What´s the name of your band? Mummlox

Where are all band members from? All of us are from Büdelsdorf, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, or the surrounding area

Who does what in the band? Schub – Vocals Captain – Bass Easy – Guitar El Ray – Guitar Yussuf - Drums

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? Make music, save and develop 80’s Bay Area Thrash

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Fast, energetic, straight to the face, with brutal vocals

Where was your first gig? Büdelsdorf

Where was the latest gig? Rendsburg

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Ideas for the music usually come from Easy & El Ray (the guitarists), most of the lyrics are written by Yussuf & Captain. We work it out together until the final version is agreed.

Who has the best sense of humor in the band? None of us – we are sooooo evil, haha

What's good/bad with the band?

Good: We’re in a family of great people, not just the band members but also the people around us and other bands.

Bad: We don’t play enough live gigs.

What genre do you feel you are? Old school Death/Thrash Metal – we call it Canal Area Thrash, which is derived from Bay Area Thrash (we live near the Kiel Canal).

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? It’s our way to channel certain kinds of energy, aggression, emotions in a creative way. There are various topics we cover in our songs. Usually the author’s real intention is hidden between the lines. Most frequently it’s about life, the human mind and things that go wrong

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We mainly write our own stuff but there are always some covers in our playlist

Have you made any albums? Yes – MLX (1997) and Enter the Area (2007)

How old are you? Most of us are in their 40s, except for El Ray, who is still under 30

What got you started in music? Must have been some divine spark

At what age did you start playing? Varies, the band is more than 20 years old now, some of us were in other bands before (see www.mummlox.com for more info)

What year was the band started? 1992

Best/worst gig you've played? No real faves

What places will you be playing in in the immediate future? Rendsburg

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? We’ve seen countless great bands

Is it always the same songs live? We haven’t played live so often during the last few years, but we made a few new songs, so it’s not always the same

What has been the most promising gig so far? Wacken Open Air 1997

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? no

How big crowds do you usually play for? Up to 500 people

What are the plans for the rest of the year? One gig, preparation for studio recordings 2015

How do you get psyched up for a gig? We’re always motivated

What are your goals with your music? Having fun & being creative

When did you decide to go all in for the music? It has always been clear that it is just a hobby

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Older bands but also new old school bands

What are your sources of inspiration? Movies, books, newspapers, everyday life for the lyrics, other bands for the music

What's the first step when making a new song? Usually our guitarists come up with ideas and we work them out together

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? CDs are fine for listening at home/in the car, download versions are fine for mobile use on MP3 players and smartphones 

What would be your dreams for the band? Playing more live gigs

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Rock, punk, hardcore

What do you hold most dear? Friendship

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? We are usually quite relaxed

Have you been part of any other projects? Not during the last few years

Have you been in any other bands? Yes (see band profile at www.mummlox.com)

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Translator, paramedic, metal worker, student, carpenter

What would you do if there was no music? Invent it

How important are your fans? They support us and they are also some kind of quality indicator for what we do, therefore they are essential to us. What would we be without them?

What's the most memorable thing a fan has done for you? Recently a fan who was fatally ill asked us to play a special show so he could see us once again before his death. To our great regret, he left this world far too early.

How often do you rehearse? We try to rehearse once a week

Where do you rehearse? In a rebuilt shed on a farm

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Pit of Death, Pig Face

What do you feel is the best live band you've seen? This is difficult … there are tons of them

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? We don’t try to earn big money with our music. It’s only a hobby for us by which we can express ourselves and channel our energies in a creative way.

How do you view the music industry of today? A multi-levelled world of opportunities for those who are keen enough and persevering, but also full of traps and challenges

Tell us about upcoming gigs and why we should be at them? Rendsburg Bullentempel Oct. 25 – go there if you want to see us, we don’t play live very often
