interview with Beneath The Storm

What´s the name of your band? Beneath The Storm
Can you tell about your band? It's a doom sludge, one man band.
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? It's very slow, heavy and scary. I would not recommend it to Britney Spears fans.
Who writes your songs? I do.
Who has the best sense of humor in the band? Steve.
What's good/bad with the band? A good thing about a one man project is the freedom. The creative freedom, but also the ability to work on your own time schedule. The bad thing is, there are no gigs.
What genre do you feel you are? Mainly doom sludge. The first album was funeral doom, i guess. The second was more sludgy and the third, which is just finished, is way more sludgier.
Why did you pick that particular style? Because i like it, it's what i listen to.
What are your songs about? Just dark stuff and about old horror movie themes. This new album is going to be about a movie called City Of The Dead.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? Own, but i would like to do covers. Maybe someday.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they? Temples Of Doom and Evil Reflection.
Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes, two videos. Silent Exhale and Oceans Of Sleep.
How old are you? 30.
At what age did you start playing? About 9 or 10.
How old were you when you first stood on stage? I think 14. It was with my first band and we played mostly Metallica and Sepultura covers.
Witch band is the best you´ve seen? It's very hard to say. Probably Tool.
When did you decide to go all in for the music? Never, this is not my job. This is just something i like to do.
What are your sources of inspiration? Probably the bands i listen to.
What's the first step when making a new song? I always start with guitar riffs.
Besides your own music, what genres and bands do you listen to? Mostly doom and sludge, like Noothgrush, Moloch, Fister, Eyehategod, Primitive Man, Isis (the band), Haggatha, Yob, Fistula, Electric Wizard, Oathbreaker, Rosetta, Sleep, Leechmilk, Meth Drinker, Rwake… fun stuff like that. I also like some of the other metal genres, or rock, or jazz, or whatever is good.
Have you been in any other bands? Yes, a lot. The latest were Obnounce, Ferocious Mind and a band that is in the making, which i don't want to talk about yet.
What do you work with outside of the band and the music? I work at a shop.
What would you do if there was no music? Kill myself.
How important are your fans? I am very underground, so i don't know if i can talk about fans. There are people who buy my music and i love them for it. Not because of the money, it's not much anyway, i just like the feeling that someone else can enjoy what i do. It's cool that you can share your music with people who like the same style of music as you.
How often do you rehearse? I don't. But there were times, when i rehearsed up to 10 hours a day. That's a long time ago.
Name 2 of your own songs you like at the moment? At The Hour Of 13 and The Witches' Sabbath, they are both songs from the new album.
Do you have any webpages? Just my Facebook band page and Bandcamp.
How do you view the music industry of today? I don't really care about it. I guess the worst thing is, that there probably won't be any more big rock bands like Zeppelin, or Guns or Nirvana, because the focus of the industry are teenage girls. The goal of the industry is to make money, music has nothing to do with it. That's why i'm not interested in it.
What advice would you like to give other bands? I'm in no position to do that. I don't know...
What are the biggest obstacles for a band? Life outside of the band. Just life, getting in way.
How would you describe your sound in one sentence? The soundtrack of hell.
