interview with immoral majority

What is the name of your band? immoral majority.

What does the name "Immoral Majority" stand for? its just a joke about people who try and be all PC all the time. they're really the immoral ones.

What made you call the band "Immoral Majority"? i didn't wanna think too hard about it, its the first thing i came up with that wasn't worse that that.

How was the band formed? my other band Crime Machine wasn't able to play a show we booked, so i put together some friends from school i already intended on starting a band with, and to make a long story short…we just kept playing.

Can you briefly introduce your band and who you are? skinnee-guitar/drums/vocals, izzakate-vocals, john lichtenberg-drums/guitar/vocals, lizzie adelsheim-bass, rachel berringer-bass, nick wilson-guitar vocals

Where are all bandmembers from? portland oregon, but all of us were not born here.

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? to have fun paling fast, loud music, in as many places as possible.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? fast, loud, short songs. listen for yourself.

Where was your first gig? slabtown in portland oregon

Where was the latest gig? my house

Who has the best sense of humor in the band? we're all pretty hilarious hahahahaha

What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? im not really sure whats bad. we love to play music together. we're kind of "grind-violence/hardcore/punk" or something.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? because we love it. most of our songs are about personal issues or things that have happened to us, or other people. a lot of social issues and personal issues. playing music helps us deal with those issues or spread awareness about them.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? we write our own. sometimes we blatantly steal a riff to pay tribute to another band or even make fun of them…but its obvious enough that we aren't trying to pass it off as ours.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? we have two tapes out. "Cut Your Loses" on truth decay tapes, and a self released called "exist to get pissed"

Do you have any clips on YouTube? yes. randomly uploaded by people in the crowd and some we posted. searching our name will take you to most if not all of them.

How old are you?/What got you started in music? im 35 and my dad started me. I've been playing drums since i was 5 and guitar since i was 7.

How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? in this band, i was 34 but I'm the oldest hahahahhaa

What year was the band started? 2013

How old were you the first time you saw a liveband play? I've been seeing live bands since i was born.

How old were you at your first gig?/Best/worst gig you've played? my first gig was probably when i was 8 or 9. I've played a lot of fun shows. in this band, we played a good show with acXdc, but the best show so far was probably the connoisseur show.

What places will you be playing in in the immediate future? my house a few times in the next couple of months.

What songs are in your live set's? we usually play most of our songs.

Is it always the same set's live? not always. we switch up the order.

Have you had any bigger tours from start till now? we haven't toured yet.

How big crowds do you usually play for? anywhere from 2 to 200

What are the plans for the rest of the year? a new tape, and a small tour this summer. we have a lot of merch about to come out as well.

Where do you usually play? in the nw united states.

How do you get psyched up for a gig? we usually just are anyway hahahah

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? a lot of our influences are older, but there are some newer influential bands coming out in our genre, such as greedy mouth, deadpressure, cave state, snakes, machataso profano…and so many others.

What are your sources of inspiration? music, life, politics, and all around shitty stuff.

What's the first step when making a new song? someone usually has a riff or something, then it usually writes itself from there hahahaha

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? take our music, please. fuck people crying about their precious money.

What would be your dreams for the band? to be rich and famous. hahahahahaha no we just like to play with other rad bands.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? almost everything.

Have you been part of any other projects? yes i have been in a shit ton of bands. Poison Idea, Crime Machine, and Dead Conspiracy are my current bands besides Immoral Majority, but Crime Machine is on a temporary hiatus. Izzakate, Lizzy and i have a doom-jazz project hahahaha and we do all kinds of music from jamming to session work.

Have you been in any other bands? Butt Trumpet, Lowball, Only Zuul, Old Major, and a bunch of projects that never made it off the ground.

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? im a student, but I've been producing various styles of music for over 20 years. i also do studio/tour/session work and recording.

What would you do if there was no music?kill myself.

How important are your fans? i don't think we really have fans, but the people who watch us play or like our music are everything to us.

How often do you rehearse? twice a week

Where do you rehearse? my house.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? well i really like "off my meds" and "professional assholes"

What do you feel is the best liveband you've seen? thats hard. dropdead, master, toxic narcotic, greedy mouth….soooo many.

Do you have any webpages? Facebook, reverbnation, and bandcamp.

Any pearls of wisdom for all other bands out there? if you're faking it, everyone who matters, can tell.

How do you view the musicindurty of today? a joke.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? we smoke a lot of weed. hahaha

What Won't you spend money on? shitty shows. merch from douchy bands.

What do you feel a band/muscian should spend their money on? their merch, keeping their members fed and playing instruments that work. hahahahaha also buying merch from bands that are touring through, to help them get to the next city, because there will be a time when you need the same.

Would you like to add anything else?thanks for interviewing us and taking an interest in bands.
