interview with Creation of Decay
Have any of you played in other bands? Goat: I played drums at “Jesusgirl”, a punk rock band, for a couple of years.
How is it that you started playing music? Cornix: Inspired by my older brother and many metal musicians I got interested in playing guitar. Thunder: I always had the thought of being member of a metal band. And when the other members asked me to play bass in our band, I agreed. Goat: Some of my friends started playing guitar and bass. But they had no drummer. So I learned playing the drums.
What are your names? / Who plays what? / How old are you? Guitar: Cornix, born in 1989 Bass: Thunder, born in 1989 Drums & Vocals: Goat, born in 1981
Have you had other previous members? No
Did you make music even when you were young? Cornix: I started playing guitar at the age of 14. Thunder: Unfortunately not. Goat: I bought my first drum set at the age of 16 and started learning how to play it.
Where are you from? We are from Vienna, Austria.
What year did the band form? Cornix and Goat founded a band called “Wolfens Herzen” in the year 2005. In the year 2007 we decided not to use German names for the band and our songs. So we renamed the band to “Ravenous”. Seven years later, 2014, we renamed our band again because we discovered that the name “Ravenous” is used by other musicians. Our current and final name is: “Creation of Decay”.
What's your style of genre? Dark/death/black metal.
What inspires you? Mother earth, nature and hate.
How often and where do you reherse? Every second week.
How have you developed since you started with the music? First we learned how to play our instruments. Then we learned how to compose songs. With each song we create, we try to improve our technical skills. That’s also the reason, why we adapt older songs time after time.
Do you have other interests of work outside the band? No, we three are only playing at “Creation of Decay” and have no interests to join other bands.
Are you looking for a booking agency, and what are your thoughts around that? No, not at the moment.
Are you looking for a label, and what are your thoughts around that? No, not at the moment.
What made you decide to make this music? Music is a way to self-fulfilment and how we can express our thoughts and emotions. It gives us the possibility to live out our aggressions and hate.
What are your songs about? They are about hate, the dark side of mankind, misanthropy and nature. There is no place for political contents.
Who does the composing and writes the lyrics? Composing of the instrumental parts is done by the entire band led by Goat. Lyrics are mainly composed by Thunder and some of them by Cornix.
Do you start with the music or the lyrics? We definitely always start with the music.
Do you compose in a certain environment? Not necessarily. In our daily life routines, the one or other idea raises in our mind. Alone or in our rehearse room we try them out, modify them or discard them. Our songs are arrangements of different ideas.
What language do you sing in? Our lyrics are written in English.
When did you start to sell merchandise, and what do you have for sale? We do not sell merchandise so far. But we can imagine that is is fun to create t-shirts and stuff like that. We want to do so one time.
Where can people buy your merchandise? Not at the moment.
What do you think about people downloading music instead of buying records nowadays? Steeling music is, like steeling anything else, crime.
How do you think the music industry have changed because of this? A new channel of selling music has been created (internet download).
What do you think of my work? We think it’s a good thing you are doing. You give bands the possibility to present themselves.
How do you think and know that this interview will help you in the music business? We hope, that some people read about us and listen to our songs posted on youtoube.
Do you have any role models or idols? There are many bands in the genre of black and death metal which inspire us.
Why do you think that they exist? Because they create interesting music which touches the people.
What have been your biggest obstacles? There have not been any obstacles so far.
What advice would you give other bands or artists? We are not in the position to give any advice to other bands or artists, except: do what you want and not what you think that will be successful.
Do you have any new material? We are currently working on our sixth song.
