interview with Knife Killer

What´s the name of your band? The name of the band is Knife Killer

How was the band formed? The band started in early 2005, just one guitar and drums, we just wanted to do some extreme music In old shool style (german thrash metal style mostly). Then we looked for some bass and another guitar. A couple of months after that we felt the band was complete and went to the studio for recording our first demo (thrash is alive) 5 original tracks and our version of destruction’s total desaster

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?

We are from Cali, Colombia in south America. Right now we are trying a new lineup

Sergio – Drums

Nelson – Vocals and bass

Felipe – Guitars and backing vocals

What was the ambitions of the band when you started?  At the beginning there were no serious ambitions. We just wanted to play and destroy

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Our music is basically thrash speed metal, you can say our sound is like old Sodom, destruction or kreator. Fast guitar riffs, an unstoppable snare and blasting double bass drum, thrashing voices with some guttural backings. Speed combined with some of those riffs that make you bang your head

Where was your first gig? As is logical, our first gig was in our city, some local bands. Actually it was some kind of playoff for a bigger concert, and we were selected. Sadly the major gig never happened

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Writing the music is a process we make together. I mean, when a new idea comes up all of us  provide the necessary to make it a full new topic. Sometimes it comes from guitars or some lyrics. All the music and lyrics in thrash is alive demo were written by manuel, original member

Who has the best since of humor in the band? Always is nelson (bass). Never is going to be lack of laugh when he is on rehearsal or stage. Stupid jokes or whatever.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? Thrash speed metal is the sound we like the most, of course we like so many bands, not only thrash, indeed I like heavy metal so much, and death metal. Thrash speed metal is kind of the right feeling for being on stage.  / our songs are basically made of concepts of war, modern issues, corruption, some fantasy and of course thrashing all aroud. South America is the place that provides you sick ideas from the news every day

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? In our show, 90%  is our own music, we play no more than 2 covers

At what age did you start playing? I started playing guitar at age 15, now i´m 30 years old.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? We are just finishing some new stuff.  For 2015 we hope everything be ready for recording and of course go out and play. Live is everything for us

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? I think the inspiration is something very different for everyone, we listen to the classic bands, we have spent so much years going to the shows, listening to their music and that’s where the sounds come from, but I like a lot of new bands also.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Downloading music is something you can’t avoid, actually I think there’s something good in it. A lot of bands doesn’t have a label distributing their music, so the only choise they have (including us) is upload their music and selfpromoting. Of course, this won’t work  if you start a band looking for making money or becoming a famous rockstar

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? When we’re on stage is because we are 100% ready for the show, no fear in going up and destroy. But, shit happens, some technical issues or whatever can give you a headache. Attitude is the most important thing when you are about to play. No fear

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Insane ghost, thrash is alive

What do you feel is the best live band you've seen? AC/DC

Do you have any webpages? Facebook.com/knifekiller

Whats your Pre-show ritual? Just relaxing, drinking some beers and feel the energy
