interview with humanart

What´s the name of your band? humanart

How was the band formed? In 1998 five metal kids with an average age of 17 years old gathered to give birth to a Black metal band in Santo Tirso(near Oporto, North of Portugal).

Can you tell about your band? Since the early formation several things evolved and I (JJ) am the only founder who is still in it so my mission has allways been take what we did and make it reach higher levels.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? Everybody lives in Santo Tirso or near (15/20km). JJ on Lead Guitar, Fareal on Rhythm Guitar, Ram on Bass, Izmit on Drums and Sathronus as the Vocalist.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Just just write good songs that mirror our beliefs and doubts, play and enjoy our favorite music style.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Blackmetal with traditional roots but with a very own diversity.

Where was your first gig? Our first gig was in an old rock/metal bar in our hometown.

Where was the latest gig? Hard Club in Oporto opening the mighty INQUISITION(USA).

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Usually I bring the base of a song where everybody works on until it is complete. Some of the lyrics are written by Sathronus and me and some are made by us all jamming with words and thoughts.

What genre do you feel you are? Humanart plays only Black metal with subtle strokes of other extreme styles.

What are your songs about? Our songs are about misanthropy, nonconformity, hate for religion and Human behavior.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? In these 16 years we only played live two covers: “Woman of Dark Desires” (Bathory) and “Bloody, Fucking, Nekro, Hell” (Carpathian Forest)

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Only our last work “Lightbringer” (2014) was conceived as an album, prior to that we have MCD`s and a Tape.

Do you have any clips on YouTube? We are working in our first videoclip but you can check our youtube channel to watch some live footage (https://www.youtube.com/HumanartBand).

How old are you?/What got you started in music? 35. The Human ability of expressing itself  through Art, an unholy one!

At what age did you start playing? Maybe 16 years old.

What year was the band started? 1998.

Best/worst gig you've played? The best was with Moonspell (Maiact) with a full arena with a 4000 crowd, the worst was some of the ones we did in the beginning in bars with no familiarity to metal.

What places will you be playing in the immediate future? Only metal festivals and special gigs with bands we respect.

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? I can`t refer only one as I remember a few like: Marduk (with Legion), Watain, Immortal, Dark Funeral, Carpathian Forest, Satyricon, Slayer, etc...

Is it always the same songs live? We rotate the set from time to time and get old songs mixed with new ones.

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? No tours, only regular gigs in Portugal and Spain.

How big crowds do you usually play for? It has been from 20 to 4000.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? We are from a time where people love to have the physical form of their favorite band`s work, so we are totally into buying Cd`s and Vinyl, I don`t care if people download an album but if they like it they should buy it and with it also support the artists.

What would be your dreams for the band? Work in it full time and play with our favorite bands.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? All kind of extreme metal and rock from the 80/90`s.

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Fear of being too drunk to play properly.

Do you have any webpages?

How do you view the music industry of today? Only respect if it evolves metal fans with integrity, I am tired of greedy and fake Show Producers, Festival Owners, Magazines and idiots disguised as metal fans.

What advice would you like to give other bands? Work hard and don’t let the music industry prostitute you, others gain with your effort if you let that happen.

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Fake metal scenes.

What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? Sometimes after releasing a new work some people just can`t deal with the pressure of it.

What`s your Pre-show ritual?Just party before the show(during and after too).

Do you have anything to add? Keep supporting Black metal and listening to good music, check Humanart.
