interview with Innsmouth

What´s the name of your band? We are called “Innsmouth”.
How was the band formed? Thor and me, Kim, talked about starting a black metal band back in 2006, but nothing happened until late 2012.
We met at a local show, during a snowy winter night, once again talked about forming a black metal band, and quickly after, we’d talked to a couple of our mutual friends and Innsmouth was born.
Can you tell about your band? We started out as a black metal project, but it wasn’t really our thing, so it slowly took shape as technical death metal instead.
Innsmouth was also originally founded under another name.
Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?
All of us are from “Udkantsdanmark”, but all three of us is currently living in Aarhus.
The members are:
Thor “Krieg” Sejersen Riis - Guitar
Martin “Der Mönch” Much Christensen - Bass
Kim “Dvergur” Brandhøj - Vocals
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? To play metal, that we would be proud of.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? It’s for fans of shredding guitar solos, brutal vocals and dark and eerie music.
Where was your first gig?
We haven’t played live, and have no plans on doing it, as it is right now.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Thor is the main composer of both music and lyrics, but both Martin and me contribute with some stuff as well.
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? Technical death metal.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? It just sort of happened, as mentioned earlier.
Our songs is based on LoveCraft’s stories, and whatever we sort of feel like, as long as it have the right vibe.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Only our own material.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? We recently released our debut album “The Shadow Over Innsmouth” through Crime Records.
Do you have any clips on YouTube?
We’ve got the single for our album, “The Shadow over Innsmouth”, and a video containing samples of the entire album.

How old are you?/What got you started in music? We are in the mid 20’s all of us, and for me, the Illdisposed album “There’s something Rotten…” got me really into death metal.
At what age did you start playing? I guess I tried to growl, when I was about 16 years old.
How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? Hmm, when I was about 17 I think.

What year was the band started? In 2012.
Witch band is the best you´ve seen? It’s hard to choose one, but i saw Taake a couple of months ago, and that was fucking awesome!
What are the plans for the rest of the year? We’re in the making of a new album.
What are your goals with your music? To make honest music, that’ll make us proud.
Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? It doesn’t really matter for me.
What are your sources of inspiration? Everyday things.
How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? As a musician trying to sell my bands album, I of course don’t support illegal downloads of album.
What would be your dreams for the band? That a lot of people will be buying our album, so we can keep releasing new, and brutal assaults against humanity!
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? I listen mostly to death metal and black metal, bands like Taake, Behemoth, Angantyr and Illdisposed..
What do you hold most dear? Beside my family and such, it may be my Nintendo Snes, and my cat Thrym.
What songs and what years were they released? The entire album “The Shadow over Innsmouth” was released the 10th of October 2014.
Have you been in any other bands? Yeah, I was the vocalist in a band called Hear the Fear way back, and some other random band.
What would you do if there was no music? Pretty much the same as i’m doing now, just without music.
How important are your fans? They are, of course, important too us. We are glad for every one of them!
How often do you rehearse? We don’t. We’re a studio band only at the moment.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Dreams of Slowly Drowning and Vomiting A Hole In the Soul.
What do you feel is the best live band you've seen? Taake, Behemoth or Judas Priest.
What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? For us, our label, Crime Records have been a HUGE force in both inspiring us, but also in promoting us and believing in us.
Do you have any webpages? http://www.facebook.com/frostkoldmetal
Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? Believe in yourself, and don’t give up!
How would you describe your sound in one sentence It’s brutal, fast and technical!
Do you have anything to add?Thank you for doing the interview with us! Thanks to everyone who bought our album, Crime Records, Martin Steene and of course, Cthulhu Fhtagn!
