interview with Nomada

What´s the name of your band? The name of our band is Nomada, which translates to Nomad in English.

How was the band formed? The band was formed by our frontman Oscar Rock, and went through several lineup changes before settling on a solid line up of Oscar Rock, Oscar Colosio, and Mario Sepulveda.

Can you tell about your band? We are 3 piece alternative latin roots rock band from Phoenix, Az. We have a wide range of musicial influences from red hot chili peppers, metallica, and caifanes just to name a few.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?

We are a band based from phoenix, AZ. But our roots come from Mexico. Oscar Rock (Lead Vocals, Guitar) from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico

Oscar Colosio (Drums) from Phoenix, AZ but raised in Magdalena, Sonora, Mexico

Mario Sepulveda (Basss, Vocals) from Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? The ambition of the band has always been to share the love and joy of our music. Travel the world, meet new people. Explore new music from all corners of the globe.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? Well our music is a combination of a ton of styles. We are three music lovers of all genres. We take from all these genres and attempt to mesh it all into one rad sounding musical clash. Genres such as cumbia, punk rock, metal, merengue, salsa, classic rock, reggae and ska are what we derive from to creat a unique sound.

Where was your first gig? Our first gig… hmmm….. that’s hard to remember. We’ve been playing non stop for over 4 years its hard to keep track of them all.

Where was the latest gig? Our latest gig was at Club Red theather in Mesa, AZ with our good friends and amazing band Bear Ghost as well as Un Chien and others.

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Our song writing process is the never the same. Sometimes our drummer could come up with a simple line and we write around that. most of the lyrics come from our singer Oscar Rock. The music is a collaboration of the 3.

Who has the best since of humor in the band? I believe Mario Sepulveda and Oscar Colosio have the best sense of humor in the band.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? I don’t think we ever collectively sat down and decided this was going to be our genre or our style. Over the years it kind of came to fruition on its own. We play what is most natural so we sound as genuine and unique as we possibly we can. Usually our song content comes from real life, stuff that is happening or has happened in our reality, but we do have our occasional funny or fun song in the mix.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We write our own material and also do cover. But prefer our own material.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Yes we do have an album called “Telaranas” as well as an unreleased EP called “Reaccion Cosmica”. Currently “Telaranas” is not online for sale, and we have very few printed copies left in our merch. We have been focusing our time to realease our newest collection of music called “Reaccion Cosmica”. We have started an indiegogo camapaign asking the public to help us reach our goal to realease our music. If you or any of your readers would like to contribute you may visit www.Nomadaaz.com/indiegogo

Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes we do have a youtube page which is https://www.youtube.com/user/NomadaAZ our current live video can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WBxSJAENv4

Best/worst gig you've played?

Hands down the best gig we played to date was That Damn Show in Mesa, AZ that also had bands like Bad Religion, Awolnation, Passafire, Fenix TX, Tiger Army and many many more…

As of worst theres a few, but they where all learning curves for us… so technically they weren’t bad. Cause we learned from them.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? Our next show is the Phx Ska Punk Bowling event on October 4th at Pub Rock Live w/ Passafire.

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? This is a toughie, we played with tons of amazing local and touring bands throughout the years. One of our favorite bands we saw live and where blown away with was Alien Ant Farm! One of our faves!

Is it always the same songs live? Currently we have been playing a similar set, we change it up here and there to spice things up.

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? We have had a few mini tours here and there, nothing too extensive or long. But our goal is to get our music everywhere so were getting to it…

What are the plans for the rest of the year? Our plans are to release our New EP (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/nomadas-sophmore-release-reaccion-cosmica), possibly a new music video, as well as some acoustic videos and to tour as much as possible.

What are your goals with your music? To get it to as many new ears as possible. Maybe transmit our music into space and meet new life that enjoys our music.

When did you decide to go all in for the music? It just kind of happened. I think we just knew this was for us, other than our families we don’t have much except our music. Its what brings us happiness at the end of the day and we hope to bring joy to others as well.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? I don’t think it matters, good music is timeless. We love it all.

What are your sources of inspiration? Our surroundings.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? I prefer to have the physical copy of an album, but I mean that’s just me I like looking at the artwork and seeing who participated in what. Ive always been surprised to find out that some of my favorite musicians know how to play some crazy instruments and recorded them with there band.

What would be your dreams for the band? Tour the world, be happy.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? We listen to everything, Metallica, Megadeth, Los Tigres Del Norte, Panteon Rococo, Alien Ant Farm. Sublime, cumbia, funk, whatever… as long as its pleasing to my ears.

Have you been part of any other projects? We all take part in other local projects here and there. We love music so much any opportunity we take to play we pretty much take it.

Have you been in any other bands? Our bass player is currently playing with Fayuca a local band from Phoenix making national headlines.

Whats the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? Our friend Nick is always making some funny art for us. If you follow our facebook at www.facebook.com/nomadaaz you can find some of his art. We share it all the time.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? Two songs we are loving right now is Calentura and Crazy Sarah two songs we recorded on our new EP “Reaccion Cosmica” (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/nomadas-sophmore-release-reaccion-cosmica)

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? I think as long as you are having fun and staying happy then that is all that really matters.

Do you have any webpages?

Yes we do! First and foremost is our indiegogo page https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/nomadas-sophmore-release-reaccion-cosmica we really do need as much help as possible!
