interview with ICHOR

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?
Eric - vocals
Daniel- Guitar
Jo - Guitar
Dirk - Drums
Norb - Bass
What was the ambitions of the band when you started? We just wanted to make play fast death metal without compromise. Soon we discovered that it works best for us if we write brutal, fast yet melodic death metal
Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? ICHOR is brutal death metal from the depths of the sea. we try to work influences of the deep and dark sea and it's myterious
and dangerous creatures and work them into cataclysmic death metal.
Where was the latest gig?
The last two gigs were the Tel Aviv Deathfest and the Molfest in
heerhugowaard.
Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? we generally write the songs together. someone has a riff or an ideo for a meldie and we just jam on it and see where it takes us. sometimes somebody writes a song at home brings it to rehearsal and we just take it, if it's good of course. but most of the songs are writen as a collective at rehearsals. lyrics are written entirely by eric, the singer.
Who has the best since of humor in the band? I'd say that everyone has a great sense of humour and we laugh a lot when we're at rehearsals or on tour (except when norb the bassist tells a joke, then, usually, nobody laughs)
What's good/bad with the band?/What genre do you feel you are? i guess you could describe it as death metal. just death metal.
Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? it just came to us. we want to do what feels good and natural with us and somehow we ended up playing the music that we play right now. the latest album 'Depths' is a conceptalbum. it tells the story of the world after the impact of a comet, the following destruction and the splitting of society and New civiliations arise in from the dark depths of the sea. it was different to work on a whole album as a whole, a continuing story.
Do you write your own material or mainly covers? we only play our own material on our shows. we didn't think about playing a cover song yet, maybe in the future. we'll see.
Have you made any albums?/If yes what are they?
Ichor has released three albums
The siege in 2008
Benthic horizon in 2010
and Depths in 2014
Do you have any clips on YouTube? Yes, last year we shot a video with our bros from ambitious.films for   the song RA'IROA  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z49EiFtkcng
then there are further two clips from DEPTHS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFf9o21JmHY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wruV45fgFcw
and we have some older clips from the albums before
At what age did you start playing? We're all around 30 years of age. We all started making music at an   early age. the usual way, starting with classical guitar, needing something heavier after a while and eventually ending up disturbing the neighbors with loud distorted e-guitar-noises.
What year was the band started? ICHOR started in the year 2008.
Where have you played from then till now? We have played almost every country in europe except skandinavia and some easterneuropean countries. we played a lot in the netherlands, belgium, switzerland. the people there are crazy. last year we played the tel aviv deathfest in israel.
Witch band is the best you´ve seen? One of the best livebands is Behemoth from Poland. They're always   tight as fuck and they have amazing light shows. Very atmospheric but brutal nonetheless.
Is it always the same songs live? We try to mix up our playlist from time to time. of course we want to play songs from all the three albums. depending on the playtime we get we change the setlist, kick one or two song or play more songs. it depends on the gig.
What has been the best/most promising gig so far? playing the toxoplasmose-festival in switzerland was pretty sick. crazy crowd, great organisation and delicious food.
What are the plans for the rest of the year? We started writing our 4th album and we hope that we can release it sometime in 2016. until then we planned to play a few festivals in europe or go on a tour promoting DEPTHS
What are your sources of inspiration? I would say that our main influences are polish death metal bands   like behemoth, hate or decapitated and some old school american death metal like cannibal corpse, suffocation and morbid angel. everyone in ichor has kind of a unique taste in music, not only metal but throughout all kinds of genres and everyone brings new ideas to rehearsals. but we don't see music as our only source of inspiration.
the deep sea for example has a huge impact on our work, the secrets that lure deep down in the unknown,it's cataclysmic force which destroys everything in it's way
What do you fear most then? Well it always sucks if something beyond your control goes horribly wrong. technical problems, trafficjams on the way to the venue and stuff like that.
Have you been part of any other projects? yes. there's a grindcoreband called massacre the waste land which features ichor-members. eric and norb collaborated with stellar master elite on their forthcoming album.
What would you do if there was no music? Probably hanging around somewhere drinking.
What drives a band that isn't all that famous and renowned to try to make a living on their music and to keep playing? It's all about passion. As long as your heart and soul burns for it, it doesn't matter if you earn money through music. Seeing your ideas come to live and being able to share it with people like yourself is reward enough.
Do you have any webpages? We have a facebookpage and an 'old-school' webpage www.depthsofhorror.com
