interview with Ulcera

What´s the name of your band? Ulcera.

How was the band formed? because of the beer or just by coincidence (none of us can remember well) we were involved in some issues together, and by a stroke of luck got some musical instruments and a stack full of money, none of us knew how to play, but as we had to much free time and lots money of our lucky moment, we decided to form a band. as we never want to get catch again we live as outlaws.

Can you tell about your band? We play fast and angry punk rock, and we drink loots of beer.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? Buenos aires, Argentina.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Playing the music that we like and love.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? beer + wiskey + punk + 4 jerks = Ulcera

Where was your first gig? It was 19 of july this year at Melonio the best bassment to play punk rock un buenos aires, with Velocidad 22, Muerto en pogo and los palerms.

Where was the latest gig? Its was last friday in La cultura del barrio a beautiful cultural center located in Villa Crespo neighborhood, with Angola!

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Diente writes all the lyrics and also do all the band's artwork, Mauro writes most of the songs, Diego writes the hits, and Ariel creates our high energy drum tracks.

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? We drink too much before, during and after our shows and rehearsals, that’s good and bad at the same time.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? As a new band here in Argentina fortunately we can say that we survive without playing covers! 

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We released two Ep This year,  EP I and EP II, the second goes on sale this week. They were recorded live, mixed and mastered at rec Studios, by our friend and Guru, Jose Soto AKA Uguito.

To record this songs we use: half a bottle of johhny walker gold label, 12 bottles of heineken, 2 pizzas, 2 valve guitars amp, 2 guitars, 1 bass, one ampeg refrigerator, a really kicking ass drum kit and and a lot of cool sounding old mics. thanks for the dedication and the magic Uguito!

What year was the band started? 2014

Is it always the same songs live? no, we constantly add new songs to our sets, our first show we play 15 minutes, and the las we play like 30 minutes.

What has been the best/most promising gig so far? The one that we all play 100% sober, once in a lifetime thing....

How big crowds do you usually play for? 30 people and a couple of aliens.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? play as much as we can, and write as much new songs as we can, making our first video, and maybe records some songs.

Where do you usually play? In Buenos Aires and surrounding areas, but we're eager to explore the country and why not, the rest of the world playing our music.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? from older bands, for sure! you have to go to the roots to get the good stuff! 

What are your sources of inspiration? Life and punk rock!

What would be your dreams for the band? Never have to work again. 

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? We are smugglers and bank robbers, haha just kidding, for personal reasons we prefer not to give this information.

How often do you rehearse? Once a week! 

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? 5am, Manija!

What do you feel is the best live band you've seen?

Ramones and Motorhead!

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing?

We don’t know, we just want to play as much as we can and get wasted, we don't care about money and thinks like that!

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there?

Don’t pay to play! (message for Argentinian bands.

Describe your show, visually and musically Fast and loud.

What advice would you like to give other bands? Let’s talk, more rock! 

How would you describe your sound in one sentence high energy punk rock.

What is your favorite crappy instrument? A 1999 korean Sammick SG and a 1900s Luger pistol.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? Eat some pizza, drink lots of beer and and many other things that we can not reveal.

What would be your greatest fears for the future? that the world runs out of beer. 

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? hangovers , managers and loudmouths.

Where do you rehearse? we usually rehearse in our barracks, for legal issues we can not tell you much about it, but it is a beautiful and creepy at the same time, we live and do all our business there.

What would you do if there was no music? We will invent it!
