interview with Scheisse Minnelli

Have any of you played in other bands? I played bass in The Dead Smurfs and some other bands in the USA, also played bass for Oppressed Logic and Retching Red on an Eurpean Tour. Mikey played in Your Mother, The Eddie Haskells, Filthy Theiving Bastards, Swinging Utters and many more in the USA too. Dudel and Dash have also both played in Sbasstic and some other projects too. Mikey and Sam also did a tour with Brandon Cruz as Dr. Know in Europe.
How is it that you started playing music? My father is a bass player and I grew up with music all around me because of that. I fell in love with punk at an early age and started playing shows at 14 years old.
What are your names? Sam-singer, Mikey-guitar, Dash- bass, Dudel-drums
Have you had other previous members? We had a couple other guitar players but Mikey the longest. About 7.5 years now. Also had a different drummer for 2.5 years but Dudel our original is back now!
Did you make music even when you were young? We all started as teens. Mikey toured the most in his teen years though. He toured Canada, Hawaii, Isreal and the USA before he was 21!
Where are you from? Sam and Mikey from California. Dash and Dudel from Germany
What year did the band form? End of 2003. First show was a house wrecking party. We are currently working on a short documentary about it.
What's your style of genre? A mix of a lot of punk, hardcore and some prog and jazz fusion
What inspires you? Life in general and the problems the world has as whole and individuals
How have you developed since you started with the music? Yes! Our sound is similar but it was a bit more raw at the start. We have refined it and it also changed as members changed. I think evolving is so much more enjoyable than just playing the same stuff over and over!
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? Yeah. 2 of us have a t shirt printing shop: www.badpress.de We print shirts and other merch for bands and anything else that needs it. Our bass player Dash makes and repairs instruments: www.daesch-instruements.de
What are your songs about? Some are about personal experiences others about problems in the world and others us just yelling about how fucked up things are!
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We all share in the music writing. Most of the lyrics are done by me
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Each song is a bit different. On the last album I started with the chorus and then sort of worked the rest of the song around it on a few of the songs.
Have you done any covers live? Yes we have done Wasted Youth songs with the original Wasted Youth drummer and also some RKL songs with various members of RKL too. Fun to jam with other musicians that you respect!
What language do you sing in? Almost all in English
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? 5 and 5000 (at a festival)
What was your first gig like? It was crazy! like 150 people in a house. They were destroying the kitchen and throwing things out of the windows! Police came and arrested like 5 or 6 people. I escaped that night. As I said we are working on a documentary about it. We got some crazy video from it.
What was your latest gig? Last gig was in Würzburg with The Shrine from LA. We had Barry from Rich Kids on LSD playing second guitar for us. It was a blast!
Where have you played live this year? Germany, France, Belgium so far....
Where do you plan to gig the coming year? More of Europe and might head back to the USA.
Where can people buy your merchandise?
We have stuff at www.badpress.de
Records, shirts and more!
What have been your biggest obstacles? Well just working around 4 schedules is always hard. Life's priorities change as you get older. Amazing we are still doing this to be truthful.
What are your web sites? www.scheisseminnelli.com
What are your plans for the future? Hmm!  Good question. Play some shows, maybe one tour a year and do another record.
Do you have something to add? Thanks and hope to see you and anyone that reads this at a show soon!!
