interview with Twintera

What´s the name of your band? Twintera

What made you call the band "Twintera"? We're so sorry but we don't remember that...or maybe we know what the real reason was but if we told you...we should kill you!

How was the band formed? We are just a bunch of friends, so we simply started to play when we were younger to have fun together with music.

It's cool to have a bass player, a guitar player a drummer and a singer as friends in the place where you live!

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band? We are all from Grezzana, a small town close to Verona (Italy). It's a really nice place, if you come here you could have a lot of fun and obviously listen to some rock'n'roll music in our rehearsal room! We are: Massimo Brunelli (vocals, he the new singer right now), Al Pia (lead and rhythm guitars), Simone Zanoni (lead and rhythm guitars), Stefano Fava (bass) and Massimo Bellamoli (drums).

What was the ambitions of the band when you started? When we started to play, we just wanted to have fun together and play some good music. It's what we want nowadays too, because we think this is the first rule to play with passion.

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? It's hard to explain, we think. We always try to create a mixture of different styles and sounds; so, if we have to define our music, we don't know how to do it in few simple words. Basically it's a melodic heavy metal, but everyone of us has his own musical influences so we try to put everything together and make something new.

Where was your first gig?/Where was the latest gig? The first gig was about ten years ago, in a little club in Grezzana. It was really fantastic to play some heavy metal for the first time in front of many people. We had a lot of fun!

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? The lyrics are usually written by the singer, but we previously choose vocal melodies together, without using words. On the other hand the music is composed by everyone from the beginning. Each member of the band gives his personal contribution to that in every single song.

Who has the best since of humor in the band? The horn player!

What's good/bad with the band? We all feel good when we play and compose together, and we have a great feeling with the new singer too. He takes completely part of Twintera now. So, everything is good on the stage and behind the stage.

What are your songs about? Our songs are about what we see around us everyday. They talk about particular facts that impress or shock us, sensations and emotions wefeel, both positive or negative. Most of the time we try to express something like that through some metaphors or analogies.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We compose our own songs, but during a show we play few covers too, just to make the gig more various and catchy.

Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?

Yes! “Lines” is our first album, released on November 2012, but our first “creation” was an EP called “DEMOtion”, produced in 2009. Actually we are working hard to compose new songs for the new album, and we are very excited for that.

Do you have any clips on YouTube?

Yes, we have a youtube channel. You can find a lot of videos there, but we haven't an official videoclip yet. We hope to make it soon for the new single of the next album.

How old are you?/What got you started in music? We are between 23 and 30 years old.

At what age did you start playing? We all began to play when we started going to school or before.

How old were you guys when you first stood on stage? We were 14 or 15 at the time.

What year was the band started? Maybe on 2002 or something like that.

Best/worst gig you've played? We can say that the gig at Masters of Rock in Czech Republic was one of the best ever, but we can add some other shows as the most memorable, like supporting Evergrey in 2010, or the gig in Munich on October 2013.

Where have you played from then till now? We played in many different club and festivals in the north of Italy, but we had also performed in Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? It's so hard to say, maybe it's impossible. Everyone of us has his own opinion about that, sorry.

Is it always the same songs live? No, we usually try to play a different set-list. It all depends on the different kind of audience and situation.

What has been the best/most promising gig so far? As we said, the gig at Masters of rock festival in Czech Republic was one of the best, we think.

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? We played in some fantastic venues and with great bands but we didn't have a big tour yet. We hope to do it asap.

How big crowds do you usually play for? It all depends on the venue, but we are always satisfied of the people who listen and support us.

What are the plans for the rest of the year? We want to keep on work hard to compose new songs and make some shows with our new singer.

How do you get psyched up for a gig? It's so simple: some beers, some friends, some loughs, and then...on stage!

What are your goals with your music? We always hope that our music could be listened by many people, so we try to play in much good venues as possible, especially out of the italian border.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Both kind of bands are good ways of inspiration.

What are your sources of inspiration? The answer to this question would be very different for everyone of us, but we can say we take our inspiration from many different kind of styles and sounds, also far away from heavy metal.

What's the first step when making a new song? The first step is to find a good riff, a drums groove, some vocals notes or something like that. We always search for a good little part that can be developed, and then everyone try to create a musical evolution based on that one.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? You go to a music shopand buy your own copy of an album, so you'll have this original copy forever. You can leaf through the booklet and you realize you have a real piece of music you love in your hands...this is amazing! But we understand nowadays music is changed, so we all have to comprehend the impossibility of impose the purchasing of an album as the only way to listen to the music. But, anyway, downloading or not...long live rock'n'roll!

What would be your dreams for the band? To headline some big festival, and be part of a great tours, or have a beer with Metallica: we don't know yet.

Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? We really like listening to different kinds of music and always discover something new. Hard rock, blues, funky, alternative rock, pop and many others styles of music from the past to the present...and metal music of course! Good music is everywhere.

What do you hold most dear? Our friendship, we think.Being friends in a band is a great advantage.

What would be your greatest fears for the future? We don't have thought about our greatest fear yet. Maybe it is to fall asleep the day we'll have to catch the plane going to headline Rock in Rio festival...we're joking, of course!

When you are on stage, what do you fear most then? Anything! We just think to have a good time and make enjoyable our performance to the audience. If you are afraid of somethingon the stage, you can't play as well as you can.

Have you been in any other bands? Most of us are still playing in other bands, even if they don’t necessarily belong to heavy metal. Probably because we really need to explore music from different points of view.

What do you work with outside of the band and the music? Despite music takes a big part of our life, one of us also plays also soccer, as any good Italian, one other likes rally.

What would you do if there was no music? We would have played curling of course.

How important are your fans? Essential!

Where do you rehearse? We rehearse once a week in a small cozy room set in a small town close to Verona, where we live.

Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment?

At the moment we go absolutely crazy for the last two songs written with Massimo, Twintera’s new singer.

They’re unfortunately untitled yet, but they will be certainly edited soon.

What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? Who experienced composition and performance of an own song at least once in his life, know such a great emotion would be. So, that’s all!

Do you have any webpages? Yes, of course. You can visit our daily updated official website, www.twintera.net, or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Describe your show, visually and musically Five friends who put all their hearts and spread great grit on the stage. A performance full of energy.

What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Loss of motivation.

What is best/worst with playing the clubs? Playing in a small club is cool and funny: people are really close to the stage and you can strongly feel emotions and excitation. So we can’t find any negative notes.

Tell us about upcoming gigs and why we should be at them?

We are going to perform at Officina degli Angeli (that means Angels’ Garage) a cool and renowned club close to Verona on September 27th.

First of all you can’t miss it because we’ll open for Crying Stell, one of the first Italian metal band. Than we’ll perform some new unrecorded songs for the first time. It will be a great night.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence Strong and catchy.

What is your favorite crappy instrument? Vuvuzela, of course.

What was one of the most quarrelsome times for you in the band? The quarrelsome times come when a band has to make an important decision, but all problems can be solved.

Whats your Pre-show ritual? This is an intimate question…ehm…one of us due to tell a indecent and, at the same time, creepy self (or not) sexual adventure. It’s terrible, we know!
