interview with No Zodiac

What´s the name of your band? The name of the Band is No Zodiac.

How was the band formed? The band was formed as a project for fun in early 2009 with myself (Erik), and

three other friends that are no longer part of the band.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?

Connor does Vocals and is from Wisconsin.

Erik plays Drums and is From Chicago

Chris plays guitar and is from Wisconsin but currently lives in Illinois

Grubby plays Bass and is from Indiana but currently lives in Chicago.

Felker plays guitar and Is from a suburb of Chicago

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? We just wanted to have fun. We were never really serious about it until recently when we had opportunites to start touring and doing something with the band.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Our music is like getting repeatedly hit in the head with a sledge hammer.  HEAVY! Just kidding. We have a lot of influence from old school metal as well as a lot of older and current death metal. We try to keep it as heavy as possible.

Where was your first gig? Our first gig was at Cisa studios in Indiana.

Where was the latest gig? Our latest one was at the Showcase in Racine Wisconsin

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? The writing of the music is a collaboration between all of us. Someone will come up with a riff, and we all keep building off of that. The lyrics are all up to Connor. We check them when hes done and tweak something if need be.

Who has the best sense of humor in the band? Best sense of humor....not sure. Weirdest sense of humor definitely goes to Connor. if you ever meet him you will understand.

What genre do you feel you are? We don't really write our songs with a certain genre in mind........but

if we would have to pick, it would be metal/deathmetal with hardcore influence.

Why did you pick that particular style? This particular style is what influences us mainly to play music and is what we love.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? All of our own material

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?

Yes. We released our debut full length last year on seventh dagger records. It was Called "Population Control".

We also just finished writing our next album that will be out within the next few weeks called "Eternal Misery"

What year was the band started? Early 2009

Best/worst gig you've played?

Best gig we have played was the last time we played at Alladin Jr's in Pomona, CA with our boys in Nasty.

Worst gig was on our first tour. It was in Alabama and there was a total of six people.

What places will you be playing in in the future? We will be all over Europe in August. Check our facebook for more info!!

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? Nasty from Germany is the tightest and best band ever. Period.

How big crowds do you usually play for? It can range from 50 to 1000 or more.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? Promote this new record as much as possible and get on the road!

What are your goals with your music? To take this band as far as we can and to do as much as possible.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Definitely easier to get inspiration from the older bands.

What's the first step when making a new song? The first step towards making a new song is always an idea from someone. Then we build on that idea as a group to ultimately complete a new song.

What would be your dreams for the band? A dream we all share in the band would be to ultimately sign to a major label and tour as much as possible.

What would be your greatest fears for the future? A huge fear that the band shares, is that one day something happens to where we are no longer capable of doing music.

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? No fears on stage, just pure energy and adrenaline. There is no better feeling than being on stage and playing in front of people.

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Personally outside of the band i am a licensed barber and cut hair all day.

What would you do if there was no music? Would focus 100 percent on my career

How important are your fans? If there were no more fans, there would be any music. The fans are literally the most important part of music.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? A fan once threw a double sided dildo on stage in Paris. That was hilarious. Other than that, there are many No Zodiac fan tattoos.

How often do you rehearse? Once or twice a week.

Where do you rehearse? We rent out a room in a motorcycle clubhouse.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Two of our new songs "Eternal Misery", and "King of Scorn".

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? The biggest drive for younger musicians is that feeling you get when you're on stage. It's addicting like a drug. Finally getting recognition for all you hard work is one of the best feelings in the world, and once you get a taste you just want
more and more.

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? NEVER! EVER! GET AN EGO!!! If you're rude to your fans you don't deserve thier time. Also keep patient. Things don't happen overnight. You need to start at the bottom.

Would you like to add anything else? Learn how to play your damn instrument!!!!

How do you view the musicindurty of today? The mainstream music industry is completely garbage these days. Nobody writes their own music and everthing is fake. Good musicians have a hard time actually getting notoriety. MTV ruined music haha.

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Communication. Trust. Reliability.
Whats your Pre-show ritual? Sacrifice a baby goat, bathe in its blood and summon satan.
Do you have anything to add? Do not take any bands for granted. Go to local shows, book bands, and take care of them. Keep your scene alive.
