What´s the name of your band? METALINDA

How was the band formed? After the dissolution of bands HALUŠKY and REGATA, I (PETER SÁMEL), being a seventeen-year-old guitarist, decided to go my own way. I started my own project called METALINDA with a clear artistic direction for this new formation which included my new tracks.

Can you tell about your band? I have always been drawn to music, as a six-year-old I enrolled in an Art School and completed eight years of violin and two years of drums and double bass lessons. It was then I realised that music fills an imaginary gap in me to the extent I fell asleep with it and woke up still listening. All this packed energy resulted in the band METALINDA with its songs presenting our vision of the rock genre. Our listeners were eager to consume what we created as there was a definite lack of rock music at that time. Our story has been marked by rapid growth and success resembling of the speed of a space shuttle, eventually carrying on for more than three decades into the unknown world of Slovak showbiz.

Where are all band members from?/Who does what in the band?

Our band formation kept changing for its whole duration, it is a long distance journey and not everyone can put up with the pressures of it. Our longest members are FERO GAŠPARÍK and me.

All of us live in Slovakia:

Could you explain your music to someone that haven't heard you? It is difficult to talk about our music as everyone perceives it in a different way. Therefore, I woud definitely recommend you to listen to it.

Where was your first gig? Our first gig was in Banská Bystrica. The day before our singer got stabbed, the guitarist ended up signing instead with huge success. The venue was completely packed and there were still loads of people outside.

Where was the latest gig? We haven’t had our last gig yet (I hope not :D)

Who writes your songs?/Who writes the music who writes lyrics? Vačšinou hudbu aj text píšem ja Peter Sámel ale spolupracujeme s viacerími textármi. I write most of the music and lyrics but we work with other people as well.

Who has the best since of humor in the band? We all have a sense of humour, we try to have a laugh at all times so we don’t turn blue.

What genre do you feel you are? I would say we are rock. I wouldn’t want to be specific about other subgenres.

Why did you pick that particular style?/What are your songs about? Our songs are about life and our style was crafted by God.

Do you write your own material or mainly covers? We exclusively write our own songs. No covers. We’re not very fond of them.

What year was the band started? 1983-1985

Best/worst gig you've played?  Each gig is unique in its own way, they’re always different. All our gigs are the best.

What places will you be playing in in the imidate future? We’re planning on touring on the 30^th anniversary of our band.

Witch band is the best you´ve seen? Our best mates on the music scene are Tublatanka and Elán.

Have you had any bigger tours from start to now? We played at various festivals in the US and Chicago but most of the time we play in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

How big crowds do you usually play for? Scorpions, Apocalyptica, Nightwish

What are the plans for the rest of the year? New songs, great gigs but mostly good health for all of us.

Where do you usually play? People mostly listen to us on Youtube.

How do you get psyched up for a gig? We try to relax to get into that good mood which enables us to put in 155% effort.

Is it easier to get your inspiration from older bands or from bands more modern? Definitely from older bands. I grew up listening to Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, and TOTO.

What are your sources of inspiration? Holidays by the sea, adventure, travelling, photography, filming.

What's the first step when making a new song? The connection between the sky and the earth.

How do you feel about the downloading of music instead of buying albums? Illegal downloads kill music, after all, people don’t appreciate it when they simply download it.

What would be your dreams for the band? To play with AC/DC on the same stage.

What would be your greatest fears for the future? Our problems don’t worry us, we’re keeping that rock ‘n’ roll tradition.

What would you do if there was no music? I can’t imagine living withput music.

How important are your fans? We respect every single one of our our fans.

What's the funniest/most memorable thing a fan has done for you? We recorded a song with Jozo Raz who is one of the best signers in Slovakia, a kind of a legend here. It’s called: Sky stop the rain.

How often do you rehearse? Before our gigs.

Where do you rehearse? In our own studio.
