interview with Thy Apokalypse
How was the band formed? In 2005, I started to make music using computer softwares and I wanted to create something. After testing for some months, I formed the band during summer of the same year.
Can you tell about your band? Thy Apokalypse is a mix of black metal, electro-industrial and experimental music. About the lyrics : currently I'm developing my philosophical conception of chaos and reality. The lyrics are influenced by sci-fi and eschatologic thematics. In the past, wars and hatred of mankind led me to build the lyrics, and to create the music, of course.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? Adunakhor Z., me, is the only man who runs this project. I compose the music and I produce it (recording, mixing and mastering). I play guitars, bass, vocals essentially, and I program the others instruments via music softwares. After that, I mix and I master the whole stuff. I make my own artworks and I do the promotion of my albums (I work with Chabane's Records, a french net-label, who have released the last three Thy Apokalypse's productions).
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Basically, I just wanted to make black metal music.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Thy Apokalypse is some noise which magically becomes music. I like violent music and I try to make my music like that with blast beats on the drums, techno beats, harsh vocals and walls of guitars. But my music can be atmospheric and slow too.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Yes, two albums for the moment : « Fragment Premier (Vision of Apokalypse)» released in September 2009 and « Fragment Second (Vision du Chaos) » released in June 2013. Currently, I'm working on a new album. There's also a demo «Funeral Shrine » released in 2006, a split cd with the swedish black metal band Industrial Estate in 2009 and an experimental EP called « Wyrd » in 2011. This EP is based on the futhark, it's the runes in sound.

How old are you?/What got you started in music? I'm 26. I follow my way and the music became important to me. I've realized that making music it's more unusual that I thought. All human beings listen to music but only the hazard and the necessity may drive someone to make music.
What are the plans for the rest of the year? I must finish my upcoming Thy Apokalypse full-length album and after that, I will try to continue my other project, Salaman Isku.
What are your goals with your music? I'm always searching an artistic way to express a certain feeling about life and things which surround us. My music is one of these ways. I'm working a lot to be able to express this feeling the nearest to what it really is.
What are your sources of inspiration? I'm inspired by sci-fi novels, especially the Philip K. Dick's novels, and by many scientists books. Of course, black metal music inspires me.
What's the first step when making a new song? As I work with my own material, when I start a new song, I record what I have in mind on the computer with one of my instruments (with the guitar most of the time). After that, I build something around the guitar riff, or not.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? That's not a problem for me. Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Well, I listen to various genres and bands. To be short, this year, I've listened a lot Casualties of Cool (the new Devin Townsend's band, country-rock), Jess and The Ancient Ones (finnish occult rock), Iron Maiden (the first album) and the new album of Hanggai (chinese folk/rock), Tengger Cavalry (chinese folk metal), Infestum (black metal from Belarus), Skogen (black metal from Sweden) and Behemoth.
Have you been part of any other projects? Yes, I have an other music project called “Salaman Isku” (“lightning” in finnish). I started this band last year and an eponym EP released in October 2013. For the moment, it's an instrumental band who mixes rock, folk, atmospheric/ambiant music and metal (a little). The project is too young to have a defined genre.
