interview with Avengeus

Have any of you played in other bands? Our drummer Linus Pettersson has played in many other bands for example Supreme Majesty and Wasteland Skills. Our Bass player Eirik Lund is also active with other bands outside of the Metal community.
What are your names? / Who plays what? Eirik Lund - Bass, Linus Pettersson - Drums, Mattias Svensson - Guitar, Niclas Blomberg - Vocals, William Svensson - Guitar
Have you had other previous members? We've had support on live gigs from guitarist Daniel Carlén (Former guitarist of John Bull Gang) and Victor Blomberg (former vocals of Sleepwolf)
Where are you from? Southern Sweden
What year did the band form? 2011
What's your style of genre? Heavy Metal, Progressive Metal, Melodic Metal
What inspires you? Skilled musicians and a really well performed energetic live show
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? Currently no, we have some bad experience with that and also right now the members are spread out across the world so we are not as active with live gigs as we used to be. In the future, yes definitely would be interesting to help us take it to the next level
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? We think a label could be of help to grow Avengeus fan base if it was the kind of label who actively promotes their bands outside of their Facebook reach.
What are your songs about? 9 years ago it was mainly about anger, hate, past relationships and how amazing we where as a band ;) Right now the material we write is about a frustration over the global political landscape and the dangers we face with nuclear wars, the end of the world and imminent destruction lurking around the corner.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We all help with writing the music and the vocals, lyrics are mainly written by Niclas but as we said, we all help with every part of the process.
Do you compose in a certain environment? In our rehearsal room mainly, but being spread out across the world as we currently are we have learned how to write and compose music using home studios and internet etc
Have you done any covers live? At a couple of occasions, we struggle to agree on covers as we listen to so different kind of music, we have done Enter Sandman a couple of times at smaller gigs and Paradise City once.
What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? We have done gigs with as few as 5 people in the audience (including the bartender and staff) and our biggest audience is probably slightly below 1000 people. We give it all in every occasion regardless of the size of the audience.
What ages are most of your concert attendants? 18-50
Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We have a few favorites but we make an individual set list for all gigs depending on the time we have to play.
Do you have a regular place you play live often? Our most played venue and also a favorite of ours would be Helgeåfestivalen outside of Kristianstad. Brilliant festival, well organised and a really nice feel to it with good staff and everything you can wish for as a band.
What was your first gig like? Small and sweaty, probably 40 people in the audience, everyone was seated in the venue and it was the first time on stage for a few of the band members. We had a blast though, recorded it all on video and realized we had a few things to work on if we wanted to be a professional act
What was your latest gig? A charity gig in Kristianstad in April 2017 together with Unsolved and Dimmz
Where have you played live this year? no gigs so far this year, we hope do do one or two this summer
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We started so sell our first Avengeus EPs, then T-shirts probably back in 2013, we still have a few albums to sell of our debut full length album New Beginning from 2016
Where can people buy your merchandise? Send a message on our facebook.com/avengeus messenger
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? That the music industry will have to come up with cleaver solutions to be able to offer new high quality music without the traditional revenues from records. All our music is available for free listening online, we want more fans. To make money we sell merchandise and do gigs.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? More revenue is coming through streaming platform and digitization forces new ways of thinking around how we consume music.
What do you think of my work?  We think it's needed and helpful for people to discover new music and less known bands
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? To be mentioned online in blogs, playlists etc is necessary to find new people who listen to your music.
Do you have any role models or idols? Not as a band, we have far to wide music taste to be able to narrow it down to someone we have in common.
Why do you think that they exist?  All role models and Idols have made a different in someones life and therefore they keep them close and follows them. what difference they have made is unique to the person.
Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? We find inspiration in everything we listen to, both new and old. What we are weary of is what we call the more main stream radio metal that we do get a bit tired of from time to time.
What have been your biggest obstacles?
1. To keep on playing small venues before we got better gigs and more audience shows up
2. To keep the band together, happy and playing now that we are spread out across the world.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? Make sure you are surrounded by good people you trust. Realize that even though you share a goal with the band everybody also have lives outside of the band and that you are ready to compromise for the sake of the band.
Do you have any new material? Yes! we just released our new single The Bomb. it's written from the perspective of a Nuclear bomb that's about to be launched because some of the presidents and dictators in the world seems to be a bit trigger happy at the moment.
What are your web sites? www.avengeus.com and facebook.com/avengeus
Do you have something to add? We plan to continue to release new music and hopefully we can also get back out and do some gigs this year!
