interview with FleshTorn

What is the name of your band? FleshTorn
What does the name "FleshTorn" stand for? It stands for flesh getting ripped apart, its pretty self explanatory haha.
What made you call the band "FleshTorn"? Well I wanted to find a good brutal sounding name to fit the music I play.  i wanted it to be a name that when you hear it, you know that its going to be extreme music.
How was the band formed? Fleshtorn was formed a year ago. I couldn't find a drummer, bassist, or rhythm guitarist close to where I lived, so i just decided to do things myself and start a one man death metal band, which eventually ended up being called FleshTorn.
Can you briefly introduce your band and who you are? Fleshtorn is an old school one man death metal band.
Where are all bandmembers from?/Who does what in the band? Im the only member, my name is Brannan Hayes, I play guitar, growl, program the drums, write all the music and do everything else.
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? When I started I wanted just to be brutal and violent, now things have changed and im planning on taking things to a more psychological level
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? If you like old-school death metal like Cannibal corpse, Morbid Angel, Death, Grave, Monstrosity, Vomitory, Bloodbath, Dyingfetus and other simular bands, then you will definitely like FleshTorn. At the moment i only have my old songs up, but when i put out this new album, it will sound very oldschool, very extreme, very brutal.
Who writes your songs?/ who writes the music who writes lyrics? write all my lyrics and music
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? Flesh Torn is Pure old school death metal. the bad thing is that my album is still being written, and you don't get to hear it yet..  but in general i like FleshTorn and the sound it has. The only bad thing is that Im 15 and people take me for granted, because they judge me by my age, haha so some people don't take me seriosly.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? I picked this genre of music because it takes away boundries of what you can and cannot play, and it just is a good release. Theres no better feeling than playing death metal. recently i decided I'm going to create an album, its name being the name of  an alien planet, and each song is going to deal with different situations having to do with 2 or more alien creatures that metaphorically  represent human nature. For example, one could be about a predator devouring its prey, sucking its entrails out, but in a way that could represent  human being interactions, representing in a deeper level things we go through daily.  Its all going to be violent gory, and brutal. I'm in the process of writing the songs for the album now, its going to be awesome. Its something no other band has done before, but for now my only music up is my old stuff before I got this idea haha
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Ive always written my own material.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? i made a demo called human scraps, but that was just to start me out and get used to  my sound, now im going to make a new album with a much better sound, with much more structured songs, and its going to be a huge improvement.
Do you have any clips on YouTube? yes my favorite song from the human scraps demo, homicidal somnambulism. haha the drum software was crappy on human scraps, im using a new, and improved drum software now.
How old are you? What got you started in music? im 15, ive always been into music, its always been what i loved
At what age did you start playing? 9 years old
What year was the band started? 2012
How old were you the first time you saw a liveband play? 10
What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? Places in North Carolina for sure, im hoping to play live for the first time after i finish this album.
What are the plans for the rest of the year? Work on my new album
What are your goals with your music? To make music that i can enjoy, and others can enjoy. To get known in the death metal scene.
When did you decide to go all in for the music? lack of braincells
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? i get alot of my inspiration from older death metal bands.
What are your sources of inspiration? watching other bands play live makes me extremely motivated.
What's the first step when making a new song? It depends, usually i write the guitar riffs first, but sometimes i write the vocals first. It happens different ways.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? BUY THE ALBUMS
What would be your dreams for the band? To play live, to tour, just to get known.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Again i listen to many bands. Fleshgod apocalypse, cannibal corpse, hypocrisy, morbid angel, grave, death, bolt thrower, behemoth, bloodbath, monstrosity, vomitory, decapitated, incantation, CARCASS, Dethklok, Amon Amarth, Six feet under, nile, i could go on forever
What do you hold most dear? My girlfreind, and my education, AND KEEPING METAL ALIVE.
What would be your greatest fears for the future? Have no fears for FleshTorn, there is nothing to fear. I dont care what others think, i enjoy it, so im going for it.
What songs and what years were they released? haha well these are the only songs i have out from human scraps, and they are not structured that well, im much better now, but
Perverse pleasure
natural born sadist
branded
Homicidal somnambulism
all put out 2012.
Have you been part of any other projects? haha no, because i have alot going on.
What do you work with outside of the band and the music? i definitely want to be an audio engineer when i graduate college but thats not for a while
How important are your fans? VERY,  haha if its not for fans, you dont get known, you cant have concerts, and it just would suck without them.
How often do you rehearse? Every day at minumum 30 minutes at most 4 hours
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? homicidal somnambulism, but i REALLY like the one im writing for my new album right now.
What do you feel is the best liveband you've seen? Cannibal Corpse.
What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? well usually band members have side jobs, you cant really make that much of a living of of death metal, but they keep going because they love the music, its something they believe in and love.
Do you have any webpages? I have my band page on facebook.
Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? i have no wisdom, the first step of wisdom is admitting you are not wise, that is how you improve in music. always assume there is someone that knows more.
Would you like to add anything else? Describe your show, visually and musically
How do you view the musicindurty of today? a disappointment to the human race
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? having side jobs, school, and having a life. those are giant obstacles.
What do you feel a band/muscian should spend their money on? needs not wants.  you need all the money you can get for equipment.
