interview with Recidive

Have any of you played in other bands? Some members also played or are still playing in other punk bands : TDR, Karoshi, Misère Sociale Crew, La Mineure... Our drummer, Bat, have a solo noise/wave project, Le Seul Élément.

How is it that you started playing music? We said : Hey ! Let's play together in a punk hardcore band !

What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you?

Bat : drums

Ben : vocals

Fazz : squeal guitar, backing vocals

Ian : gravy guitar

Jacko : bass

Ages: from 28 to 35

Have you had other previous members? No, we're the perfect combo, yesterday, today, tomorrow.

Did you make music even when you were young? Yes, we all started playing music when we were teenagers.

Where are you from? Metz, France.

What year did the band form? September 2013.

What's your style of genre? Hardcore punk, fastcore.

What inspires you? Lot's of bands of many styles: punk, hardcore punk, thrash, crossover, oi!, grind, crust punk, metal, noise...

How often and where do you reherse? One time a week in our rehearsal spot.

How have you developed since you started with the music? We're better every day.

Do you have other interests of work outside the band? We don't make music for money, so most of us have a job. We have a lot of other interest : painting, drawing, movies, family, beer, wine, smoked tofu...

Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? No, we wan't to stay independent.We want to choose where and when we play, the bands we play with...

Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? Our first album, "Alive", was produced by a french label, "l’ascenseur émotionnel" (CD), great people, great job.

What made you decide to make this music? We made it for fun.

What are your songs about? Friendship, depression, hope, drugs, sex, human perversion, rock'n roll, rotten politicians...

Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? We compose and write all together.

Do you start with the music or the lyrics? Music.

Do you compose in a certain inviroment? In our rehearsal spot with a six pack.

Have you done any covers live? Not yet !

What language do you sing in? English.

What are the least and most people to attend one of your gigs? Least : about 30 people. Most : I don't know, maybe 200...

What ages are most of your concert attendants? From 20 to 50.

Do you always play the same songs live, or do you vary? We are a young band, so we don'thave enough songs to vary for the moment.

Do you have a regular place you play live often? No. And we don't want, we are not a DJ.

What was your first gig like? At "La Crustygrange", with Lust for Death, Columbo, and Diskose. It was awesome, great bands, nice people...Good memories !

What was your latest gig? In june at the "Ugly Hole Fest" in Belgium, with Zeus, Ovo and Leper house.

Where have you played live this year?

Rupt/Moselle (FR) @ La Crustygrange with Lust for Death, Columbo, and Diskose.

Volmerange-les-Mines (FR) @ No man's land, with Mudweiser, Goodbye Diana and local guest

Dijon (FR) @ Les Tanneries, "Maloka Fest", with Boss Capone, Tulamort, Miss Ratched and other cool bands.

Metz (FR, hometown) @ La Face Cachée (record store), release party of our firt album, "Alive" + private gig in the evening with a bunch of cool bands from our town, notably Le Singe Blanc.

Nassogne (BE), "Ugly Hole Fest" , with Zeus, Ovo and Leper House.

Where do you plan to gig the comming year? Everywhere we can!

When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We just have our album "Alive" (CD, 5€), And a T-shirt with the artwork of the album cover (drawn by the great Piet du Congo, http://pietducongo.com/).

Where can people buy your merchandise? Contact us, we ship worlwide.

What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records now a days? No problem with that : download music to listen it, and if you like a band and want to support it, just buy a record or some merch. Our album is available for free or donation on Bandcamp.

How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? It was crap before, now it's dying crap !

What do you think of my work? Bloggers are really importants for the DIY/undergroung scene. We discovered lots of great bands thanks to blogs like yours.

Do you have any role models or idols? No idols, no gods, no masters.

Is it easier to find inspiration from older bands, or bands that are more active today? Both. There is a lot of grat bands yesterday and nowadays...

What have been your biggest obstacles? Work and kids !

What advice would you give other bands or artists? Never give up what you like and get laid as long as you can.

How do you get psyched for a gig? We drink a couple of beers.

Do you have any new material? Not yet, but we gonna record new songs in few weeks.
