have to do is to work hard and be patient. One day all your hard works will pay off!

How do you get psyched for a gig?  First of all a gig matters a lot to us. We never compromise on anything related to our gig. We rehearse for the gig like there's no tomorrow and we always try to put our best to it!!!

Do you have any new material? Yes, we have a lot of new materials cooked. We are just rearranging them again and preparing them for our EP and LP.

What are your web sites? We don't have any web sites but we are working on it.

How can people reach? People can easily reach us through our facebook fan page. We
update all our necessary announcements, works, posts there.

What are your plans for the future? We are now planing for our EP. All the tracks are ready for recording moreover we've already done recorded a track.
