interview with Prions

What´s the name of your band? Prions

What made you call the band "Prions"? Every subculture has a way on seeping into the most normal of homes or societies so a disease that attacks normal prion proteins in the brain seemed appropriate.

How was the band formed? Craigslist.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We're all from various cities in Texas. Erik shreds guitars, Joe lays the fuzzy bass, Caleb is the throat of fury, and Ram pounds the drums.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Our goal is to write a lot of good albums and play them for the world

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? High Energy D-beat Metal Punk

Where was your first gig? A punk house in San Antonio. Surprised the walls were still up shit got crazy.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? We all contribute to the song writing, musically and lyrically. It starts with someone's idea and then we take it from there. However the majority of the lyrics are written by Caleb.

Who has the best sense of humor in the band? Joe

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? Good thing is we're a new hungry Punk band, bad thing is not a lot of people have heard us.

What are your songs about? The good and bad side of money, love, and country.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We write and play our own songs. The only cover is a World Burns To Death song that we've played it twice.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We have an EP  titled The Infected.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes, here's our youtube link, subscribe and share! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7PyOQt74oAHriEzYFMahtw

How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? Late teens and early 20's

What year was the band started? It's complicated but let's go with January 2013

Best/worst gig you've played? Too soon to tell.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? Your hometown and it's surrounding countries. I kid, but one day you never know! We want to go West towards California and out East towards Louisiana and maybe Tulsa, OK.

Where have you played from then till now? Cool places but nothing worth mentioning

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? Power Trip and Trash Talk

Is it always the same songs live? No, we've been writing new songs and dropping old ones for a while now.

What has been the best/most promising gig so far? So far, getting asked to open up for Bad Religion in San Antonio, but Caleb was hard at work and couldn't get out of work.

How big crowds do you usually play for? Anywhere from five people to a packed house.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? Finish writing our full length album, two splits, and play more out state shows.

Where do you usually play? Venues or clubs.

What are your goals with your music? Conquer the world!

What are your sources of inspiration? Our own daily experiences, our surroundings, upbringing, and the ever faulty ways our world has been handled.

What's the first step when making a new song? Usually starts with Erik playing a riff and we all of us jump in and write as we go.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? We don't mind it's exposure either way and that's what we want. Honestly no one really makes money off record sales. I'd be more upset if they didn't share it with a few friends. Not sharing it is the true crime.

What would be your dreams for the band? Great tours, great albums, and great fans.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to?Besides D-beat Punk we like Link Wray, Temptations, The Melvins, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Redding, Metal, Hardcore, so on and on.

What do you hold most dear? Ambition and physical ability to play our instruments.

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Fucking up not delivering properly.

Have you been in any other bands? Concrete (Street Punk Oi!), Black (a Black Flag tribute band), The Bulemics and The 13th Victim.

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? I'm a medical assistant, Erik is a student at Texas University, Caleb is a server and Joe builds and fixes stuff.

What would you do if there was no music? Clinically diagnosed as insane , locked up or maybe even dead.

How important are your fans? Without fans your band goes nowhere and if your band sucks they'll be the first to tell you so VERY important.

How often do you rehearse? We try to do twice a week, but on average once a week.

Where do you rehearse? In Ram's garage.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Deceiver and Sleeper

Describe your show, visually and musically High energy, stimulating, raw punk

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? For us mainly it's our jobs.

What is best/worst with playing the clubs? 21 and up venues suck, venues with proper sound equipment are the best.

Tell us about your latest gig and why we should've been at them? We're played April 10 in Austin, TX with Car 87 Canadian Hardcore Punk. How else will you get to hear and experience the raw energy d-beat punk!?

How would you describe your sound in one sentence Hard hitting high energy punk metal.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? Stretching, warm up, and humming The Lion King theme song (not really but Caleb's vocal warm up sounds like it).

Do you have anything to add? Bands, promoters, venues and fans add us on facebook for future collaborations. Thanks for your time and consideration. Spread the disease!  https://www.facebook.com/PrionsATX
